even though you were only joking, after i tea-stained, i did indeed oil the patches, along with the leather, for several weeks

I didn't want them to have any brightness whatsoever, and it seems to have worked!

first, i'm going to attempt to dye the tan, as it's a lot cheaper, and labor intensive!

Are you dying the whole vest or just the tan in the piping? What color are you going to dye it?

one of these days, I'll find a reputable leather place, bring in the 2011 calendar (which has some nice closeups) and see what they recommend

no - apparently, only 9D has a camera where a bright flash makes things darker!!

The best picture of the piping i've seen is the close up of the pocket on the golden closet site, it made me think that it's the same piece of leather piping folded back on itself, so you have the lighter back part of the leather facing forward showing through the diamonds on the front.

When i first got the vest, it was so stiff that it would actually stand up on its own, and it looked like a football (that weird grain pattern)

now, it's all soft and "drapey"

that's it exactly - don't be fooled by the synthetics - make sure it says 100% Pure Neatsfoot oil

And don't just apply it - massage it in like yer working on a Roman Centurion (or something)!
