Any alternative comics fans out there?

I just bought issue 1 of THE WINTERMEN today, and I got the new BATTLE POPE the other day.

Anybody want to talk about them or something?

Never really heard of them

But i was always a fan of The Punisher & Dark Horse's Comics/Graphic Novels (ie: the violent batmans, predator series, all those Vs. Comics )

I still old school,I loved The Crow and Sin City,but to me

was a great read,along with JLA vs AVENGERS
Just my opinion..

I've only ever been into Marvel and have 1000's of the things! Most from when i was about 12 - 15.

I found a cool Captain America from 1979 set in Coney Island the other day! A few pictures of the cyclone and parachute jump but, no Warriors.

I thought it was wrong when they started the new numbering of the comics and like Tantive i like old school. The late 70's start of the 80's was the best.

I was also huge into Marvel for while and have lots of boxes of em. Later I got into the Fantagraphics line of comics like Hate and Eightball.

I have the Tankgirl series. I really loved the artwork until it went more mainstream then they completely changed the style, then soon after that they ended the story.

The movie, unfaithful as it was story-wise, was great fun, too.

Anyways, Tales from the Bully Pulpit. Only one comic so far, hoping for a second, but it was pure comic bliss for me.

Also, when dealing with manga that isn't stupidly overexposed (like DBZ), it's bound to get pretty obscure, so Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (Beautiful art style, really). And even though it's been insanely popular in Japan since the 80s, Fist of the North Star. Also, Berserk, but that's gaining popularity over here. And finally Hajime no Ippo. Best part is that they can all be found online, due to their obscurity or lack of proper publishing.

Everyone who tries to bring Jojo has pulled out, probably for fear of getting their asses sued (all the characters are named after bands, albums, songs, etc. Someone else is trying to bring part of it over here now, a big company. We'll see how this goes), Fist of the North Star... just... kinda faded out of U.S. publication. Berserk... I've never actually checked out the hard copies. And finally, Hajime no Ippo is unknown even among many manga fans.

And that is the unnecessary history lesson.

Hey but the girl who did tankgirl now does the animation for the Gorillaz videos, so it's good in the end.

Yeah Punisher MAX rocks my socks. Nick Fury is the best with "supporting character" roles in other heroes' series.

tankgirl is great!!! the movie is a little dissapointing though(apart from lori petty playing tank girl,thats good casting). her quotes are endless though- "what time is it,i dont wanna miss baywatch!" and "i gots 4 words for you-brush your teeth!!".

my favourite comic is deadpool.

yeah it was good, then the movie came out and it became mainstream... pity.

And then it faded into complete obscurity again.

My main problem with mainstream, is that when something becomes mainstream, they don't know when to call it quits.

I feel this way about the WWF.  I loved wrestling when Afa and Sika held the Tag Belts.  Bob Backlund was the Champion and the Magnificent Muraco held the Intercontinental Belt.  Then Hulk Hogan came along and damned the whole thing to hell.  But as far as comics, I own several hundred  Superman titles.

Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, in addition to being very mainstreamand therefore not fitting in, sucks.

I'm very fond of Lobo and Transmetropolitan. Lobo was awesome, especially because for a little bit back there, it was kinda mainstream, but it felt like it was pandering to a cult audience.
