I gotta tell ya, looking closely at vests in film... diamond

Post by Dave Mack »

Hey all, I have been looking closely at these stills and I gotta say that the inner diamond part of the vest trim is the same reddish brown as the rest, not lighter...

makes getting an accurate vest a bit interesting

Doesn't look the same to me at all.  Check out A1 vests and you can see that his was done so that the diamonds match the vest 100% and it's very obvious and then look at the pic in your post.

Cochise' vest from film. Same color it looks like....

I think light reflections, angles can come into play. Also the trim gives a bit of an optical illusion effect. If you could blow up and then cut out the color and contrast the 2 I think you'd find them, the same

Look very closely at Swan's vest, say in the middle.

hmm.. I still say the diamond trim is a lighter color then the vest.  Lighting or not, I've never seen 1 shot where the diamond trim is the same color as the rest of the vest.

Also, remember we can't go exactly by what we see on camera.. for example, I have a Batman costume piece that I was trying to replicate the color exact and could never do it, until I saw it in person.  On camera it looked a completely different color then it was in real life.  Very deceptive stuff.  The best thing we can do, is to replicate what we see and since the vests appear to be a brownish, reddish, marroonish color with black trim and light colored diamonds, that's the way they need to be replicated.  If only I could get my hands on a screen used vest, but the odds of that are one in a million.

i think it is the same colour but the darker brown that surrounds it make it appear different.

It's the same, clear in this shot IMHO....

I have a friend who works in wardrobe for film and TV and I can ask her opinion.

I gotta tell you...I"ve spent hours and hours researching this.  They're different colors, hands down.  They might be the same pleather, but the diamonds have definately undergone some kind of treatment to make them more gold than brown.  If anyone thinks they're the same color, you might want to look into adjusting the settings on your monitor...or an eye exam.

I disagree. Adjusting the brightness or color on the monitor would affect both the color of the diamond part and the main vest. The pic. of Cochise's vest when it was up for auction cements it. IMHO....
