Well since I am new, I'll add my thought.  When I first saw the movie, believe it or not I actually did not think of a hide out.  I always used to think that these guys came from  parts of the city that were rally poor, and if they were desperate, than they had a small hideout that was just for run aways.  You see for instance, I always thought that maybe Rembrandt was like an orphan(not the gang, an actual orphan), and maybe slept in that filthy hangout because he had no where to go.  Or Ajax was the type of lazy bum who could not afford rent, so he stayed at the hang out.  Basically I always thought of the hangout as more of a last resort for those who lived on the streets and needed a place to sleep even if it was a cold floor. Than I thought that some did have apartments.  Like the more responsible ones, like Cleon, Swan, and snow, and they used the money they made of the streets to pay rent.  I am not saying they lived in luxurious homes, but ones they could afford with the money they had.  This is why I do not like to use the video game as a reference, because the hideout looks like a cool club house, and sends a message that anyone can take a building and make it fancy.  Like I said I thought the hideout was more of just a filthy place to crash if you did not want to sleep in the subways like bums, because the neighborhood was protected by the warriors.  And than I figured most of them had some small apartment to live in.  Thats why I don't like when people quote the gang, because they automatically think they live in a fancy club house. I always thought it was more complicatec than that. For all you know maybe some had wifes a children to support in a one bedroom apartment, and lived a life of crime to support them, because there was no other way.
