Widescreen Or Full frame?
Widescreen Or Full frame?
Well I thought I asked about this. Seems the industry is thinking about going full frame for all their movies starting in 2009. I myself prefer widescreen.

Re: Widescreen Or Full frame?
If you think that is a dilemma
Try this one on for size..
DVD or HDDVD??
DVD or BLURAY??

DVD or DVDCD ??

All of these formats are just another reason
to pay more for something you already have??
Well, that being the case,Let me go out and get
The Warriors,in all the formats,I just spoke about!!

Re: Widescreen Or Full frame?
for me...certain movies i like to watch in widescreen and some in full picture.
take jaws for instance that movie needs to watched in full frame its how it was meant to be so thats how it stays on my tv.others deserve wide screen i mean they just need the wide screen, like HEAT or films of that nature they just work so much better in widescreen.
personally i think its down to the movie more than the person that dictates the format!

I don't get it, whats the difference?

Re: Widescreen Or Full frame?
whats the differnce???
your kidding right??
widescreen (total frame shot -letterboxed- what was shot from the cameras like it was intended)
ALL FILMS SHOULD BE RELEASED THIS WAY..AVOID FULL FRAME (your not getting the complete picture or frame as intended for Theaters, etc)
full frame_ (original film cropped to fit square TV size) you ever notice "this film has been modified to fit your screen" before a VHS or PAN & SCAN format in other words the film is reduced from left to right to fit a small (square) TV while films shot of course are rectangular.
2:35 ASPECT RATION (retangular..big time)
1:85 ASPECT RATION (retangular but not as much as 2:35)
WARRIORS is a 1:85 ASPECT RATIO
good example watch a JOHN CARPENTER FILM like "the FOG" or "ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK" first watch the lame-ass FULL FRAME version for a few minutes..then pop in the correct WIDESCREEN and you will be suprised how much TV or FULL FRAME has been ripping you off (or brainwashing) you..and you only get half the picture as originally put to theaters...
i thought people were finally "awake' now that the DVD is the format these days..
VHS and full frame have been a thing of the past..
anyone who thinks "WIDESCREEN' is distracting or thr film got cut-off at the top and bottom..its the other way around my fellow boppers!! just say no to FULL FRAME!!!
compare and you shall see..only now your gonna want to throw away all your lame FULL FRAME and do whats best, if your into films for what they really are!!!!

Re: Widescreen Or Full frame?
just to update..and maybe understand better..
ASPECT RATIO is the size of the film itself..
so TV size is 1:33 ASPECT RATIO or in some cases like "NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD" which was that size
But major ACTION/ADVENTURE,most HORROR and SCI-FI (like STAR WARS films) are 2:35 ASPECT RATIO
and the majority of films shot on 1:85 RATIO like comedy's,dramas, love stories etc..
but you can see just by the numbers itself..even though its confusing..but would you rather have $1.33 money-wise or $2.35?!! cant you see its almost half the picture your not (getting) seeing.
like i said best bet is to watch both versions either at the same time with two screens (even better) or watch five minutes of a FULL FRAME..and go to the WIDESCREEN for five...case closed...trust me you wont go back to FULL FRAME

Re: Widescreen Or Full frame?
hey wig,
Nah..just a fustrated filmaker..and im very big on the WIDESCREEN thing...for years now (15)plus.
i was always pissed off about VHS and the film ratio-thing. hoe it appeared to be leading us to believe that these are how films are. but it really doesnt have to do with the films cameras.
back in the 50s, when TV started to take over..and American audiences stayed away fromt the movie theaters..so the Big Movie studios wanted to draw people in the theaters again..so along came the 'cinemascope' and the widesceen movie to drawn the poeple in again..and make the movie experience 'larger than life'...
so to me, i refuse to watch a FULL FRAME or PAN & SCAN movie..in hope that someday, all the 'feature films' would be released to their true format that the directors and the producers intended for the movie-goers.
Hey nice to see another Pete Townshend or WHO fan out there! now go out there and get QUADROPHENIA or TOMMY in widescreen! and if DALTREY'S LIZSTOMANIA ever get a DVD release with the 2:35 ASPECT RATIO like it should be seen!!
another film tip..
PAN AND SCAN is when a 2:35 film is brought to the little sceen..there is actually some jerk who messes with the films original intent in post production (to video or TV) where they have the balls to move the camera shot (when the camera in filming never moved at all!!) to the left or right (like if one person is talking to another in a shot) all of a sudden you will see the PAN AND SCAN go into effect when the screen moves (looks a little blurry sometimes when moving) thats because the camera never moved at all in production or shooting...but for it to fit to TV of FULL FRAME so basically the Video companies decide what for you to see..which wasnt the filmakers intention at all!!
its confusing i know..but thats the problem why people just dont get it
:doubt:

Re: Widescreen Or Full frame?
I suppose it depends on the movie. Notice how certain movies that are made, as well as there sequals, seem to have a type a style. For instance the Die Hard Franchise is kept at a more wide screen vision, while others are left at full view. This is why I rather have both, because theres a reason why they have these particular styles.

HIGH HAT why are you quoting songs by The Who? I am realy confused now
By the way, that Endless Wire album is probably the worst they have ever done!
And adam88, I think your right. It depends what type of movie it is realy.

Re: Widescreen Or Full frame?
I dislike Widescreen. I accidentl bought Alien versus Predator on widescreen and didn't even know it. It feels like hal of the movie can't be seen. I perfer Full screen. It makes me feel like you can see the whole movie and not miss out.
Re: Widescreen Or Full frame?
I only have a few films on both widescreen and full frame. I could never bring myself to watch full frame. The only films I enjoy full frame are Kubrick's.

Whats your problem High Hat. I explained my opinion on Wide screen and Full Screen, and how I feel about it. Thats it, why are you acting confused like I said something so offensive?
