New vest is here! NEW PICTURES, PAGE 2. PATCHES ADDED.

Post by WarlordSwan »

Well, just got this badass vest from Charlloots today, with no patches.  All I have to say is, wow!  This is a smokin hot vest and super accurate in almost everyway.  Construction, cut, color etc.. right on the money.  Will be adding the felt background and attaching my WarriorCleon patches to them really soon and will snap new photos.  I may even have my leather guy attach the black corners to the pockets, we'll see what he says.  Here it tizz and thanks Charlloots!

no offense and I'm glad you're happy with the vest but what happened to the "snug arm holes" and the "70's fit"..? This looks IDENTICAL to my a-1 vest. Honestly.
Confused....

No offence taken.  I did write, "super accurate in ALMOST every way". :)  The only minor things would be tighter arm holes and pointy pockets.. other then that, the A1 vest I had, the arm holes were much bigger with the whole vest being a  little baggier then this vest.  This vest actually hugs my body more and definetely hugs the body more like that 70's look.  Something about laying it down flat, makes the arm holes look really big, but they aren't too bad when wearing.  Definetely the most accurate I've owned so far, but I think of it as another few steps closer to 100% accuracy.  Reminds me of the Batman days on the Batman costume boards I'm part of,  slowly evolved and evolved until we all started making very accurate movie looking suits, I see the same thing happening here.  We'll see how mondotee's does and how I do when I finally get around to making them with my leather guy.

Here's a few more pictures.  My mondotees original design vest and my charlloots new designed vest, then of coarse the only way to wear a vest, shirtless :p.

Quick review (for the record, mondotee's is working on a brand new vest and this is only speaking about the previous vest):

The buttons on the mondotee's vest are better, in my opinion.  The only suggestion I'd give to charlloots is to possibly make the buttons a little smaller and not so orange.  In almost every light, the buttons really stick out, because of their size and color. but they can easily be changed, which I'll be doing.  Both vests fit me well, but I'd suggest contacting Charlloots before picking one up from him, as they do run a little bigger then you'd expect.  For example, the mondotee's vest in the pic is a size medium and the charlloots vest in the pic is a size small.. and they are roughly the same size, with the charlloots vest being a dash bigger, even though they are sold as different sizes compared to one another, so just to be safe contact charlloots first, which is what I did and am glad I did.. I almost got a medium, which would have been way too big.  The charlloots vest definetely has the cut down, trim down and the color down, as the mondotee's vest in the picture was dyed to be that color, the charlloots vest comes in the color in the pic (very similar in color to another as you can see).  Over-all, very excited to see where the next generation of vests are going and I'll be adding every interpretation of the vests out there.  Here's the pics:

Good pics and I gotta agree you bring up a good point about the buttons. Liked your dye job from a while back and after seeing them side to side it really shows what a nice job you did.

Your a braver man than I, don't think I could handle a full sized Freddie in my room. (Hope you can sneak in a picture of him in sometime).

Thanks for the later pics. Warlord Swan. Definitely looks better when wearing it. I do agree about the buttons though. I think they're much smaller in the film versions but that is easily changed. Which patches are the biggest? I am 6/2 230 so I have an XL from A-1 and the patches that came on mine just look way too small...

No prob bro.  The Warbird on the A-1 vests isn't too bad, but the top rocker definetely needs to be changed on it.  It's not supposed to be white, but kind of an off-white, almost brass color. The WarriorCleon patches I think are perfect, in that they are done with a type of thread that changes colors depending on how the light hits them.  In some lights they look white, in other lights they literally change to that brass color.  I know the warriorcleon patches are a little bigger then A-1's, which I sent a copy of to alexfugazi, in which I believe he made them even bigger then that when reproducing them, so I would contact him about a new top rocker for your vest.  Other then that, looks good on ya and definetely seems to fit you better then it fit me.  Hope that helps.

If you look at this picture, you can see how some areas of the patches look white, while other areas look brass-ish, because of how the light was in the pic (look at the left side of the warbird as opposed to the right):

If anyone wants to, heres a cheap way to modify your existing A1 top rocker:

Brush on some clean water on the white parts.  Mix some white acrylic paint with a small bit of metalic gold acrylic (make it watery). Apply to wet parts of your rocker and violla...an off white colour that catches the light at different angles.

It depends which version of the A1 vest you have.  My Warriorcleon patches are smaller than A1s

I got a medium size from A1.  Like you, im also 6ft2.  I would have liked it to be a couple of inches longer, but there is more than enough room width ways.  If i had got the next size up, the width would have drowned me.

Heres a pic of my slightly modified vest.  Still have to finish off some little details on the patches.

Sorry about having to take up 3 posts.  My pc kept cutting off the I.S.P everytime i tried to open a second window.

Hi, Ninth delegate. Yours looks MUCH more authentic than mine patch size=wise. I gues because I will be wearing at least an XL vest, I need the biggest patches available. Mine definitely seem too small.

I'll more than likely get a set of the new patches from Mondotees.  I keep making alterations to mine. I think ive made the wings a little too dark and the skull needs toning down slightly.  Im happy with the rocker tho.

Ideally, i would like to find an old leather jacket of simular colour which i can cut up and make my own vest.  Not spotted anything suitable yet

This is the pic i meant to post instead of the one in my previous post (lack of sleep).

That using acrylic idea is a great idea.  Going to have to do that on my new Mondotee's vest.
