THE MIST!

Post by Cowboy Is Cool »

Oh my God! I'm a big Stephen King fan, and one of his best novels was the Mist. It's been in development hell for about 20 years now, but it's finally hitting the big screen.

Here's the trailer. This looks AMAZING.

Looks a bit similiar to The Fog. But them monster things looked a bit daft, looked like midget Dragons. What are they?

There's a bunch of creatures in the mist, all of them different. Here's the list from wikipedia, but be warned, there's alot of spoilers here:

1.Numerous squid-like tentacles which kill Norm in the storage room. The unseen creature to which the tentacles are connected is presumably very large.
2.Insect-like creatures between two and four feet long which swarm over the store windows at dusk. These creatures have some of the characteristics of flies.
3.Pale pterodactyls which pluck the aforementioned insects off of the store windows. One enters through a broken window and kills a man named Tom Smalley.
4.Spider-like predators which hunt by scent. These have the ability to project acidic "spider-webs" which can burn through materials like cloth and flesh.
5.Giant lobster/scorpion creatures that prey on smaller creatures.
6.A creature described as a nightmarish living kite which flies by the road.
7.A creature described as a giant dragonfly.
8.A colossal behemoth with six legs. Other than the legs, with hundreds of the "bugs" attached to them, this creature is unseen. Although the creature's exact size is never specified, David gets the impression that its size would make a blue whale resemble a trout if both were posed together.

And also, the Fog is about ghosts, while the Mist is about these strange creatures, and also, the Mist focuses more on what's going on inside the store. Like, as the director put it: "The story is less about the monsters outside than about the monsters inside, the people you're stuck with, your friends and neighbors breaking under the strain."

Oh, and about the monsters, trust me, they're terrifying in the novel. The trailer's special effects are unfinished, that's why they don't look that good.

Now, let me state that The Mist is my favourite short story ever. That said, this movie looks absolutely awful. The special effects are terrible, even for a trailer, the acting is flat as hell, and it just generally looks bad. I was excited when I heard they were making a movie version of The Mist. Not so much anymore. God dammit Hollywood.

The special effects are unfinished, like I said. The acting, I can't really say anything about. And just so you know, three critics have already seen it, and they all say it's amazing.

The director of Shaun of the Dead, Edgar Wright,  (a huge SK fan) also saw it and loved it, along with Quentin Tarantino.

I never said that I'm totally turned off by it. I'm still going to see it, just I'm not so incredibly excited anymore after seeing the trailer. For all I know, I could be totally wrong and end up thinking it's the best horror movie in history. I'm just going to stay neutral until I actually watch the movie, as you've brought up some good points.

I wanna see this movie so bad. I want to see what those creatures look like. Hopefully they don't look all crappy..cuz they do look kinda cool but the coolest part was the beast with the tentacles that should be real cool..I expect that monster to be the best out of the whole film.

The new trailer... I'm still so psyched about this movie. Almost everything in the trailer is in the book. It seems to be really faithful.
