Ok remeber in 14th street union square when Mercy met up with Swan? Well out of the blue she said"See those dudes over there? Thier after you." Ok the answer I wanna know is...How did she actually know? The Punks could've been mistaken for regular civilians...I mean back then overalls were popular..So how could she know they were a gang?
Maybe and bad energy was coming from these guys or maybe Mercy has been around the Punks before....well you know since she was a prostitute and all.

IMO, she could know other gangs... but other Bronx gangs... anyway who can know? Perhaps she went out The Bronx before that night, and saw other "guys".
Surely she knew that guy was a gang member, cause she's very smart and knows gangs' rules!
I mean Swan is from Coney, wearing other "colours" in a foreign turf... so she understood that guy was defensing his territory.
Mercy didn't still know about Cyrus, luther and The Warriors... and that The Punks were after The Warriors also 4 another reason!!! 8)

Well, you could be right.  Perhaps it was intuition.  After all if you think about, Swan said "I know their on my ass, but now they know I know it".  So what I am trying to say is, that if Swan had an intuition that he was being followed, pehaps Mercy has the same sense that he had as well.

In this case Mercy had that intuition that they were on him...its like having that intuition when you know you're being followed...yet they were just standing there staring at him in the wee hours of the morning! Mercy and anybody else would sense that they were up to no good...why else would you just stand there with a group of other people staring at one single person who's staring into space, especially in a train station?  Back then the train stations weren't safe either...Swan really had guts being on his own...We know they're not civilians standing around doing nothing...even if they were why would they be there and catch so much attention in the movie...

Note: Instead of attacking right away, they waited so they wouldn't want to make it too hard for Swan to defend himself from 3+ guys so they just waited to see if any of his other gang members (the Warriors) would show up to make it a fair fight...

I agree, I thought that maybe she had seen them pursuing swan through the station, and guessed they are probably following him for a reason.

Thats right. Thats what I meant when I said Mercy could have sensed a bad aura coming from them.

Well.. there really isnt much question about that scene.. as mentioned on this topic it isnt rather Mercy knew The Punks or not its the fact that obviously The Punks looked like they wanted to "wreck" Swan and Mercy knew this. If she actually knew The Punks she would of warned Swan that there were more that just 3. Considering The Punks were the ONLY ones standing there watching Swan obviously they want trouble.....

They could've been normal people cuz Overalls were supposedly popular back in the 70's. They can't still fit in as civilians....but like you all said A bad aura was coming from them.
