There was suddenly a bang at the door breaking up the small happy moment between the three girls and as Vermin walked through the door Robin quickly threw the test back to Mercy who shoved it in her pocket.
"Hey, what are you three doing in here?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. The three quickly plastered rather fake smiles across their faces and stood almost in a line.
"Nothing" Mercy said quickly.
"We were...." Melody began suddenly unable to think of what to say.
"We were just looking through this stuff..." Robin finished, the smile still on her face. She was terrified. She was still trying to process the information that she was pregnant so how on earth was she meant to tell Vermin? She decided it was probably best to tell him tomorrow. That way she'd have pleanty of time to prepare...and to think things through.
Was she really ready to have a baby? Even if Vermin was older, she was only 25 and had a whole gang to run. Mothers worked full time all over the place, "But not many of them live the street life" she thought. It's not that it couldn't be done. Robin herself was brought up around gangs, she had been around the Satans Mothers with her Dad since before she could walk. It was all she knew and she loved it but did she really want that for her own kid? Sure it was the free life and you had a whole different family to take care of you (Plus her child would have three gangs at he or she's beck and call) but it was dangerous too. She couldn't count on two hands how many rumbles she'd been in and how many injuries she'd recieved from it. Just today she had been given a good knock to the head.
"Robin? ROBIN!" Mercy was shouting and snapping her fingers infront of the small brunette's face, waking her from her daydream.
"Huh?" Robin muttered looking around her. Melody frowned.
"You must have been cracked on the dome harder than we thought! You totally spaced out!" Robin smiled at her friends and her boyfriend.
"Yeah, I think i'm going to go have a lie down" She muttered before kissing Vermin and heading off to the bedroom. Vermin frowned and turned to Mercy and Melody.
"Is she alright?" he asked. Mercy smiled.
"She's fine, she'll just be a little tired. She'll be better in the morning I promise"
------------------------
Vermin didn't sleep much that night. His problem was he was a worrier when it came down to it, once something concerned him he pondered on it sometimes to the point that it made him feel ill. Tonight was one of those nights and he hadn't stopped worrying about Robin since she had went to bed. While she slept peacefully next to him he lay awake, his gaze on the ceiling. She woke to find his eyes open and still staring ahead.
"This is a first" She muttered with a smile, her voice still thick with sleep "You're hardly ever awake before me" He turned to her.
"Morning to you too. Yeah I just...I just couldn't sleep" Robin frowned and rubbed her eyes.
"Why's that? Something bothering you?" Vermin thought for a moment if it was a good idea to bring the subject up but if he couldn't talk to his girlfriend, who could he talk to.
"Funny you should say that" he began "Is everything alright?" He asked. HIs voice wasn't as light as it normally was and this took Robin by surprise. She knew Vermin was only serious when he really had to be and this was apparently one of those times. Her eyes darted away from his, a move that didn't go unnoticed.
"Yeah, everythings fine. Why?" Vermin shook his head.
"No reason...you've just not really been yourself thats all. I'm worried about you" He said. She smiled and leaned forward, holding onto his cheek with her hand and kissed him.
"Babe, i'm fine. You worry too much!" she said. He nodded and smiled.
"Well if you say everythings alright then I guess it is" She nodded.
"Thats right it is. Now I need get ready. I promised Melody i'd help her with something" She said lightly as she pulled herself out of the bed. Vemin just lay there for a moment longer, not entirely convinced that everything was as fine as Robin was making out.
"Okay, we're still meeting up later yeah?" He asked. All she did was turn and nod at him with a smile before going to get washed. That was all the proof he needed. Something wasn't right.
------------------
"Maybe she's cheating on you?" Cochise commented. Cochise, Cowboy, Swan, Snow, Rembrant all were sitting around listening to Vermin's problem. Cowboy frowned.
"Don't be dumb! Robin wouldn't do that" Rembrant exclaimed. Cochise scoffed at him.
"And just how do you know that? Just because you're dating her friend doesn't mean you know what shes like!" Cochise said. Rembrant didn't retaliate, since he knew Cochise had a point. He knew Robin to be a fun person but he didn't exactly know her real personality but Vermin did and he hoped that Vermin had the sense to realise that Robin wasn't the kind to cheat.
"No, Rembrants right. She wouldn't do that" Vermin muttered with a deep frown. Cochise just shrugged.
"I used to go out with this girl right," Snow began "And a few days before she dumped me, she started acting really weird. Totally different to her usual personality" He said. Vermin raised his head from where it was leaning on his hands in shock.
"You don't think..." He began, not sure he wanted to hear the words. After everything they had gone through to be together, surly she wasn't about to throw it all away for some reason.
"Hey, man all I'm saying is that could be a reason..." Vermin felt sick. It wasn't exactly the encouragement he was hoping his gang was going to give him.
"I have to go" He said suddenly standing up and starting to walk away.
"Where are you going?" Cowboy asked. Vermin didn't turn around to answer.
"I'm going to find out whats going on"
------------------
"Robin?! Robin are you in here?" Vermin shouted as he stormed through the appartment door. The walk home hadn't calmed him down at all like he had hoped to, it had only made him angry. Why after all the hardship they went through to be together and the time they've spent together, why now would she choose to break up with him. Of course he didn't know if this was the case but he was in no mood for rational thinking. He found her sitting on the sofa, book still in her hand but she was bracing herself, the sudden entry giving her a fright.
"I'm here, whats wrong?" She said, pushing herself up. His jaw was set in anger and he was pacing the room.
"This....Us, Thats whats wrong!" he shouted "Why won't you trust me huh?" Robin looked confused and his comment more than stung.
"I do trust you! What the hell is going on with you?!" She shouted back. He suddenly stalked over to her and stood directing infront of her, only a few inches away.
"What are you keeping from me? I know theres something you're not telling me!" He shouted. Robin drew in a deep breath. She was hoping to have told him after she had had the chance to digest the information herself.
"I...I..."
"Just give me a straight answer..."
"I'm trying to think of what to say.."
"Look if you're going to end it then just grow a spine and end it! Don't mess me around!" he shouted. She fell back onto the sofa as he stood with his arms crossed. His face softened and he let his arms fall to his side at the sight of tears starting to roll down Robin's cheeks. He hated that it was his fault that she was crying, he wasn't that type of guy.
"Is that what you think is going on?" She said quietly, sniffing back her tears "You think that I want to leave?"
Vermin didn't say anything but his eyes cast to the ground. Robin wiped her eyes and scowled at him.
"Who put this idea in your head huh? Cochise? Cowboy? Snow?" She snapped "You let yourself get so worked up over something that just wasn't true!"
"I'm..sorry..."
"I love the fact that you knew something was different even when I tried my best to hide it...but it kills me that you'd think the worst" She said, tears running down her cheeks.
All of Vermins anger had melted away leaving him feeling nothing but regret. He let his anger get the better of him and he jumped straight to the wrong conclusion.
"I'm not cheating on you! I'm not going to break up with you! I'm pregnant!" She screamed as loud as her lungs would allow her to.
The word 'pregnant' was enough to knock the air out of Vermin's lungs and he found that he couldn't breathe easily. Without him even realising he was clutching his chest and was walking backwards until he landed with a soft thud on one of the chairs in the room. Robin didn't say anything either, she figured he would need a moment for it to sink in so she decided to dry her eyes while she waited.
"You...You're..What?" Robin sighed.
"I'm pregnant. I found out last night and I didn't know how to tell you thats all" Vermins eyes were wide and he kept his gaze fixed firmly on the floor while he nodded.
"I...I just..I don't get how this happened...."
"Well I think it's pretty obvious" Robin sniggered walking over to the window while Vermin stayed perfectly still.
"But we used protection...everytime!" He said. Robin nodded in agreement.
"Well yeah but those things are only like...97% effective!" She said with a shrug. Vermin stood up and started to pace the room.
"What? Seriously! They should put that on the wrapper!" He exclaimed, his mind racing. Robin sighed. She had hoped he would take the news a little better. He suddenly darted into the bedroom, running back out holding a condom wrapper.
"WELL THEY SHOULD PUT IT IN HUGE BLOCK LETTERS!!" He shouted. Robin slowly began to slide her way to where one of Vermin's hooded tops was lying, picking it up and slowly pulling it on.
"I'm going to complain! Right now!"
"Complain to who exactly?" Robin asked as she finished pulling the hodded top on. Vermin quickly grabbed a stray pen and wrote down the number on the back of the condom back.
"I want to talk to the president of the condom company!!" Robin shook her head.
"Alright, you're acting like an idiot..." Vermin threw the wrapper behind him and began to pace around again.
"Oh am I? AM I!? I Don't think i'm over reacting at all! I'm fine....I am just fine!" He said. His eyes were huge and manic and if Robin hadn't know him as well as she did she might have been a little afraid. With a frown she began to walk towards the door.
"Yes you are. When you're ready to talk to me like a real man...come and find me" She said but she wasn't entirely sure the Vermin heard her. He was still pacing the room.
-------------------
"He did what?!" Melody and Mercy both shouted together at the same time. When Robin had left the apartment the first thing she thought of was going to find Mercy and Melody to tell them what had happened.
"You heard right. He totally flipped out!" She said, a little dead pan and disappointed. All three of them were sitting on Robin and Vermin's bench infront of the sea. It was a grey day that was matching Robin's mood perfectly.
"I can't believe he took it that badly!" Melody said, "I mean I didn't expect him to take it well straight away but to totally flip. I just didn't see it coming"
"I know, it's so unlike him!" Mercy agreed. Robin nodded and wiped both her eyes free from tears. She was tired, stressed and starting to feel ill.
"All I wanted was for him to talk to me about it, maybe tell me that everything is going to be fine and that things will work out but instead he changes into this crazy person who I don't even recognise!" She sobbed, "What am I going to do?" Mercy put her arms around the crying harlot.
"Don't worry, you've got all of us no matter what you decide okay?" Robin nodded.
"Thanks guys...can I get some time alone? I just need to think for a while" She said quietly. Mercy and Melody just nodded and with a few hugs they both left Robin to sit alone watching the ocean.
