Re: Moonrunners jacket
And even some of the Corvette one's have different patches and colours. Like the silver jim Watkins one you posted doesn't have the chequered flags on the pocket.LIER ONE wrote:Why? Re: Moonrunners jacket
The only corvette badge/patch on the moonrunners jacket is the crossed flags over the breast pocket. The vertical name bar on the sleeve has been removed and only leaves a thinner black line.

Thats the patch i meant, so it's def on the moonrunners jackets?Ninth Delegate wrote:The only corvette badge/patch on the moonrunners jacket is the crossed flags over the breast pocket.
Re: Moonrunners jacket
So pretty much any of the jackets with the black trim can be used. It is easy to add the other patches, ribbon and embroidery. It would be easier if we were the only ones looking for these, but seems they are big with gear heads too. Also, if you look @ the jacket here:Ninth Delegate wrote:The only corvette badge/patch on the moonrunners jacket is the crossed flags over the breast pocket. It looks to not have a thick band down the arm, but a thin black strip. This might have been the jacket used as there would only be adding the patch. Maybe these jackets cost less as they did not have a brand or band on them and were therefore more cost effective for a small budget movie.

Turnbull gbr: Yes, it's possible to make out the crosed flag shap patch during the turnstile scene in the opening credits.
Lier 1: Totally agree. 2 members of the Moon runners wear jackets that look identical to the picture of the one with the yellow armband in that link. They look lower quality than the one in the current ebay auction.

Re: Moonrunners jacket
I got the below email from the maker of the jackets JIM WATKINS:
Hi *&*^%
This is Jim Watkins. I designed and manufactured the WATKINS PERFORMANCE JACKET at the Watkins Design Center in Los Angeles during the years 1976-2,000. As the style grew in popularity I had to spend entire time at work and home raising money to fill the next order. We designed for the Kennedy Space Center, Johnson Space Center and Space Camp. When the Smithsonian Institute in Washington selected our NASA child's Space Suit to run in their annual 8-million membership catalog mailing we had never handled orders in the millions of dollars so we were literally buried in orders and our agreement with Smithsonian calling for a pro-forma invoice basis payments became too much for the Smithsonian to pre pay so they had a large child apparel firm knock off our design to fill orders. That is when I decided to pull the plug on the whole thing. I thought making that kind of money would be great but instead in became a nightmare. When the factory coating silver on the nylon taffeta was so over whelmed that the silver wasn't cooked as long as it should to cure it, that the silver and gold began to flake off from minor wear and that was the final straw.
Now there are original jacket patterns and embroidery computer control tapes left that ran the computerized embroidery machines. The control computer tapes for most of the special small order jackets like the 'WARRIORS' 1979 is probably in there storage someplace but I wouldn't know where to start to find it.
I have just a couple of jackets in my size left now. We are still getting interest in the "EGO WEAR" we developed for other products but when you grab a kite by the tail and it takes off it take you with it, wherever the wind blows it. I am not ready to grab that tail again. Besides, no matter how much money you make it is never enough to fill the expansion plans. Grow or die.
Thanks for your interest.
Jim Watkins

Mr. Watkins also sent me pics of the 1st ad for the jackets and it is the one I posted without the logo. He knows about (and remembers) the order for our movie, so I think this confirms the jackets used.

Re: Moonrunners jacket
So basically, the older the jacket, the better the quality will be?

Re: Moonrunners jacket
I think he is saying that when the SMITHSONIAN took his design to another supplier and they made cheap copies, he stopped making jackets all together. I think (from other emails) that the jackets we are looking for are high quality. The ads he sent me (for when he was first getting off the ground) are himself and his wife wearing the jacket without the logos and just had the yellow and black bands. I think those are the ones used in the film, as those were probably cheaper (no logo) and easier to get.Ninth Delegate wrote:So basically, the older the jacket, the better the quality will be?
