Wanna own the actual Wonder Wheel?

I haven't been here in a while, maybe this has been covered, but surely the fact that Coney Island is going to be changed very dramatically (turned into a family wonderland) after this summer has been on the board somewhere.
Astroland is going to be destroyed, save for a few landmarks, like The Cyclone.
But in the newspaper the other day, the owner of Astroland said she is going to auction off all the rest of the rides! Imagine owning the Wonder Wheel itself, not a piece, but the whole thing lol!
The article gave no clue of when or how this auction will take place, I'll notice it in the papers sometime and report back on what the Wonder Wheel actually sold for.
I just *really* hope the great Warriors mural survives the new "family" Coney Island. That would suck if this was the last summer we can see it!

I hope a rich Warrior fan buys all the rides, and then recreates Coney Island somewhere else.
Thanks for the info Steven.

The Wonder Wheel is a New York landmark so should be safe.
The only other things that are safe are the cyclone as you stated and the Parachute jump.

You're right, the article didn't state The Wonder Wheel so I thoght that was going to go down the tubes, but I found some info elsewhere that did indeed state The Wonder Wheel would be preserved.
Here's the article I saw with a good pic of the Wheel lol...
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2007/06 ... to_au.html
But I'm not celebrating too much tho, because I've seen how these things work. Depending on where it ends up after it is moved, I can see the Wonder Wheel gathering rust, until finally someone with some juice decides he wants the land and it gets destroyed anyhows, mainly due to lack on interest. I remember when the parachute jump was just about to be destroyed a whiles back, but then people started making a big noise about it, so it eventually was safe. I think The Wonder Wheel is the most likely of the three not to survive too long, I've never really heard the same sentimentality as for the Jump and the Cyclone.
But on a different note, for anyone who is around here and knows the charm of Coney Island, this is very bad news all around because Coney is going to turn upper-middle to high class with all the new housing, and it's gonna be a family spot and totally sterile and gentrified. All the traditional vendors and attractions will be gone as they will either be pushed out, or unable to afford to stay. They're even gonna build a huge new roller coaster. If anyone wants to see any of the Coney like in the movie, this is the absolute LAST summer you will be able to, so get to NYC if you possible can.
I just REALLY hope that mural stays. It may be deemed too "violent" with the gang violence and all.

It's a quote from Oxygen's entry to the fan-fic competition. I love the story and had to adopt the line.

I think most people here would feel that one of the iconic images of the movie The Warriors, The Wonder Wheel, and it's preservation and future are indeed a pretty decent topic, even if one can't buy it like the other Coney Rides, as it has been declared historic.
I am very happy to see, however, that you foudn this topic interesting enough to a) enter it, b) read it, and c) actually take the time to post in it. Your effort is greatly appreciated, feel free to visit any other posts I may do, as well as all the other members of this board. We all appreciate your time and effort.

Having looked through your topics/posts regarding being in a gang at school is fun and many other classics i don't think you can comment too much.
Also just so you know i will ban you for a long time if you are rude to me or anyone else;)
