as you may know ive done a fair it of research on the actor marcelino sanchez, i have great admiration for him and i was always drawn to his character. i didnt feel like outing him before but accounts from people who knew him that i have found talking about his life and untimely death do seem to suggest he was homosexual.
as for rembrandt, theres no real evidence to say whether he is. some of sanchez's personality may come through in the character that could give off this element but as you've rightly said on here this in the film and without explainantion doesnt mean he is gay it just shows traits of his character regardless of sexuality. however it is plausable that Hill liked the idea of a gay Warrior (after all its a very diverse gang, in personality and of course in race) and would have encouraged Marcelino to play up this element. i know he had great fondness for Marcelino and went to his funeral regardless of the aids stigma of the time.
i personally feel, as when i watched the warriors with a fresh pair of eyes for the first time, that Rembrandt was simply the youngest and newest member of the gang and i thought that was a great dynamic for the character and it drew me in to his role. i still feel the Warriors has one of the best ranges of characters, albeit drawn with a thick pen, interacting in a movie - everyone is very distinct.
still wondering whether i should post this as i dont know how many people know that Marcelino Sanchez was homosexual and i dont want this to get unsavoury, but one last thing i will say if Rembrandt was gay, it doesnt matter in the slightest and if anything it would be a good thing, to increase the strength of the characters and, if Hill intended it, even on a subtle level, it was very bold and good of him and i imagine Sanchez wouldve been very moved by Hills thought.
