Recurring Character Series

I love series of books that have recurring characters. Over the course of a few books, it's almost like they become part of the family as you see the characters grow and evolve. It makes for much more interesting reading when you actually care & become attached to certain characters. Some of my favourites:

Butch Karp/Marlene Ciampi & Family - NY District Attorney Butch Karp & his wife Marlene Ciampi have been around a long time in Robert K. Tannenbaums novels. Marlene has gone from a prosecutor to millionaire owner of a private security firm & back again to an investgator & attorney. She always seems to get caught up in trouble (and usually winds up killing someone) while husband Butch tries to cope with being married to someone who skirts the law. Never a dull moment in these novels.


Alex Cross - James Patterson's Alex Cross Novels are always good and have also featured great villains that will turn up in a couple of novels down the line if they happen to survive their first appearance.


Lucas Davenport - Another cop series in John Sandfords Prey novels. Always interesting to see what Davenport will do next.

Odd Thomas - Although Dean Koontz's character has only starred in 2 novels, he is a very memorable character nonetheless. He has the strange ability to be able to see the spirits of the dead (including Elvis  ), who usually seek him out looking for justice on the ones who caused their death. The ending of the first book is a real tear jerker.

I really like the Cherub seris by Robert Muchamore. They are about a Government branch of Child spies. I know, I know its extremely childish and I never thought I would like them at first but they give you a very entertaining read. I also the Wind Singer series by William Nicholson, these are more challenging reads, but still very entertaining. Both these series' revolve around one or two characters as well by the way in case you thouhg I was just talking about my favourite books. And I agree with Marlboroprojects, you kind of feel as if you get to know the Characters after a while.

if you read S.E. Hintons novals

she kinda has some cross overs i think its in rumble fish that Pney Boy(outsiders) has a small part

i think she does it a few times, i havent read over all her books in a while, i love them however all her books i think are my fav books of all time. the first books as a kid to really grasp me

I enjoyed the Joker's little saga in Gustav Hasford's The Short-timers and The Phantom Blooper

Also there's Yossarian in Catch-22 and Closing Time, both by Joseph Heller

Anyone read much Irvine Welsh? (the guy who wrote Trainspotting) The same bunch of characters always keep popping up in his books, not necessarily in important roles, but even just little cameos, like maybe the main character bumps into the main character from another book on a train or something. It's cool.

I really like the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher (Wizard for hire,Wizard by trade,Wizard by large) they're like a more adult oriented Harry Potter.

Stephen King's The Dark Tower series is good.  They also contain lots of appearences by characters from King novels outside of The Dark Tower books.
