Mockingbird Cinema (Birmingham UK) - Jan 26 2019

Post by warriorswannabe »

The Mockingbird Cinema in Birmingham have now booked a January 26th screening to commemorate the 40th anniversary.

Mockingbird Cinema, Mockingbird House, The Custard Factory, Gibb Street, Birmingham B9 4AA

Email - lee@mockingbirdcinema.com
Web - http://www.mockingbirdcinema.com

Apparently the place is hard to find (Gibb Street is a cul de sac but the open end is clearly road signed) - so I volunteer to dress as Cleon and stand on the main road (Digbeth high street) to direct pedestrians down the alleyway to it (or direct cars around the corner to the open end of Gibb Street etc).

About halfway between the city centre and the Birmingham City football ground if you are travelling.

Yes, it's easy to walk by it and not realise. It took my taxi driver 4 attempts. There's an open space behind it with some good graffiti. I think it gets used as a car park. Look for a passage with a couple of sculptures. It leads to an open square, with the cinema on the right. It's only small, but has a good retro feel to it.

Street View route to the cinema;

By foot;

I plan to stand here dressed as Cleon to direct people down the alley - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Gib ... 4d-1.88394

(You can "walk" down that alley online - use your mouse etc - the cinema is the second or 3rd building on the left - the red/purple building)

By car;

That L shaped road comes out here and cars can enter part of the way in, junction of Heath Mill Lane and Gibb Street - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Gib ... 4d-1.88394

(Again you can "walk" down that L shaped road online - use your mouse etc - this time the cinema will be on the right - the red/purple building)

Car access MIGHT be blocked as that is a nightclub area on weekend nights and Al Qaeda etc have made deliberate but general threats of car bombs etc against nightclubs - there have never actually been any but the threat has led to Heath Mill Lane being closed to traffic when the nightclubs along it are open. Ironically though that increased security has decreased the level of gun violence by the gangs in the nightclubs!

Yes that exact junction featured in that Gun Number 6 show on BBC 2 recently - that shooting did occur there but more than a decade ago though

CHANGED DATE: Mockingbird Cinema (Birmingham UK) - Feb 9

Post by warriorswannabe »

Sorry about this, the new date is now confirmed as February 9th (not January 26th) - https://ticketing.eu.veezi.com/sessions ... p0khfs56mw

2 showings - 19.30 and 21.30

I will usher for both showings but will only sit through the first one.

Sorry for the confusion, a wrong date in the first message I got from them apparently

The last buses in Brum set off from the nearby city centre at midnight or a few minutes earlier - https://nxbus.co.uk/

The last trains are about 11.15pm
