Phillip Seymour Hoffman is my hero! If you liked him in 'Happiness', you should
definitely check out 'Love Liza'. Brilliant stuff. (although I agree that the other
main character in 'Happiness' is quite disturbing indeed.)

The Phillip Seymour Hoffman part of the film was really funny and sick, but the other characters part of the film was just sick, i like black comedies but that wasn't even funny.

Just watched Wizards as recommended by Space Toaster in her top ten films, DJ Muggs from Cypress Hill has sampled a lot of sounds and voices from here as i was watching it i noticed loads.
Also the last battle was mostly made up of running zulu's from the film Zulu only shaded in black with funny helmets added.

Just watched another great film from 1979, Over The Edge. They didn't release it till 81 because they thought it would cause riots same as The Warriors.

You just threw up a flag I can really salute there buddy. One of my all time favorites. That is
one of the most realistic (except possibly for the crazy stuff at the end) films of kids back
then there is. I was in jr. highschool at the time, and I can say that it is very accurate.

This is a film with a major cult following as well, not unlike "The Warriors". If you like it alot
there are forums for it as well. It sounds like you enjoyed your vist to "New Granada".
Cheers!

PS. Another pretty good film about kids form that era, set in LA (where I am from) is
"Foxes". It stars Jodie Foster and Scott Baio. It is not as good as "Over the Edge",
but it has it's moments. Oh, and it also stars Cherrie Curry of the legendary teen
chick band "The Runaways".

Matt Dillon makes his big-screen debut in director Jonathan Kaplan's bleak portrait of adolescence in the late 1970s...

I DEFINATELY ENJOYED MY JOURNEY
Thats two you've added to my list now Love Lisa and Foxes, I've got another one aswell thats kinda the same theme think its from the early eighties called Suburbia, which i also thought was great, a very young Flea from the red hot chilli peppers is in it, if you've not seen it check it out

"Suburbia" is a really good film. It reminds me of my high school days. Those are alot
of real kids from the LA punk scene back then. Also it features Jack Grisham and TSOL
and Casey Royer and DI (of "The Adolescents" fame) at real gigs. It's a pretty decent
drama/documentary on the LA hardcore punk scene. If you look at the graffitti in the
"TR" house and it says "LADS", that was a true Hollywood punk gang that use to
hang out and do battle in the slam pits. LADS = Los Angeles Death Squad.

The dialogue is awful, especially after all these years, and the acting from the mostly amateur cast is laughable,

uh-oh...

but Suburbia is very interesting visually and it features some of the most outstanding punk music from the time and place.

FINE!
