New York City..Good Place To Live?

I am almost done with college, and I am looking at places to live. NYC has always seemed like an amazing place to start a life especially at a young age. So I was wanting to live in Brooklyn I think. How much generally are apartments there? Is the crime as bad as everyone says? Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

crime is not bad, if you want to be close to manhattan you should look in williamsburg, brooklyn heights, cobble hill, dumbo, or park slope. expect to pay at least $1600 if you plan to live alone

When i was a kid, there were huge sprawling sections of Brooklyn into which I'd never gone, nor could I go

I was in one such neighborhood over the weekend, Red Hook

Formerly, it was nothing but crime, drugs, and gangs, but is now a lovely little community, comprised of young urban couples

This is the new nature of Brookyln, as Manhattan rents are so out of control, people have begun moving back to "the Boroughs"

I tried, but i was a bit short-sighted and was, therefore, unable to see the truth, because I was fighting for ten square feet of ground...

But i was focusing on the present continuous tense of the verb (i.e. its "ing" form)
