Just curious to hear from you Brits why you think "Green Street Hooligans" is
garbage. I did see the movie, and I thought it was decent, but then again I
know next to nothing about European( in particular here English ) "football
hooliganism". Was it pure, over-sensationalized BS? I'd like to hear your
opinions.

As for GSH's 2, I took one look at that and laughed. It looks way stupid.

like i said i thought like gree street was a fair enough hollywood movie work a day stuff. but you know its another glamourising and inaccurate type movie

but the joke is the brits make a worse job of it with football factory which has some proper laughable stuff in it like dream sequences that are visions of the future... and of course danny dyaaaa

Anybody seen a film called Breaking Away? It's about bicycle racing and also i think it's got some gang fighting between greasers and ??? preppies? Anyway it's a great film from the 70's. Damn why are all great films from 1979? It's on at my local showroom cinema tonight so i'm going to watch it.
If you havn't seen it, get it watched it's great.

I have vague memories of breaking away.  Back in the early 80's, when my prehistoric country only had 3 tv channels (yes, it was THAT bad), Breaking away was split up into parts and made into a weekly tv show.  I remember Rossini's Barber os seville theme music and the racing bike being named something like asperados?  Its been over 20 years since I last saw it.

Yes, it does vear off towards the sensationalist side.  Football hooligans are a dark blot in our history.  Most are not even true fans of the sport.  They just use football and national pride as an excuse to cause as much trouble as possible and to hide the fact they are low inteligent racist thugs.  There is no honor between them and glamourising them through the media of film just brings more shame on our country.

Thanks for your replies about GSH's. That all shed some light on the subject.

As for "Breaking Away", it was the "Townies" I believe were the preppy college
kids, and then the "Cutters" were the 4 best friends who were kinda like high-
school drop-outs. I don't know if you wanna call a couple of run-ins between the
rich kids and the more working-class kids "gang warfare" tho. It's not like the
"Greasers" and the "Soc's" in "the Outsiders" really. The movie was more a vehicle for
the popularity of 10-speed bike racing at the time.

And yes, 1979 was a remarkable year for film:

Apocalypse Now ( best film ever )
The Warriors
The Wanderers
Quadrophenia
Over the Edge

I've not really had much time to be watching many films at the moment, i've been hammering the overtime at work, i was hoping i'd have done 100 by now so i could slow down when the summer arrives.
Just bought Fantastic Mr. Fox, it looks immense, i'm gonna watch that later.

R.I.P. Corey Haim. Damn he was in some of my favorite movies as a kid, LICENSE TO DRIVE, LOST BOYS, ROLLER BOYS, LUCAS, DREAM MACHINE. Both my cousins are gonna be in mourning, i'm sure they've still got posters of him.

Just watched The Road, i liked it, if your a bit depressed don't watch it, it might send you over the edge.

Finally got THE WARRIORS watched and on the list, i'm way behind schedule, too busy moving house, watching south park and being the laziest person in England, Anybody who doesn't mind subtitled films you have to watch a film called Tony Manero, it's about a guy who's obsessed with Tony Manero from Saturday night fever, who is also a serial killer! GREAT COMBINATION :D
