The meaning behind the Warrior's names?
Most of the Warrior's street names are easy to make since of. Ajax was named after the greek warrior, Fox was nimble and quick witted, Cowbow wore a cowboy hat - easy.
But what about Cochise and Cleon? What are those names about? I did a quick search and this is what I turned up:
Cochise:
Cochise (A-da-tli-chi = "hardwood", also Cheis) (c. 1812?June 9, 1874) was a chief (nantan) of the Chokonen ("central" or "real" Chiricahua) band of the Chiricahua Apache and the leader of an uprising that began in 1861. Cochise was the most famous Apache leader to resist intrusions by whites during the 19th century. He was described as a large man, for the time, with a muscular frame and classical Roman features and long black hair he wore in traditional Apache style.

Cleon:
Cleon (d. 422 BC), Athenian politician during the Peloponnesian War, was the son of Cleaenetus, from whom he inherited a lucrative tannery (tanning) business. He was the first prominent representative of the commercial class in Athenian politics.

I think the Cochise/Apache link is clear. in the movie, Cochise wears a lot of Native American gear (headress, choker, arm bands, suede boot/moccasins, his pants have sewn-i metal charms down the sides and the tell tale Indian Chief belt buckle.
Cleon - I'm not so sure.

I think Swan was used metaphorically - ugly duckling transforms into a beautiful swan. He (and arguably Mercy who is clinging on) is the only character in the movie who seems displeased with the life path he is on. The journey home solidifies his need for something more out of life and transforms him. I get the sense that when he says "maybe I'll just take off" he means it. It seems like that one terrible night matured him beyond the point where he could be content with a life of bopping - he knows where that life would ultimately lead.
Long story short, call the one guy who might escape this mess and beome something better: Swan.

Yes! I totally agree about Swan. He carries a heavy heart all the time.

Vermin= mices/rats, maybe he kind of a scum bag, or if it means Zero, it can show off of his life, like he's nothing, just a zero. in "A bronx tale" one of the kids in the gang was named Zero. he was named that because he would never do anything with his life.

I think they call him Snow to piss him off. Because he's black, they might think its kind of funny to call him snow, either that or he is a coke head. But i think its because he's black.

Cleon represented Clearchus, whom in the original tale of Anabasis, was the general of the Pelopennesian group, on which the story centered. When the leader, Cyrus the younger, was slain, Clearchus and crew were blamed, and Clearchus was captured and executed by his fellow generals.
* Insert awesome line from the Warriors here. *

The meaning behind the Warrior's names?
sometime's names mean something, and somtime's they don't mean squat!!
i've known a ton of gang bangers when i was younger, and sometime's dude's took names that just sounded kool or tough!
sometime's your name is given to you, sometime's you already have a name.
i had a buddy who got stabbed in the eye, when he was like 14, or 15, and he was blind in that eye. (he had a gold line that went directly across his eye, from the knife! it was actually pretty kool to look at!)
and his nick-name from day on was "dead-eye"
we had a fat guy named bone's.
and sometime's there just ain't no meaning behind the name.
now there was meaning behind my nick-name, but that's a story for another time.

No that is definitly not why the call him "Snowball". Im not sure how he got the name but Snow is too respected to be called that for laughs.PadLock wrote:I think they call him Snow to piss him off. They probably call him snow because when a guy is scared stiff, he turns white as snow and wont say anything. I guess people turn white when they see Snow and cower in his might. Far fetched, I know.

The meaning behind the Warrior's names?
I always thought that since Cochise had some Native American trappings-there could be some Indian blood in his background.
AND back then, Cochise and Geronimo were some of the most famous Indians, and there were several movies out about them, and several old tv shows too.
So they could have just started using that as his name to go with his choice of BOOTs(i had a pair in 72)--as those full legged mocs were Apache/Commanche all the way.
Just like they called Cowboy from his wearing the hat.
I think Cleon is his actual name, I don't think it is a nickname. Because when you are a leader, you don't have to have nicknames--you are who you are.
I agree, that Swan may have represented the turn your life around theary---but I don't know if the gang would have been that symbolic---I kinda wondered if maybe his last name wasn't Swanson, or Swanmeyer, ??--and they just shortened it down. it would have been easy, and simple.
Ajax, back in the 50-60-70 Ajax was a household cleaner that would take out any thing!!! it was a gritty powder, and you can still buy it today if you look for it. I felt Ajax was named for that cleaner.

My Guess is Vermin is called that because of his Ratty look. Plus his one track mind on Girls.PadLock wrote:Vermin= mices/rats, maybe he kind of a scum bag, or if it means Zero, it can show off of his life, like he's nothing, just a zero. in "A bronx tale" one of the kids in the gang was named Zero. he was named that because he would never do anything with his life.
