How it Once Was- An Akira fanfic (don't worry, even non-fans could read this)

Now, I'm going to start writing this sometime tonight, and should have it up by tomorrow. Anyways, Akira is a masterpiece- amazing, my favorite movie. Since a minor element in the (epic) plot of Akira deals with street gangs reminiscent of Warriors gangs, I figured I would post my story here.

If you have never seen Akira, no worries, I will explain everything you need to know in the story, and give you pics of the characters so you can have a visual reference.

Okay, here are the main characters, just so you know who's who. Warning: Major Akira spoilers!


Shotaro Kaneda
Shotaro Kaneda (just call him Kaneda) is the leader of the Capsules. His biking skills are unrivaled, especially considering he is only 16 years old. He is a bit cocky, and completely hates authority in all forms. But he is 100% loyal to his gang and friends, and will do anything for some action too.   Once Tetsuo goes psycho, Kaneda has no choice but to help take him out.


Tetsuo Shima
Tetsuo Shima is the most inexperienced member of the gang, and is treated as a "baby brother" by the other members. After being abducted by the government and experimented on, he gains superhuman powers and rampages throughout the city, eventually being killed by Kaneda and a group of other superhumans.


Kaisuke
That's Kaisuke in the background, with the red tie. Everybody just calls him Kai. He is extremely short for his age, standing at only 5 feet. However, he is also one of the best Capsule fighters/riders. His best friend, Yamagata, is killed by Tetsuo, giving him good reason to help Kaneda try to kill Tetsuo.



Yamagata
This is Yamagata, the second-in-command of the Capsules (in the second pic he is driving the bike) He is very tough and a bit sadistic. He is unfortunately killed by Tetsuo because Yama gives him a hard time. This angers Kaneda and Kai, and gives them extra strength to try and kill Tetsuo.


The Capsules
The Capsules being interrogated at the police station. Kaneda looks wimpish because he is trying to decieve the cops. The tall guy in the center is Eiichi Watanabe, the guy in the green sweater is Mitsuru Kuwata, and the one with the striped shirt is Yûji Takeyama.

And finally, the Capsules' rival gang, The Clowns!


This is their leader, Joker. A druggie and ace mechanic, he is a pro at creating bikes from wrecked parts.

Chapter 1

  Kaneda rested against the wall, trying to sleep as the teacher droned on and on in the front of the room. His friends were scattered throughout the classroom, and Kaneda was all the way in the back. He was failing anyway, who cared if he had a quick nap? His eyes shut, and for a minute his mind turned to his girlfriend, Tima. He really wanted to break up with her, but the sex was good. He wasn't complaining- she knew he didn't really like her, and never spoke up. He dozed off to sleep.

  *WHACK*

  He awoke with a start, looking up through dazed eyes. He saw the teacher standing there, ruler in hand. "Shotaro Kaneda! What do you think you're doing?" Kaneda, p*ssed at the sudden awakening, sat back and crossed his arms over his chest. "Sleeping. What is it to you?" The teacher got angrier, and slammed the ruler down on the desk again. "Listen here, you little punk, I'm trying to teach a class here, either pay attention or get out!" Kaneda stood up. "I'll take option b." he said, walking toward the door leading into the hallway.

  The teacher stood there, seeting with anger. "GET BACK IN HERE!" Kaneda looked over his shoulder at his friend, Yamagata, who was smiling widely at the situation. "Come on Yama, let's get out of here." Yamagata stood, joined by Kai, another member of their gang. "YOU KIDS CAN'T DO THIS! GET BACK HERE!" Kaneda stopped in the doorway, turning back to face the teacher. "Hey, you told me I could do it if I wanted. Later, pops." He walked out of the room, slamming the classroom door shut behind him.

  He was relieved to be out- that was one major downside to being in the Vocational School- the staff was allowed to get as violent as they wanted with the students, resulting in many beatings for the Capsule members. "Wow, what was his problem? He usually doesn't hit us when we p*ss him off!" Yama said, walking down the hallway toward the stairs. "Eh, who cares, at least we're out for the day now." Kaneda looked at Kai, smiling. "That's right, and I say we have as much fun as we can! Let's get Tetsuo!"

  Tetsuo was in a math class now, on the first floor. Yamagata walked up to the door and opened it, the students inside looking over at him. "Tetsuo! Let's go!" Tetsuo looked over, smiling and standing up. The teacher was asleep at the desk, like usual. "Where are we going?" he said as he walked over to where Yamagata was standing. "Anywhere but this sh*thole!" He slammed the door purposely, awaking the teacher as they walked out of the building, into the parking lot. There they were, the groups' pride and joy- their motorcycles, all in a neat line on the east side of the lot.

  "I say we head down to Kizarasu, have some fun down there!" Kaneda said, walking over to his bike with his friends trailing him. "Yeah, but what about the Clowns? If they attack, it's only us four!" Tetsuo said, showcasing his nervous demeanor. "No problem, we can take them! Hell, I hope they do come after us!" Yamagata said as they reached their bikes. "Yeah, and besides, I've got a chain, I keep it on my bike at all times." Kai said, wrapping the chain around his hand as he started the bike. Kaneda started his last, throwing it in reverse and revving the engine.

  "We'll ride to the theater first. Last one there has to pay for dinner tonight!" Kaneda yelled over the roar of the engines. He then let off on the brakes, zooming out of the parking lot, the others trying to keep up. It would be hard, his bike was the best, customized for himself. It was too wild for anybody else that he knew of. Tetsuo's bike was pretty good, but it was sensitive- one crash and it was done for. Kai's was a Harley, while the others' were all street racing bikes. This gave him a serious advantage. Yamagata's was the second best bike in the gang, next to Kaneda's. He had spraypainted a shark's mouth on the front.

  They rode off to Kizarasu, right into Clown territory. The Clowns were their rivals, their mortal enemies. If they encountered each other, it would be hell.
