I am just curious, what other roles have you seen Michael Beck aka Swan in and what did you think?
I have almost everything he has out including tv appearances. I always love to see him. His Levon Lundy in Houston Knights is a major favorite of mine.
His Swan role had alot more edge than his next as Sonny in Xandu.
But I am going to recommend a role/movie that he did actually before Warriors called Madman. He has the same edgy type determination he was showing as Swan--and he is really wonderful in the role---it was his portrayal of the damaged soldier in Madman, that caught Hill's attention and got him the role of Swan.
But if anyone has ever seen him in Rearview Mirror, or Dead Run--He really shines in those, even if he is the bad guy. And he does be baad in them.

Houston Knights was a great series with the two Michaels..Beck and Pare. I really thought it would take off but lasted only one season. Unfortunatley have not seen him in much else except some TV appearances...Murder, She Wrote, Walker Texas Ranger, etc.. I'll have to check out Madman though it doesn't look like it is readily available on VHS or DVD.

I have never seen it on dvd, but eBay and Amazon both have it VHS.
It also stars F Murry Abraham, and Sigourney Weaver.
And the UK version has a different name, when I remember it I will put it up here.

Hey Ranchgal, I think it's Camp 702 or something like that. I recall seeing a copy on ebay months ago while looking for Warrior items.

I've posted this before but, i think Micheal Beck sums up his feelings about Xanadu best with this...
"The Warriors opened a lot of doors for me in the film industry which Xanadu then slammed shut"

Jamie I was just trying to recall the name of the UK version for Ranchgirl. I saw it years ago but like you, wasn't impressed. Nice seeing Sigourney Weaver in her pre-Alien days though.

I watched Xanadu today and was instantly shocked when I read that it came out only 1 year after The warriors....it was very surprising because he looked so much older in Xanadu than he did in The Warriors. I think it was because of his hair....and also because he had a shirt!
I thought it was a cute movie....but then again, I have been known to think odd things!

I thought it was cute too---maybe alittle too fluffy for him to do right after Warriors---but I still watch it occasionally, and do enjoy it!!! He always said that after the Warriors was over he wanted to do a broadway musical---but this is as close as he got---and they didn't let him sing!! bummer.
About Madman--JP--I can't say the story was fun---it was so very dark---but I really loved the acting in it----the portrayal of that damaged soldier---MB did an outstanding job---as did F Murry Abraham as the slack off hippie wanna be--and when the ending came, and you saw how much one person's vision affected so many different lives and viewpoint---I have to say---I really thought everyone espl. Michael Beck did an outstanding job of acting!!
IT would have been alittle nicer to have a few more LIGHTER Type moments though I do have to admit---it got alittle heavy sometimes.
And it was Walter Hill's seeing that portrayal that convinced him that MB could dig deep enough to capture the Swan character--and he was right!!
