Re: Who is against the 2008 remake?
Unfortunately at the moment Hollywood is so bereft of ideas that they are having to take classic/cult films and either "remake" them or "re-imagine" them. Classic examples of these would be The Italian Job, Get Carter, The Pink Panther, The Wicker Man, the classic Assault on Precinct 13, the list goes on.
The main shame of it is that some of these films in their own right aren't actually that bad, but taken as "remakes" they are pure tripe. I can't honestly see that a remake of The Warriors would buck this trend and IMHO they should leave well alone and stop spoiling the fan's memories.

From what I've been able to read, it seems the only connection to the original is going to be the title and the overall storyline. I've resided to the fact that Hollywood is going to remake every movie eventually. Some of them aren't that bad. Some are really good. But, this seems to just be an attempt to get the film's fan base to the theaters.
They could have just as easily made this a remake of "The Wanderers", since they are throwing the original script out anway, but that movie doesn't have the same following.

I didn't watch the Star Wars new movies because I didn't want it to ruin my sweet memories of the original movies and characters. I'm still happy I didn't watch them because there is no place in my Star Wars memories for characters like Jar Jar Binks.
How does this apply to the Warriros? Well, if this new movie really sucked and the warriors logo was the same, then if you had a Warriors jacket and wore it on Halloween say, then you would just look like one of the characters from this lame new Warriors movie. It could tarnish your memory of the first one and take away a bit of that long passed magic and mystery from 1979. There is a reason they use the term "cult" movie. I'm still not sure whether I like the remake idea or not, as the jury is still out.

I would say it's a safe bet that they are going to redo everything and probably spend a bunch of money on a design for the Warriors that will sell merchandise.streetcred wrote: Well, if this new movie really sucked and the warriors logo was the same, then if you had a Warriors jacket and wore it on Halloween say, then you would just look like one of the characters from this lame new Warriors movie.

Re: Who is against the 2008 remake?
i have read that it will not be a remake. The only similarities will be the main gang will be The warriors, and the leader of the biggest gang gets killed. I sure hope this movie is half as good as the original.
Re: Who is against the 2008 remake?
The issue that bugs a lot of people is that they are using the established name of "The Warriors" in a new film in an obvious attempt to cash in on an established brand. They could have done it without directly referencing the '79 movie at all and then it's "just another gang movie".Hardcore Soldier wrote: i have read that it will not be a remake. I'm sure many younger people didn't know that "I Am Legend" was a remake of "The Omega Man", which was a remake of "The Last Man on Earth." They were all based on the 1954 novel "I Am Legend". In fact, one of the main differences between Legend and Omega is that Legend takes place in New York and Omega in Los Angeles. Both Smith and Heston have the same character name. So, this is exactly the overall differences between The Warriors and the potential remake, yet it was decided not to use the same title.

Im sure that everbody here will go see it. Just to see how bad it really is or the the rare possiability that it actually turns out good. Either way I will go see it. I hope they wont do to the Warriors what they did to the Gone in Sixty Seconds Movie. The sequel was terrible, but a box office hit. They will most likely throw in a bunch of cheap digital explosions. Maybe they could get AJAX to make a cameo

Who is against the 2008 remake? - I'm not. It's good to see movie after 30 years. Yes, it's stupid to remove same actors, gangs...... But I wouldn't like new Warriors. New gangs ok.
Re: Who is against the 2008 remake?
I'm aganst it...but if they do come out with it I'd watch it, just to see, nothing personal. I hate that they aren't even making an ajax, a snow, a swan, or a Luther! Its so Dumb! :^o

Re: Who is against the 2008 remake?
From what I have read the only thing the 2 movies will have in common is the title. Which to me seems like they are using the Warriors brand for instant recognition. If the movie is bad it will still get the box office from everyone who loved the first movie.
If there are no gangs from the first movie, no characters from the first movie, why do they need to possibly tarnish something that so many including myself hold so dear? When I mention The Warriors, people know what I'm talking about. I would hate for my favorite movie of all time to now be known as The Warriors 1979.
