El Cantante

Post by emissary »

If you are Puerto Rican or interested in Salsa music or even if you just like the story of a 60's 70's star who rises and then falls, see this movie.  I am not a j-lo fan, so I had to endure her part, which was huge, but still it was a great story.

I'll wait to see it when it comes out on television.  As a Puerto Rican myself, its good to see positive images on screen, of people just trying to make it in society.  As apposed to the stereyotypical images that distort and ruin the culture like the Latin Kings for example.  Everything from the music, to the cloths, and the whole 60's and 70's culture just simply tells a story of human beings, and the beauty of how they communicate through music, and struggle in life just like anyone else.  I'll definatly check this out eventually, and see the beauty of this type of music.

Man just when I thought things couldn't get worse for the movie undustry, this crap comes out.  Not a j-lo fan either nor Marc Anthony, he can sing but as far as acting, man they both are bad at it. :doubt:    ::)

If you really want to see the story of how this legend became what he did watch the movie...but just wait til it comes out on television at least to get a sense of what its about...of course JLo had to star in it and ruin it with her over dramatic acting!!!! I read somewhere that during an upsetting scene Marc Anthony accidentally called JLo by her real name instead of the character name...

Unfortunately I thought that the movie kind felt like a "made for TV" movie...But i always thought that Marc Anthony can really recreate the role of El Cantante...both their musical improvisations are similiar...I love how El Cantante and Willie Colon (a trombone player) can really make music together

by the way Hector Lavoe a.k.a. El Cantante is a real singer if you guys didn't know!!!  :)
