New York City Transit Strike

Post by Marlboroprojects »

Well folks, it's happened. The greatest city in the world has been brought to a standstill by a bunch of greedy, misinformed retards being led by the mother of all blowhards into believing that their contract (which is a better deal than 98% of American workers receive) is the modern equivilent of being forced out into the fields to pick cotton.

Now, before anyone jumps down my throat with all the "well, they should fight for everything they are entitled to." arguments......... let's take a look at some of the benefits that these "workers" currently enjoy:

Free health insurance for their entire family for life. - Yes, even after they retire they will still be getting health insurance for the rest of their lives.

Pension of 1/2 pay after they retire after 25 years. Current age that they retire is 55. The city wants to raise this to 62 for future hires, and the union went nuts. That's right............I'm shelling out big money to take a cab back and forth to work today because the transit workers are worried about someone who isn't even hired yet having to retire at age 62 instead of 55. Keep in mind this change does not effect anyone who is currently employed.

Free transportation on all city trains and buses, at any time (yes, even if you're not going to or from work, or it's your day off) for life. Yes folks, as the rest of us have to worry about fare hikes to pay for this new contract that the union seeks, transit workers never have to worry about shelling out a dime.

Average base pay of between 40,000 - 60,000 dollars a year. The way these people are ranting and raving, you'd think they were getting minimum wage. Oh, and the requirements for these jobs.......no formal education or experience needed. So it's not like you had to spend 8 years in college to get these jobs.

As you can see from my above rant, I'm very, very upset right now. Oh, and all these people in violation of the Taylor Law by going on strike in the first place.........please, you can rest assured that it will be worked into any agreement made that all fines and penalties will be dropped. The only ones who will suffer in the end is us

indeed i feel your pain. i hope you weren't one of the thousands i watched walking across the brooklyn bridge...its was like 22 degrees out this morning!
i've made the same arguements as you when i discussed this with my friends, some are on the MTA side, these are the people who go through life thinking the world owes them something. then there are those against the MTA, these are the people who have actuallt held shitty jobs and realize that having a city job is actually better than most jobs out there.
all BS aside, this all boils down to one thing and its always the same thing since the beginning of time....GREED! :x
people can't help to but to want more out of life, if their neighbor has something, they have to have it too. whether its a fancy car, a big house, plasma TV, whatever, people are just greedy and its been like that since the first caveman beat his fellow caveman over the head with a bone and said, this cave is mine! which the other caveman replied, well if this is your cave, then thats my cave....and thats my stream too!
and thus, the vicious cycle was started and will forever continue...thats until people wise up but i've been waiting for that to happen for 30 years already and so far theres little to no hope. :?

Am thinking the million $ a day fine may make some headway-Even the Union can't pay that forever-and even with appeals-it is still going to be stiff--that and the union bigwigs being hauled into court on criminal charges.
I hope for all your sakes it gets settled and dealt with soon.
Best of luck.

the strike is over....well its over but it ain't over.
about an hour ago, the TWU decided they would go back to work while both the parties are talking....something tells me it had something to do with the million dollar a day fine.

Yeah, the MTA is saying that it will take about 20 hours to get everything running back up to snuff.

Am I the only one that realizes this strike accomplished absolutely NOTHING except for disrupting the lives of all my fellow New Yorkers? :?

The TWU is gonna wind up with a worse deal than the one they wound up turning down before they went on strike. The city is still going ahead with litigation to enable them to go after each individual worker that went on strike. And the TWU is still gonna have to come up with millions in fines as soon as their appeals run out.

It looks like the union president Mr. Toussaint will be looking for a new job soon if you ask me.

Mr. Toussaint off the 59th street bridge, hit the tramway  ,and land in the ocean
