To be honest  hate Luther all together! Not the way hes played or anything but just ....him! You know what I mean? But I guessc hes probably meant to be hated. One thing that really annoys me is his voice and some of his lines like the one you said. Another one I hate is when he is on the floor with the Riffs about him "No...it wasnt us...it was them....the warriors" AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!! That is so pathetic!! Cowering on the ground like that, I tell ya, I'd hate to be led by that queer! I must admit though Dvid Patrick Kelly (God I hope thats right or else I'l look like a right idiot) does act very well and makes him what he is. A LITTLE WIMP WITH A PHSYCO VOICE!

I've changed my view of what he meant.  About ten years ago I started to see it differently.  At first I thought he was saying, you're crazy, as in I'll beat you up.  But now i think he means your crazy, I am not going to bother fist fighting when I don't have to.

I've noticed that guy too.  One guy is mixed up with them just as they huddle by their exit.  He must of  seen Ajax and decided to take his chances with the cops.

Ya, I have kinda felt like that about it too---though my first reaction/thought was:
You're crazy, cause you'll kill me, what do you think I am stupid, I am not going to get beat donw now,  I am armed, so I don't have to.

I really have to agree SHM, he was a coward---he wouldn't have fought hand to hand with Swan even with help from a few more of his guys---to much chance he could get hurt in my opinion.
and emmisary is right too--he was armed so he didn't have to.  Glad he didn't realize Swan wasn't unarmed himself, and had better eye hand coordination.

Have to say i am glad Swan rattled him enough so he was a POOR shot! LOL

luther was a psychotic coward who got what he deserved.his voice was annoying but thats what made you wanna look at his character more.

about the other gangs following the warriors route home i gotta go with you mike you would have thought that as soon as luther started sprouting that the warriors shot cyrus other gangs would probably have followed them to also get away from the cops.yet the funny thing is when the warriors grouped together at the old rotten fence there were other gang members stood with them yet they never bothered to follow the warriors through the escape route the made to head in to the graveyard.

how wierd was that :?

Can't say that line bothered me all that much.  In fact, I think it's kinda funny that Luther would call someone else crazy, seein as how he's nutty as a craphouse rat.  But, the way that he snivels on the sand after the fight shows that he is a coward without the gun.

Well, I don't think I'd go so far as to call Luther a full coward, a psychotic nutjob yes, but definitely not a coward. I mean when he accused Cleon of shooting Cyrus, he was the first one to go right at him, now I know many think he only did that cause he had Rogue backup and every other gang there for that matter. But the fact is he did charge and Cleon beat him down, whether he did it to show the Riffs he was a Cyrus fan or not is secondary. Also, he did shoot Cyrus, a lot of people say it does not take a lot to shoot an unarmed man, that is cowardly, and I agree, but he did take a life, you have to be a serious nutcase with some you know what to do that. At the beach, I don't think he backed down from Swan, he had a pistol and I guess he felt he did not have to waste his time getting his butt kicked by Swan, his intentions were to kill the remaining Warriors, seal the secret forever, and be on his way, ofcourse that was not meant to be. Lastly, he was the leader of the Rogues, and I think to be a leader of a gang you have tohave some accolades and credentials in order to secure a top spot like that, granted the movie never dwelled into how Luther came into that position, but there were hints of it. The gang followed him cause he was crazy, plain and simple, the way he yelled at the Candy Store clerk, the way he kept messing up his chief second, he was intimidating to say the least. Oh well, that is just my take on it, David Patrick Kelly played the part to a tee, and if you think he was psychotic in the "Warriors", see the movie "Dreamscape", that is like Luther at his best. Peace.

I would have to agree with you niterun that luther does have a certain psycho aggression.  He loves mayhem and isn't afraid to cause it, as long as he has a gun and his gang backing him up.  But If he was one on one with Swan, unarmed, I think it would be different.

I guess the only courage he showed, sort of, was when he ran at Cleon.  He had to know the leader of the Warriors would mess him up.  He took that elbow to the face.  Those Rogue guys must have some low self esteem to follow him.

yeah, actually, i though about that 2, after i think "niterun" said it.
luther runnin at cleon, but he knew, even if he did take that run at cleon, it wasn't gonna get far, and he wouldnt be beefin with cloen by himself for long!

he knew all his boys were gonna be on cleon 2, and hopefully the riff's by this time, might believe what he said about cleon shootin cyrus, and jump in 2!!
which is pretty much what happened!! LOL

so yeah, it showed a little bit of "stone's" on luther's part, but not much!! LOL
and i don't think luther had planned on gettin mopped, that fast by cleon!!

but, if ya think about it, gettin a somewhat small beat-down by cleon, woulda been a small price to pay, for what luther "almost" pulled off!!
(if he woulda pulled it off!)

I don't have as much of a problem with the line oor the character as I do with the fact that The Warriors never rumbled with The Rogues in the end. I think it was a bad move personally because it gives the movie a bit of an anti-climatic ending.

Had I been the director I would have had a fight between The Warriors and The Rogues, a tough, tight battle in which Swan starts to get the upper hand, casuing Luther to resort to taking out his gun and then Swan throwing the knife and finally the Riffs arriving.

But oh well, that's just my two cents :D

Well that was an intense moment for him.  He really needed to sell that the Warriors did it.

I do have a soft spot for the guy.. sure he's not the bravest of people.....but something about him seems as if you were to fight him on the street, he'd fight like a cornered rabid dog, and just bite your nose off and gouge out your eyes and bascially use no restraint whatsoever. He seemed like just a low down and dirty street fighter, the kind that would kick you in the crotch then proceed to smash your face into the curb.

That's why he was the boss-man. Though I think that he was the second in command.

Yeah I've never thought of him as the leader, but more as the war chief or luitenant.
