Chek this out:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eijUlCEA ... ed&search=

This samurai movie was made back in 1961, I think.  Maybe walter hill stole the idea of swan throwing the hidden knife into Luthers arm from this flick or maybe great minds think alike.  In the DVD extras, I think it is David Harris who mentions the baseball furies scene as being like a samurai movie, but now I know more than just that scene was inspired by Japanese film makers.

The whole thing looks familiar - it's a blatant reference.

The Warriors referenced it in 1979, not the other way round!

Wow it is similar maybe walter hill liked them type of films with the swords and decided he'd do it with bats

and the knife thing was just a way to stop luther shooting swan

In the Director's Cut version, Walter Hill did say that he wanted the Furies fight to be reminiscent of a sword battle, Samurai style.  Who knows what other references he may have slipped in there...?

Most definitly Walter Hill got it from that movie. Alot of directors and screen writers get their ideas from japenese movies. Reservoir Dogs is an exact American copy of City of Fire, not to mention in almost all of Tarintino's films, the plots are based on old Samurai movies.

good find, they do look very similar. I think both directors had the same idea.
