First off- Its my favorite game series.
Second off- Raiden isn't gay! He's a cool character in MGS2.
Third off- I agree, its a ripoff of Escape from NY. That doesn't stop it from being a totally awesome game though.
Fourth off- They actually are starting to go into the first phases of planning an MGS movie, although it can be cancelled with the snap of a finger now, because if there is a movie, it's not coming out till 2009. I think Hugh Jackman would play Solid Snake or Big Boss very well.
Fifth off- They made him like Plissken in ENY because they thought it would be the perfect role model for Snake. I mean come on, the attitude, quotes, voice, everything. Except the hair, really. And no, Konami didn't steal the eye patch idea. And NO, thats not Solid Snake in MGS3.
Sixth off- You shouldn't hate Hideo for getting inspiration off of plissken, more like PRAISE him for putting someone that cool into a video game. What more could you want in a game? Honestly? MGS has style, substance, the ability to get you to buy the next one, unforgettable characters, best storyline s, great music, action-stealth gameplay, i mean, what more do you people want?

It's not your opinion I'm POed about. It's the fact you're trying to justify all but LYNCHING Hideo Kojima because he liked Escape From New York a bit too much, and you spewed off the short but potent "RIP-OFF!" Spiel three times in one page in a topic full of enthusiasts. I'm not willing to argue with my fellow Warriors much, but if it's in the name of aspects of art - and believe me, Kojima is an artist - then I will take my stand.
There's plenty more aspects to MGS than Snake's sources of inspiration. There are plenty of reasons to love or hate it. Don't choose a trivial one and scream at the fans for it.

i mean, its okay to take looks, and base a character on another but the way this snake acts is just like the one in escape from new york, exactly. i mean in mgs3 snake even had an eyepatch and thats making it way to obvious.
and i have nothing against the creator, mgs is actually an amazing game but i just dont like for reasons ive made obvious. its like me and super mario, its a classic nintendo game i just dont like it.
and now i can finally go to sleep with a clear concience knowing ive cleared that mess up. good day to you!

I'm sorry, if you thought I was angry. I wasn't angry, and I'm not trying to start an argument. I was simply posting my comments on the topic, just like you were. And I wasn't looking at the dates when the posts were made.bobo the warrior wrote:what the hell? you are getting angry at me because of what i said in one of my really old posts? yeah i think you ARE! this is my opinion so why dont you shut the frig up before you start an argument !

The eyepatch... first off, that's not Solid Snake. That's Naked Snake AKA Big Boss. Big Boss used to look like Sean Connery back when you actually fight him in the original Metal Gear, but he always had the eyepatch. When they changed Solid Snake's look, since he was a clone of the Big Boss, they changed the Big Boss' look to reflect this (also, in MGS3, he's portrayed as younger than in MG2) so the eyepatch was a COINCIDENCE.
Snake could be almost any true movie badass. He's not entirely Plissken. He is, if anybody, a collection of them. Same goes for Big Boss.
I hope you didn't like Kill Bill, because Pai Mei wasn't even inspired by another writer's work. Pai Mei was someone else's work. Specifically that of the Shaw Brothers.
I'm done here.
