Opening Scene Preference
Having now read the orginal script I am curious to know which of the three opening scenes you prefer.
Would you have liked to have seen Ajax working out on the beach and watch Swan showing of his knife skills. And how cool would it have been to see the Warriors march though the Mongols patch.
Or do you prefer the tv version with the daytime opening scene of Cleon talking to his girlfriend and then addressing each of the Warriors as to why they have been chosen.
Or do you prefer Walter Hill's decision that the film starts at night with the opening shot of the Wonder Wheel and the only day scene being at the end after their night of hell .
IMO I prefer the version which starts at night. I appreciate that without the daytime scenes it leaves some unanswered gaps in the film but I just think that the strength of the opening scene at night and the music just sets the pace for the whole film. When I watch the daytime version I just don't get that immediate impact and expectancy. I also just can't get over Cleon's dodgy hairstyle and think he should not be seen without his head scarf/piece. I also don't like the music that is played when the Warriors walk away as this music dates the film.
I'm interested to know what the film would have been like if they had stuck to the scripted version but for me I still think having the film start at night and immediately seeing some of the other gangs plus listening to the Warriors in pairs talking about the conclave was just the perfect start to a classic film.
What do you think???

Opening Scene Preference
I really like how the TV version develops the characters a little bit & explains the circumstances of the big conclave. But still, I have to go with Walter Hill and vote for the movie version, with the movie starting with our heros in "the dark" and making it to "the light."

i like the tv version opening because it tells you all the members and a little bit about them.

TV verison all the way. you get to see Cleon's hair. He looks like a young Sam L Jackson.

I remeber the Warriors being on Spike and they did not have any of the cut sceens. I was pissed. do they still show the cut sceens on TV?

Opening Scene Preference
I know when it's on the BBC they show the daytime opening scene.

That really surprised me! I was so glad I taped that showing. It was before you could get The Warriors on DVD and so I taped it as it was being shown in widescreen. The extra scenes are great. Also, great to hear Link Wray.
But I prefer the original version- the night shot of the Wonder Wheel and the start of the Warriors theme by Barry De Vorzon (the very start of the theme isn't on the soundtrack) sets the scene very well.
One of the best openings for a movie I have ever seen. Macabre and gritty- it hooks you until the very end of the movie. Classic.

Re: Opening Scene Preference
Hands down the original film version.  The intro is what makes this movie.

Well although the original intro does make a lot more sense, it is the intro that we are all used to that just makes a stronger impact.  To elaborate on it more, I noticed that the one we are used to simple pops out of no where. I mean when I first saw it, I was like "wow, who are these guys, how many of them are there, and the intro of the other gangs just gave me goosbumps"  It actually wasn't until the semetary scene that we got more aquanted with the.  So the one we are used to,makes you think, "wow whats going on", you know wh I mean.

Yeah, man I feel you. What you said makes a lot of sense. Without proper intros, we have no idea who any of them are until a good length into the movie.

Well I don't just want to analyze anyone else choice, but at this point I was wondering, day opening scene, with Cleon's girlfriend and the boardwalk... etc... we could connect this topic to what all of us have written in "Why didn't they just called" topic... http://warriorsmovie.co.uk/forum/index. ... 982.0  ...well, page 2 indeed.Lion wrote:I like this idea, you took the words out of my mouthVermin16 wrote: Yeah, man I feel you. Cause, I'd like to say that if Hill had decided 4 day opening (anyway also very cool!!!)... he should have inserted a scene with at least Cleon's girl waiting 4 them the morning after... or not? Your thought mates?
Wow what a "weave"!!! 8)

Re: Opening Scene Preference
I think the whole girlfriend waiting would of added a little sympathy to the film, I would of liken to have seen that.
