Comics!

Post by prozium »

Lately I've been quite into comics. I used to have a whole bunch of Star Wars comics, Shadows Of The Empire, The Last Command as well as a few newer ones like Twilight (a very good read btw). As well as a decent amount of older, swedish translated Spiderman.

Then for some reason my intrest for comics went down. It was when I started hearing about V for Vendetta, the movie though, and how it was based on a comic that I started getting intrested in comics again. I bought the V For Vendetta graphic novel (the collection of all the comics) and I'm nearly done with it. Though it's in Swedish it's still awesome, V is a great character and I can't wait to see the movie.

Another great comic I got was The Punisher: Red Xmas. Has all the great qualities of a Punisher comic and is a great, special edition read with some great fights and funny comic reliefs too. I found myself laughing out loud on 2 accounts. Not that it's some comedy comic, very brutal and the final fight between The Punisher and Suspira is awesome.

What are your favorite comics?

I got a lovely stash of comics, as comics is my thing  ;). Mainly zombie ones! I got a complete 'Dawn of the Dead' collection as well as 'Shaun of the Dead', some 'Dead World', 'Escape of the Living Dead', 'Strange Killings', 'On the Far Side with Dead Folk' and a bunch of others which have the word 'Dead' in the title! I got some Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Jason Vs. Leatherface, Zorro (#0!), Street Fighter, The X-Files (Manga #1), X-Men (of course), Conan, a TON of Viz (copy of the first ever issue included!), I could go on forever, but you get the picture.  :)

Oooh I love zomie comics I'll have to keep a lookout for these. Which is the best?

I recently read Wolverine & The Punisher and was pretty dissapointed. We have two really badass characters who never really use their badassness. Apparently The Punisher died, was ressurected by angels and given angelic powers, which really didn't work for me.

It had an interesting story going for it but I overall I expected more from a graphic novel feauturing two awesome superheroes.

One comic I think has great potential though is Violent Messiah. GREAT comic. I recently read numver 1 and it has me hooked, as soon as I can I'm going to get the collection. The anti-hero type guy is called Pain and looks plain awesome, like a mix of Venom and Agent Smith, if that makes any sense.

I recently read the Smoke TPB. it was good for a while, but around the seocnd half it really seems like the guy just beat Metal gear Solid 2 and 3 right before writing it. Kinda lame, bad ending.

 'The Walking Dead - Series 1 - Days Gone By' by Tony Moore. Got this at the weekend and Jesus Christ, this is the best zombie comic book I've ever read (and I've read plenty). I knew after the first three pages that this was gonna be big. And it was. I loved it. Sure, it's got blood, gore, guns and nasty rotten corpses but it focuses more on how those that are still living would have to survive in a world where everything they knew is no longer. Good characters and lovely artwork too. Prozium, if you're gonna go buy a zombie book, make it this one. Trust me.  ;)

oooh sounds good, I'll have to keep a lookout, though unfortunately I've checked all 3 comic book chops in town and haven't really found anything all that good in terms of zombie comics =/
