This is the place next door to the Candy store.

Unfortunately it no longer exists and i don't know what has replaced it.

Well, I live about five miles from that spot. How did you come to find out that that is the location of the candy store? I'll try to get over there and see if it looks familiar and, if so, what's replaced the candy store.

If you watch the film you can see the phone number on the building next door as the Rogues car pull up!

I gave it a call and the lady said they had been there about 25 years and she thinks that a Candy store was next door some years ago.

Sorry if i'm sending you on a wasted journey but, you only live 5 miles away so should only cost you $2 on the subway!

Brooklyn-based author Jonathan Lethem (Fortress of Solitude) wrote a fascinating article for the December issue of Harper's Magazine on growing up near the Hoyt-Schermerhorn subway station in the Boerum Hill area of Brooklyn, near downtown.

For those wondering what this has to do with The Warriors, this station has the distinction of having an abandoned platform/track and therefore is used aplenty by film companies because of the unrestricted filming it allows.

Much of The Warriors was shot in this station, disguised to look like other stations. For example, the interiors of the film's "92nd St. station" are actually Hoyt-Schermerhorn. With freeze-frame capabilities, you can see where the set designer missed some of the wall tiles and other signage identifying the station. Lethem discusses happening upon the film crew as a teenager when the film was being shot at the station. He mentions seeing the actors dressed in the various garbs of the gangs--the station was also used for the opening credit montage.

In same article, Lethem discussed sharing a train ride to a conference with Warriors scribe Sol Yurick.

Great investigatory work! I made it to the spot yesterday. Unfortunately, I have to say, there is not much to see. As it appears in the film, the candy store "bodega" locale is quite nondescript. There are countless similarly designed stores--with the classic Coke logo-adorned sign--around the city.

The block I was on, if it was the correct address, resembled nothing we see in the film. There was an unsightly laundromat and a few other unexciting storefronts, one or two of which were closed. On the next block, there were some bodegas, but none resembling the one from the film. I'm afraid this was a case of a location changing quite drastically over the years (unlike the great shots posted of the 72nd St. Subway and Riverside Park areas).

I did not take a picture, in part, because it was about 0 degrees here yesterday. If anyone is dying to see it, I will try to get back there when it is not so inclimate and snap a few pics.

I think it opens in March and closes October?

I'm going in April so will let you know! I had to put my planned trip over in November off. At least C.I will be open by then (wonderwheel etc.)!

Is it still rideable?

I actually just rode the Wonder Wheel for the first time last summer, despite being NYC born and bred. I'm not a fan of ferris wheels, but went on it for The Warriors connection. The thing with the Wonder Wheel is the "inside track" which makes the cars on it actually move along a sort "track" which can get a little scary lol. My thing is roller coasters tho', and I went on The Cyclone the same day, it being the most famous wooden coaster remaining so it does feel like it's falling apart, which is cool but it really can't compare to today's modern day supercoasters. Like at Great Adventure in New Jersey right now, they have tons of great coasters but damn they are building the world's biggest coaster there right now, almost 500 freaking feet tall!! Save me a seat!

Incidentally when The Warriors was filmed there was a second coaster in Coney at the time (but it may have been closed down then, I'm not sure and I forget the name of it), and you can see it in the film but it has been knocked down since.
