Starting a comic.

Post by Love me! LOVE DOPEFISH! »

Hey all, I'm new here, but I have something to say anything. I'm starting a comic, based on River City Ransom EX. For those not in the know, River City Ransom EX is a remake most excellent of the NES classic gang warfare game "River City Ransom". Anyways, I posted it on these boards for a few reasons.

Is there anything you people think I should really include? I mean, Warriors inspiration in it are already present, prominent, and plentiful in it, I need your input. Well, don't quite need, [Cyrus] but I'd like to see... what you'd like to see.[/Cyrus]

One thing I want to do is include cameos, because I like you crazy armies of the net already, even if I barely know you. All the gangs in the comic are accounted for already, but I could probably slip in a few cameos to other places. (Good example would be, say, a Mestizo96 CD playing in the Eagles' lounge)

If you also want, I can post the gang list and info.

I know it's a bit self-promo, but I just thought you crazy fellas would be interested, maybe.

I kinda remember playing that game, all the guys looked the same but had different color shirts, I loved whipping the guys with the chain. I'd like to see some graffiti tagging of some of the members from the forum on the walls. How does that sound?

I like the graffitti idea, though I was thinking that some of the forum member names would make great little joke names for posters, products, adverts, and radio broadcasts and the like, but I think Graffitti would both be easiest to incorporate (Aren't too many shops prominent in the plans so far, and some scenes with junk [CD cases, boxes, cans, bottles, stuff like that] that would be easy to incorporate names into]) I mean, say, Ranchgal brand whiskey, anyone? :P

Also, Harley, you'll be glad to know there's more gangs and variations of people to thwomp, and not only is the chain back, it has its own technique (Chain Chump) and another chain weapon (Long chain - My NEW favorite weapon [old was chain]. Also, ability to recruit a gang and bust heads as a group, and the ability to customize your character (when you unlock it).

But back to the comic at hand. Yeah, I think for the most part, graffitti will be the most useful for names. "Tantive7" sounds either like an electronica group or a name tagged on a wall, for example. But if I do come up with alternatives, I'd rather not say them just yet.

But I still totally wanna incorporate a Mestizo69 CD somewhere in it. :P That'd be totally rockin'.

I also was thinking of having some talk about how some gangs/people have defeated other gangs, that were minor Warrior gangs (Ie: people talking, noting things like "The Eagles just trashed the Electric Eliminators down at Waterfront!" or some guy giving the news "The Plagues drove the High Hats out of town!" to Slick, etc.)

Yeah, as I said before, I'm open to ideas.

Why Thank you ,that is quite flattering, and I am at a loss for words, and I am happy that you would not only mention me but incorporate me in something creative that you are doing, It's good to see that I am even going "ALL CITY" in this forum

if anyone wants the gang descriptions, just say it. I typed up the list for Harley, and I'll post it here if any o' you blokes want.

I'd also like to say, that, Cowboy, if you have some ideas, you can give me some, and I'll see if there's any I can use. I need something to give some good breaks to the standard gang fighting, and possibly even ideas for the fights themselves, even though I have quite a few already.

By that do you mean breaks in the fighting itself or between the fights? Like what the gang would do until the come across another fight?

Maybe you could have them go somewhere a gang usually doesn't go to start some trouble for amusement, like a coffehouse, a library, or a gallery, they could mock and harrass the patrons and stare down the security guards (the kind that don't carry guns). One of those scenes that are suppose to make the viewer feel uncomfortable because of the way the character is asserting themselves.

Here is the gang list and info.

Generic Dudes:
A closely-knit gang of weaklings. For example, their true name is the Dudes, but the "Generic" part was added for trueness. They may be weak, but they'll still fight if given proper incentive. The leader is Conan, who is a bit of a coward but a surprisingly good leader. Uniform is a light blue shirt.

Frat Boys:
Complete party animals, drunkards, and dickheads. They prefer to rush into battle armed with little provocation, and retreat just as fast. Has a few quite tough fighters, but overall just jerks who don't exactly have fair fights. Noteably, they also tend to drive around in their preferred vehicles: An old pick-up truck and a really nice car. Leader is Chaz, whose dad totally owns
a dealership. Also, Chaz isn't too much of a fighter; he got to his power by being elected by the previous leader, who is in jail. Uniform is a pink jacket.

Dragons:
A cheap-fighting Asian gang who are also somewhat wimps. They prefer any cheap, underhand tactics they can use to get the upper-hand. Favorite technique is throwing rocks at a distance (good throwing arms) before getting up close and personal. The leader is Kunio, who's actually a decent fighter, but still is cheap. Uniform is an orange Japanese school uniform, usually modified.

Jocks:
As the name would suggest, athletic dickheads. Very strong and overpowering, and don't retreat. They're not smart enough to use underhanded tactics, but they don't need to. However, they will use weapons if they really need to, preferrably baseball bats. The leader is Dolph, a completely die hard fighter that will fight until he's down, which it takes him a long time to get him down. The uniform is a bright green jersey, many times with at least one shoulder pad.

Rockers:
Wild, unruly, unkempt, crude, and psychotic, they rush headfirst into battle, armed, and don't give up until the show's over for them. Their preferred weapons are usually very crude as well. They just like causing chaos, really. Leader is Jimmy, a short but wild fighter with hair just as wild, and always wears headphones. Uniform is a red T-shirt with the black and yellow logo on the back.

Rejects:
A group of people rejected from other gangs and society as a whole, for varying reasons. A relatively diverse group, they know that they're the only family they're gonna get, so they band together tightly, and rely on teamwork. They're noteably skilled with blades, and each carry around at least one, though they prefer the standard blunt weapon affair. Leader is Griff, who at first glance is an emo, but a powerful fighter who feeds his emotions into his fighting, causing a vicious style. Uniform is a light blue button-down.

Home Boys:
Primarily black gang, a tough bunch who are very vicious, protective of their turf, and agressive. If you so much as step on their turf, you better be ready to fight or run, because they don't take kindly to anyone soldiering through their turf. Leader is the Big G, a somewhat short and pretty fat fighter, who packs one hell of a punch. Uniform is a yellow vest.

Eagles:
Rough, ratty-looking, and mysterious, they generally have less activity, but are still a great threat to any enemies. They all fight with chains, and carry long chains into fights. They prefer to hang out, although they still don't want anyone soldiering through their turf. Leader is Kief, a guy who looks like he walked right out of a post-apocalyptic movie. Kief is a calm-headed leader who has had training with the bullwhip, and can take on most anybody with the chain. Uniform is a light blue-green jacket with the Eagles logo sown on the back.

Mob:
Opposite of the eagles, almost. Neat, tidy, cold, practical, calculating, but still mysterious. They prefer close-range fighting over chains, and value the abundance of industrial supplies lying around their turf. They're protective of their turf, and seem to be running some business besides being a gang. Leader is Rocko, a tough fighter who can take damage like, well, a rock. Noticeably they also have the enforcer, Moose, on their side, who is renowned messenger, delivery boy, and bodyguard, as he has to get through many gangs to get to his goal, usually. The uniform is a grey sports or business jacket.

Locals:
Skilled fighters and martial artists, among the oldest and most powerful gangs in the city. The only weaponry they'll use is brass knuckles, if anything, with the exception of a very few who have learned martial arts or very powerful fighting methods with certain weapons. Most mix martial arts with a brutal street-fighting style. Leader is Angel, a tall, skinny, and lanky
hispanic fighter who is renowned for his precise, fast, and powerful kicks. The uniform is a dark orange gi.

Internationals:
A crew of fighters from all around the world, because, hey, fighting is the international language. They use a very diverse selection of styles. The leader is Ivan, a very tall, intimidating, and muscle-bound fighter. Overall nobody knows much about the gang besides they seem to be perpetual allies with the Cowboys. The uniform is a dark green T-shirt.

Cowboys:
Mainly unarmed crew of very western roots, and a rowdy, rough-skinned bunch at that. They can take as much as they can give, which is quite a lot. Leader is Tex, who is a good friend of Ivan's, and very skilled with the polearm, so he fights with a long piece of pipe. The uniform is a blue vest.

Plague:
Ruthless, powerful, aggressive. More powerful than the Locals, the Internationals and the Cowboys, the Plagues defend their turf and defend it well, armed to the teeth, and ready to pounce at a moment's notice. Mysterious, as anyone who really knows about them are either in the gang or didn't live to tell the tale, or at least got their ass beaten so bad they wouldn't ever wanna tell it. They are lead by the zombies, a gang of four vicious fighters, but the second-in-command is Otis, a backwater powerhouse jock who protects his gym like it was his child.

Gamers:
Nerd group, pretty much. Still somewhat formidable foes, they make themselves scarce, mostly because they're better at video games than fighting. The leader is Akira, who wears roller blades into a fight, and is known to have some cheap tactics. The uniform is a red jacket, often long, meaning not exactly good for gang fights.

Entrees:
Not even much of a gang. Fat, hungry, and weak rich kids who carry around unusual weapons and hire people to do their dirty work. They run away surprisingly fast considering their type. Leader is Frank, who is smart at knowing who to hire, how to hire them, and how to make them keep their word, as well as find good food. The uniform is a gold lame (lah-may, not lame. I couldn't get an accent on this keyboard) jacket.
