All good points on The Warriors' familiarity. I also like the way Ajax and Cochise seem to be buds of some sort.
Big Cyrus. He was gonna run the whole city...what crap that was.

Yeah, Cochise looks really pissed off when he finds out from Snow that Ajax got busted.

Coney Island Baby wrote:There are definitely more than 9 Warriors. At the beginning, Cleon says: ' Just remember this, out of a street family of 120, plus affiliates, you were chosen for this expedition, and that makes you special'. The 'street family' he's talking about is clearly his own gang, and the affiliates are late-joiners or members who have been adopted by the gang. I think Rembrandt is a late joiner (his character is in the book), this would explain why he appears to be much younger and, let's face it, wimpier than the rest of the gang. When Cleon says they've been 'chosen', he clearly doesn't mean out of all the gangs in the whole city, if that's what he meant the number would clock up to a helluva lot more than 120. And if a pathetic bunch of idiots like the Orphans have a gang of 30-40 members, then it stands to reason that the Warriors would have a lot more.

So there are over 120 Warriors, which means they're a pretty big gang, as big as, if not bigger than, the Riffs. So where were they when the Warriors returned? Good question. Cleon's equivalent in the book (Papa Arnold), makes it clear that he doesn't want his whole gang to see them off when they leave (only a few of their ladies do), so from this, we can assume that he also doesn't want them to be there when they return. Plus it is pretty early in the morning. But if the rest of the Warriors had listened to the radio at all that night, they would've known they were wanted. So maybe they sent out a search party looking for the others, who knows?

The real reason they're not in the movie though, is simple. They don't need to be. If they had all rushed out and killed the Rogues, there'd be nothing left for the Riffs. Plus it would've taken more time and more money to shoot - those vests are expensive you know. I think it's better that we don't see the rest of the gang, it adds a kind of mystery to it and allows us to use our imaginations. What are the rest of them like? How tough are they? When the remaining Warriors are standing under the pier at the end, you can see the name Spike written on the wall. I like to think Spike is Ajax's twin brother, who they couldn't bring along because he's even crazier than Ajax is.
ding ding ding! we have a winner! great explanation, i have had about a million people ask that question and the answer is right in cleon's speech, nice! :D

That is a really good explaination. I think it's safe to say that these Warriors must have been in the higher ranks or must have been the earlier members of the group for Cleon to bring them even Rembrandt!
We're going in there like everybody else nine guys no weapons

I think that eventhough Rembrandt is a real wimp, he still deserves the credit for using his wits. There was no need for Cochise and Vermin to follow the Lizzies. Rembrandt knew all along that it was probably a setup. I tend to believe that out of a 120 + affiliates there is not a member who matches Rembrandt's intelligence. Notice how in the train when they run away from the Turnbulls, they harassed him with jokes such as, "That's high math for Rembrandt" when asked to check on the map. They know he has the brains.

Okay, it makes sense. Then we can maybe agree that he was sort of mama's boy in the sense that he is often asked if he is alright, to stay close, etc. He was probably the pet of the bunch!

Well it would definately be a big coincidence if the Cyrus wanted 9 delegates and the warriors exactly consisted of only 9 members.  Even if no one saw the deleted scenes were Cleon says 120 plus affiliates, it would be common sense that there would be a lot more warriors.  In the world of gangs, in order to survive you have to find a large family that is willing to fight for your cause.  I know that the warriors are special, because even with just a group of nine, look what they were capable of doing. But in order to keep Coney Island as their own, you know they had to have a much larger family.  It would be hard for them to last that long with just 9 members. So just like each of the nine had their own unique abilities, just imagine what the rest of the street family has.

If you think about it in simpler terms, there most definetely has to be more Warriors for a number of reasons.

1) They wouldn't even be seen as a gang if there was only 9 of 'em. They would be seen a a group of friends trying to fight with people.

2) They would get absolutly desecrated of other gangs trying to muscle in on their turf, a team culd come packed with 20 men and the Warriors wouldnt stand a chance. They would lose their turf straight away.

and 3) I'm sure that if there was only 9 of them then most teams outwith Coney probably wouldnt of heard of them , never mind the Riffs, on the oher sideof the city. So they wouldnt of been invited to the conclave in a million years.
