My Next Fan Fic: A Preview
I figured that, since the forums are closed off, I might as well tantalize those denizens of the Fan Fic section with a preview of my next fic in the Easy Aces universe. It will compliment the other three, and I will start writing as soon as I'm done the map. Anyway...
The Preview
In the fledgling nation of Quebec, war is brewing. Both in the government and on the streets. With the crime rate at record highs, the streets are no longer the safe place they used to be. Within the government, huge rifts have formed. The current government is fairly neutral in affairs, but hard right wing factions wish to topple the government and institute a purely French state. Besides them are those who wish for Quebec to be part of Canada, those who want it to be a religious state, and everything in between. Anti-Anglophone violence is common, terrorism is the norm, and the entire state is collapsing in on itself.
Sitting in the middle of all this is Henri, a normal seventeen year old boy of French heritage just trying to ignore all that is going on around him. But after an anti-Anglophone gang kills his best friend for flying a Canadian flag, he is thrust into the centre of everything. Revenge becomes his mission, second only to protecting his friends from the violence surrounding them. He finds both of these with the formation of Les Gardiens de Gaspé (The Gaspé Avenue Guardians). Thus, he embarks on a journey of epic proportions. A journey that will take him from the streets of Montreal, to the backstreets of Quebec City, to within his own mind.
This is... An Island in Chaos: Montreal 2045.
*Author's note: The only things in this story that will be french are the names of places, people, and for the most part gangs. Other than that, the language will be a rarity. I barely speak it and I know that most people here don't either.

I was planning to do a universal idea myself but it would take place in Chicago.

Heh, I was planning an Easy Aces story to go there too. I assume you're referring to the universe Trixter started? Mine is totally seperate in any case. I prefer to go it alone.Baby Bear wrote: I was planning to do a universal idea myself but it would take place in Chicago.

Re: My Next Fan Fic: A Preview
Nah it wasn't going to be in the Trixter universe. It was going to be another gang. I haven't made up a name for them yet but I leaning towards doing something similar to real gangs like Vice Lords, Gangster Disciples, Black Stone Rangers and Black Panthers.

Now thats what I amtalking about. Its good to have another aspect of the eacy aces universe back. I like the point of view, from thw Quebecers. Its an interestinf topic you brought up, about the governement being Neutral. So, basically what you are saying, is that if it wasn't for these chaotic factions, the country has a pretty decent government? This sounds interesting. By the way, GR99, do you think Quebec should be independent or part of Canada? Or are you Neural. Don't worry, I am not a politicalnut, I am just curious. Thanks.

Re: My Next Fan Fic: A Preview
I'm not sure where I sit on the issue. On one hand, Quebec's independence would tear our country apart, have wide ranging economic effects, and would require us to rewrite everything in our government to account for us having lost the second most populous province. On the other hand, they are so different that they could be their own country even now, since there's such a huge difference in the culture and language.
I try to stay neutral on the issue, but I am writing this story because I honestly think that something like this would happen if Quebec gained independence. There would be a bunch of different factions all squabbling over the Anglophone minority, and the October Crisis would happen all over again. I figure that these stories are a good way to express my views on the world if they fit in. Sort of an allegory if you will.

Yeah, I see what tou mean on staying neutral, I don't blame you. So what your saying is that these expressive storys are like "what if" situations. Very interesting. I actually didn't know Anglophones were the minority. I thought the majority spoke English. Thanks for the info.

Quebec is actually the only province where English isn't an official language. At last count, the division was:
French speakers: 82.0%
English speakers: 7.9%
Others: 10.1% (Italian 5.2%, Spanish 2.3%, Arabic 2.9%, and others)
Thanks Wikipedia!

Oh, wait scrach my last post. I forgot the main focus was on just Quebec, and not the rest of Canada. Thats why I called the Anglophones majoritys. Sorry, since its just Quebec, I see why their minoritys. My fault lol.
