Building a vest
Re: Building a vest
The CC WIZARD I could trim the border on the rocker, but not the canvas. It would fall apart. I think I am going to use the CC and trim it. Thanks guys.

Re: Building a vest
I'd go with the ccWizard rocker. I think its curvature fits better and the shade of the stitching matches the feathers of the warbird.

hey man you should try to sell this on ebay you might get enough money to buy a custom one
i have a reason, so there fore i am not a rebel without a cause
Re: Building a vest
A custom one? This IS a custom one. Custom by ME. Why would I want to sell this (when it took me a while to do) to pay for the vests that are out there that I think are incorrect?

L1, since you were in the biz (or anyone with experience, really) - if i want to darken the beige under the piping, do I want leather stain, or leather dye?

Re: Building a vest
You can get those small DIY shoe dye kits from your nearest cobbler. They should do the trick.

Re: Building a vest
What I would do, is get the darkest tea you can find (that won't cost an arm and a leg) and make the darkest vat of dark tea. Then I would dip and leave the piping in the tea. It won't change the color of the piping or the vest and will change the lining under the piping. Lipton Tea and most store bought teas from Grocery stores here in the US won't really do the trick. I would go to a specialty store and ask for their strongest, darkest tea. You could put the whole vest in and alter the rocker and war-bird and might give it that real vintage look. I wouldn't use any type of dye, as that WILL alter the leather.4nik8 wrote:L1, since you were in the biz (or anyone with experience, really) - if i want to darken the beige under the piping, do I want leather stain, or leather dye?

Re: Building a vest
I'm assuming you don't want to do any disassembling of the vest, so you're best off using a small artist brush and filling in each individual diamond with a dye. Wood dye might work. I know it doesn't wash out of t-shirts.

Re: Building a vest
I read this wrong, but I thought it was a canvas or cotton lining underneath. It is another leather piping? If it is leather, I would use a stain. This way you get the desired color. Then I would use 9th's method.4nik8 wrote:L1, since you were in the biz (or anyone with experience, really) - if i want to darken the beige under the piping, do I want leather stain, or leather dye?

I used leather glue that i got a MICHAEL'S ART SUPPY STORE here in the US. I did little bits at a time for the piping. Once it sets, IT SETS!!!
