do they still have the dot thing in england?

Post by R3mbrandtfan »

my dad lived in england while in the navy in the 80's and said around 11 P.M. the tv would say time to go to bed and all shows would turn off and a little dot would appear! Do they still do that?

It's 2006 dude and our TV runs 24hours a day.
It never really used to tell you to go to bed or anything like that. TV used to finish at 11pm and we only had 2 channels, the last programme would finish then they would play the national anthem then the picture used to close down going into a black dot. Hope this clears things up for you.

A year ago I did see that little test screen at about 4:30am on BBC (you know the one with the kid and a chalk board) it was really weird to see that after so many years especially as we usually go to new 24 after hours.......BBC2 just goes to ceffax after hours and ITV does this really poor information service when they haven't got anything to show.

I remember that test screen it was quite mad it was some little boy standing with a chalkboard and all the colours behind him wasn't it?
I remember visiting Denmark in the late 80s and Tv there didn't start until about 5 in the evening. It's probably different now like but it felt strange at the time.
