I still have to see this movie, although I have my doubts.  As a connoisseur of 80's cartoons I have been let down time and again by movies, revised t.v shows, and real life adaptations (let us not forget the He-Man disaster).  I know that the cgi will be spectacular, and there will the the regulars: Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz, but it won't be quite the same for me.  Only yesterday I saw a commercial for GM using the cgi transformers to sell their cars.  And I don't think Soundwave made it into the movie (did he?), if he did you can bet he's not a walkman with Rumble and Ravage and the gang coming out of his chest.  I'm not so sure of any of these attempts to revive all my old t.v show memories for the 21st. century.  I even saw that they were remaking the Chipmunks into realistic cgi and making them rappers, oh vey!

I saw the movie on July 2nd and enjoyed it, but wasn't blown away.

I'm not convinced that the designs of the robot modes had to look so busy.  The TF Alternators toy line proves that you can update the TF look and still maintain the traditional , blocky feel from the original series.

Plot: Disappointing because they don't fully take advantage of the real word setting - the plot could just as easily been delivered via animation.  The plot should have had the depth that the big budget and production talent meritted.

Action: Plenty of action sequences that are meticulously rendered.  Unfortunately, the stuff you want to see most (robots going at it hand to hand) is filmed so close with cuts so quick, you can't tell what is happening.  It just looks like big twisted balls of metal rolling around.

This is a great matinee movie - I don't know if I could recommend seeing it for full price.

Yeah I saw this myself on the 4th.  I must say, that the wait, sine 1984, until now was well worth it.  They even brought back the legendary voice of Peter Cullen to do Optimus Prime.  You can see at the end that  there might be room for part 2, you know with starscream surviving and all.  Its just a shame that Jazz died, I was hoping he would just get injured like BumbleBee.  The action was so crazy that it practically gave me a seizure lol.  Anyway, it really brought the legendary cartoon to life, and expanded the imagination of transformers.  With the exception of Jazz dieing (the only black transformer, played by Darurs Mccrary) it was a film that was more than meets the eye.

Speaking of Darius Mccray, he was the only black transformer for the autobots, there was one for the Decepticons

This is an accurate review.  Especially about the action cuts being difficult to fully see.

I saw this movie on-line from a bootleg (shh) Although there was some obvious product placement that turned Bumblebee from a VW into a Camero (?) and there was no Spike character, I thought it was pretty cool.  I found it to be quite "Independence Day-ish", especially the beginning, but I enjoyed it none the less.  I also thought Optimus Prime's voice was pretty close to the original.  And can somebody answer this for me?  I have to ask the same as Harley.  Soundwave was my favourite Decepticon, yet I couldn't tell which one was him, if any.  I thought he might have been the police car that fights Bumblebee (by the way, I hope I'm not spoiling this for anyone) but he wasn't a car, he was a ghetto blaster.  But that was just the Decepticon intelligence scout.  was Soundwave even in it?  Overall, a pretty cool movie, even though like I said, I saw it online, I don't think the big screen was big enough for the Autobot on Decepticon battles.

Most of the people I know who have seen it thought it was a good movie, but none of those people were Transformers fans. I want to know how it was received by people who had a love for Transformers, and were worried (like me) that Michael Bay's vision would be an insult.

Yeah, yeah, yeah - saw it the other day - it is just too good to miss in the cinema!
SEE IT NOW.
Of course it has the obligatory American movie cheese stuff, but the transformations, action, story more then make up for it.
Must see it again.
