Fan Fiction Competition Round 1: Ajax88 vs. Luther828

Post by GramercyRiff99 »

Alright guys, using my random dice rolling algorithm, I have matched up the two of you to be competing in this first round. You know the rules from the other thread, but all you need now is a theme! For this first round, I have decided to make the themes the names of Bruce Springsteen songs. Remember, you can handle these themes HOWEVER YOU WANT. If you want to interpret them literally, go ahead. If you want to do something creative with them, you're also welcome to. Just note that I'm just using the title of the songs because they're strangely appropriate, you don't even have to listen to them. Just use the title to think up a story set in the Warriors universe. You also don't have to use the theme as the title of the story, so if you want to come up with a creative title, feel free to do so.

Without further adieu, your theme is... "Meeting across the river". Handle it however you like, and then post it in here when you're done.

The deadline is approximately one week from now, that being TWELVE NOON EASTERN STANDARD TIME (5 PM GMT, 9 AM PST) on June 24th. Note that you are encouraged to submit your entries before this, especially seeing as how it's in the middle of the day. I did this to avoid the obligatory "Do you mean 11:59 on the 23rd or 11:59 on the 24h or what?" questions that always pop up. If both people submit their entries before the deadline, I'll probably end up just judging them at that time, rather than having to judge six fics in one day later.

Good luck, competitors! I'm sure that, regardless of who wins and loses, I'll have some good reads ahead of me.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, feel free to comment on the stories in here even if you aren't a competitor. There's no such thing as too much feedback, after all.

I've done mine in short chapters if that's alright. This is the first chapter. There is more to come.
Meeting Across the River

Chapter 1: Face-to-Face to Death

Swan stared at Lucifer who was standing on the rusty balcony of the Hellfire’s hangout. His eyes started watering and tears rolled down his cheeks. The burnt and battered body of the loyal Warriors soldier, Cowboy, lay in a pool of crimson blood on the concrete ground. “Ha! Ha! Warriors! You thought you was so tough; bopping straight into Hell's Kitchen like that. You got my brother killed. Now you will pay. That piece of cowboy scum is just one step. Soon, all of ya motherf*****s will join your friend six-feet-under,” threatened Lucifer. Anger rose within Swan; he had loved Cowboy as a brother. Snow, Vermin and Cochise were standing behind him, pounding their fists and muttering curses under their breaths. All four of them marched at the hangout, hoping to rumble their way past all the Hellfire soldiers to get to their crazy leader. As they approached the old, rickety door, many huge, muscley, packed, men burst out. The Warriors jumped back and put their guards up. They had to wait for Rembrandt who was laying a big burner across The Morbid Angel’s hangout. The artist ran round the corner and into the street where the two gang’s were facing off in. He stopped in his tracks,”What the…” he stuttered.
“Men run!” Swan ordered his army. The four Warriors sprinted in the direction of the subway station, followed shortly after by Rembrandt, who was still a little bit shocked.

Chapter 2: Sending the Word

Rembrandt sat with his head buried deep inside his paint stained hands. His loud crying the only noise on the empty subway car. “Hey, Rembrandt, don’t be upset, man,” said Snow in a very subdued voice.
“ Yeah, dude. Cheer up. At least Cowboy went out fighting for his family,” added Vermin.
“ Don’t try and make it sound like a hero’s death! It was all my fault. S**t! Why didn’t I check if there were any more gangs in Hell’s Kitchen except the Morbid Angels? Why did I tell Cowboy to go and see what was in that f*****g building!” yelled Swan, breaking into tears.
“ It weren’t your fault, War Chief. Cowboy was just unlucky. Nobody was to know that another gang was gonna pop out at us,” explained Cowboy.
“ I guess so. Tomorrow, after we get some sleep, I want you lot to do some searching about these Hellfires. And about that fag who killed Cowboy,” ordered Swan. The Warriors nodded their heads. There wasn’t another word said till they got home to their hangout; where they told the rest of the family about what had happened to their brother.

“Last night, The Warriors went on a little trip down to Hell’s Kitchen. There was a gang called The Morbid Angels, new on the street. The Warriors had gone there to show The Angels who’s boss after they came to Coney and wrecked their operations. The Warriors artist, Rembrandt had gone to lay a big burner on their hangout while the others went to disturb the Angel’s big celebration party that was going on. On their way, Their War Chief, Swan, told one of his soldiers, Cowboy, to go see what was in an old, what seemed burnt, building. He walked in and the next thing his gang saw was his burnt body flying out the window. Swan had made a mistake. He should’ve known that The Hellfire’s were the gang in Hell’s Kitchen now. Lucifer, The Hellfire’s Warlord, was the one who wrecked The Warrior, doing it his special way. By fire! He is some crazy dude. Stay tuned boppers to see the latest going on between these heavy sets. Adios,” Swan sat listening to the smooth voice of the radio DJ, feeling the oh-so familiar feeling of wet tears rolling down his cheeks. “ Swan, we have some info,” shouted Cochise as him and Snow burst through the hangout doors
“ What ya got?” Swan asked
“ Well, according to Crazy Dave the Hobo down the road, Lucifer is the crazed brother of Luther, the dude who shot Cyrus,” replied Vermin.
“ And, he’s out for revenge on all the gangs who he thinks helped kill his bro,” said Cochise.
“ Including us!”
“ Look at this newspaper clipping,” Cochise handed over the clipping to Swan, “It’s showing the murder of a gang member; the one who told the Riffs it was The Rogues,” Swan looked down at the gruesome picture on the clipping. It was a burnt half-body. Underneath it read, “ GANG MEMBER BURNT AND BUTCHERED!!”
“ You’ve gotta be kidding me, no human being would do that. Crazy Dave don’t know what he’s on about. It’s probably a fake,”
“ No. Dave’s an old gang member that always knows what’s going down on the streets. He said Lucifer was the one who killed him,”
“F**K!!! We have to do something about this. Snow, Cochise, Vermin. Tell that Lucifer I want to meet him… Alone. Make sure that you come with and stay in cover; I know he’ll bring an army,”
“ Alright, I’ll go contact the radio,” said Snow.
“ No. I wanna make sure he gets it personally.
“ How shall we do it?”
“ You’ll think of something,”

Chapter 3: Lucifer Gets the Message

“ Hey come on baby. Show me some love, man,” nagged Lucifer’s girlfriend, Starr, as she lay in bed.
“ In a minute, I’m thinking,”
“ About your big plan; to avenge your brother,” she said in a mock voice.
“Shut up and be patient ya w***e!”
“ F**K YOU!! I’m leaving. I don’t like the way you treat me,”

“ Get back in here! If you’re gagging for it so much then I’ll give it to ya,” Starr got back into bed and let him climb on top of her. “ SMASH!” Lucifer looked up, accidentally elbowing his girlfriend in the face. A message tied to a brick lay there on his bedroom floor, surrounded by broken glass. It read, “ Lucifer, I want to settle this right now. You killed our brother and now it’s payback time. Meet me in Hell’s Kitchen, by the river in the park, tomorrow night at midnight. Come alone. We’re going to do this one on one. Bring one weapon of choice; anything except a gun.
Swan,”
“Stupid wimp. Ha! You killed OUR brother? He don’t know what it’s like to have your REAL brother killed. I’m gonna waste that a**hole!!”
“ Whats a matter, Lucifer?”
“ Nothing babe. Lets get on with it, hey?” Lucifer jumped back to bed and they got on with their little game.

Chapter 4: The Meeting

Swan stared into the dark, dirty water of the river. He looked at his scarred reflection; starting to regret about his decision to get into the life of a gang member. The reflection of his trusty switchblade, the one that struck Luther in the arm on that day at the beach, glimmered in the moonlight. Cleon had given it to him the night of the conclave one month ago. He told him to sneak it into the inside pocket of his vest; just in case.

Lucifer trudged to the river; five of his army in toe. He signaled to them, telling them to go hide in suitable places.  He also pulled out his favourite switchblade. It was the one Luther gave to him when he decided to make his own gang, after he got out of the mental hospital.

In a way, the two men were very similar. Both had suffered many grievances in their lives; Luther and his parents for Lucifer and Cleon, Cowboy and Fox for Swan. They both had control over their own gangs, but didn’t really like the lives they were living. Swan wanted to go away and so did Lucifer (after he had gotten all his revenge).

Lucifer stopped at the bank of the river; glaring crazily at his opponent. Swan glared back; anger blazing in his eyes. “ You wanna take me on? Huh, Swan? Well you’re as stupid as you look, then,”
“ Shut the f**k up and lets get this thing over and done with,” Swan dipped his boot into the water; seeing how deep it was. He risked it. And Lucifer, seeing it was fine, followed in suit.

Chapter 5: The Duel

Swan struck the first blow, kneeing Lucifer in the gut then hitting him with a mighty uppercut. He bent down to pick up his enemy’s groggy body from the water. But, Lucifer kicked up into Swan’s face, sending him stumbling backwards. He lunged at Swan with his switchblade; catching him on the shoulder. Swan yelped and grabbed his gash. Lucifer saw the opportunity and took advantage of it; throwing a punch to Swan’s cheek using his sparkling brass knuckles. An old wound on The Warrior’s left cheek opened up; causing him even more pain. Lucifer thought he had the upper hand and got rather cocky; showboating every time he hit. Finally, he decided to finish Swan off. He grabbed his blade firmly and targeted Swan’s face. But, in the nick of time, the underdog managed to find his knife and stuck it into Lucifer’s lower arm. Just like he did to Luther four weeks ago.

Chapter 6: The Getaway

Swan lay in the red-coloured water; blood pouring out his shot wound. The Hellfire’s appeared from hiding; giving their leader a bandage to hold onto his injuries. Lucifer had cheated; bringing a hidden gun.

Snow, Vermin, Cochise and Rembrandt came out to help their Warchief. They knew that the bullet had hit his stomach rather than his heart and hoped that he was alright.

Before the Hellfire’s left, they laid their own type of signature burner on The Warriors. Inferno, Lucifer’s right-hand man, lit his Molotov and hurled it towards Swan and his men. Luckily, they got his body out of the way in time. But they knew that Swan could die. And they knew that this war was not over.

This is the last installment. Hope you liked it! Can't wait to read what Ajax88 writes!

Ok, without further ado here is the first part of my entry!

****** EDIT***** Forgot to mention that this takes place 2 months before the Conclave, sorry about that

Part 1

Night had settled on New York City, the crisp air filled with the sounds of the city. Cleon stood on the roof of the Warriors’ hangout looking up at the night sky thinking about what life would be like if he was not in a gang. The thought quickly dashed from his mind as Cleon heard footsteps coming up the stairwell. He turned around in time to see Swan walk out onto the roof, Swan was Cleon’s second in command of the Warriors, and he was Cleon’s most trusted friend.

“Are they ready?” Cleon asked Swan

“Cowboy is out rounding them up right now. I have a good feeling about this bunch.” Swan said to his old friend.

“Well they have to prove they can bop. I don’t want anyone getting wrecked on my watch.” Cleon said as he and Swan both started walking down the stairs. They made their way through the Warriors’ hangout, which was an abandoned warehouse that used to house spare parts for the rides on Coney Island and finally walked out the side door of the building. Cleon looked around and saw a few Warriors hanging outside leaning against the wall. As soon as they saw him they waved to their Warchief. He nodded a greeting back and continued to follow Swan towards the back alley. There was already another Warrior there waiting along with three civilians.

“Are these the new recruits Cowboy?” Cleon asked looking at each of the new comers. The first one was tall and thin, with blonde hair, the one standing to the blonde’s right was short and stocky. Cleon could tell that this one could handle himself in a fight. The last one was about average height and had short black hair, he also had a good build to him and Cleon could tell that the third one would do just fine also.

“Yep” Cowboy responded. “This one here with the blonde hair is Elias, fatty over there is Lucas and the last one is Titus.”

“Ok, lets get this initiation started. You three are the newblood and your first test is to see how well you can bop. If any of you don’t think you can handle this test say so and Cowboy will escort you out of Coney.” Cleon said as he addressed the new recruits. No one stepped forward to decline Cleon’s offer.

“Alright then follow me.” Swan said as he started to turn around. The small group walked through a couple of alleys, along the way they ran into a couple more Warriors who Cleon asked to tag along. They finally came to a fenced in area. “This is where your initiation begins. Each of you will fight one of our Warriors one on one then we will move on to the second part of the test. Understood?” Swan asked.

“Yes sir.” All three recruits responded in unison. All three were nervous about the idea of having to fight a seasoned gang member for the initiation.

Cleon looked over at the other Warriors that he had asked to follow them to the small arena. These Warriors were a couple of his most loyal men, the trio was Vermin, Snow, and Rembrandt who was the youngest and newest Warrior. Swan pushed the closest new recruit into the fenced area and it happened to be Titus.

“Vermin, get in there and see what the new blood is made of.” Cleon said to one of the Warriors standing next to him.

“Sure thing Warchief.” Vermin said as he walked into the small arena.

Titus looked at the approaching Warrior and clenched his fists. Titus brought his fists up, as he watched Vermin come even closer. Vermin brought his fists up and slowly stepped closer towards Titus. Vermin swung first and caught Titus’ jaw with a right hook. Titus felt his face push to the side as Vermin’s punch connected. Titus regained his composure and readied himself again, this time he would be ready for Vermin’s next punch. Both combatants circled each other a few times and Vermin found another opening and swung with his left this time. Titus saw the punch coming and side stepped Vermin’s attack. Titus tackled Vermin from behind and both of them crashed to the ground. Titus started swinging punches one right after the other, the only thing Vermin could do was try to block Titus’s punches as best he could. Cleon could tell that Titus had Vermin beat and he didn’t want to see a friend get wrecked.

“Alright that’s enough young blood, you’ve proved yourself to me and the rest of the Warriors. Get over here and take a seat.” Cleon shouted across the arena. Vermin got up and slowly hobbled over to where the rest of the Warriors were standing, his face bruised and bloody from his bout with Titus.

“Jesus that kid is a maniac.” Vermin said as he sat down on the ground. “Did you guys see the way he just jumped on to top of me, I thought for sure that I was about to get japped there.”

“Alright cool it man, we still got two more that need to go through with the initiation.” Cleon said as he turned to face the other two newbloods. “ Elias I want to see what you can do against Rembrandt. Don’t go easy on him either Rembrandt, remember you are one of us now.”

“Ok Warchief, I’ll do my best.” Rembrandt said as he walked into the arena. Rembrandt hadn’t really gotten into many fights since he joined the Warriors. In fact the only fight he had ever been in was his initiation fight. He tried his best to keep himself from shaking with fear. He didn’t want to look weak in front of the rest of the gang so he took a deep breath and clenched his fists together mentally preparing himself for the coming fight.

Part two!!

Elias brought his fists up ready for anything Rembrandt could throw at him. He had been in a good number of fights before and he knew that this one wouldn’t be any different. Elias watched Rembrandt step closer to him, Elias could tell that Rembrandt was nervous. Rembrandt came at him all of a sudden quicker than Elias expected, he brought his fists up to block as Rembrandt drew back his right fist. Elias watched Rembrandt’s fist come at him and used his right arm to block his opponents punch. He quickly jabbed his left fist into Rembrandt’s exposed stomach and heard Rembrandt gasp for air. Rembrandt quickly recovered and threw a left hook at Elias’ jaw. Elias felt Rembrandt’s punch connect with his jaw and was instantly stunned. He hadn’t expected his opponent to recover so quickly and now he felt stupid for not preparing for it. Rembrandt hesitated for a second because he had never stunned an opponent like that before, but that few seconds of hesitation was Rembrandt’s first mistake. Elias recovered and came at Rembrandt like an angry bear. Elias started throwing punches left and right, most of them connected and Rembrandt was starting to be pushed back into a corner, he lost his footing and fell to the ground. Cleon could tell that it was time to stop the fight before his youngest member was wrecked.

“Ok you’ve proved yourself Elias. You’re a Warrior now.” Cleon shouted across the arena. Rembrandt looked over and slumped his shoulders, he was glad the fight was over. Elias reached out his hand to help the Warrior up, Rembrandt took it and slowly got up. He went over and sat down next to Vermin

“Boy that kid really knows how to fight huh.” Vermin said to Rembrandt

“You’re telling me, I wasn’t expecting him to come at me as fast as he did.” Rembrandt replied. “ I thought I was going to get wrecked”

“No man you did good, I don’t even think Ajax could have recovered from that kind of punch as quick as Elias did.” Vermin said to Rembrandt.

“Are you wimps talkin’ about me behind my back?” A voice came from the alleyway. Vermin and Rembrandt both looked up in surprise as a person stepped out of the shadows and walked over towards them.

“Cool it Ajax, they were just talking about the newbloods and how well they have done in the initiation so far.” Cleon said coming to Vermin and Rembrandt’s defense.

“Well why don’t you have them fight me then? I’ll show these wimps what it takes to be a Warrior.” Ajax said with a sly grin on his face.

“Just keep your mouth shut soldier.” Cleon said with a blank expression on his face. Ajax gave Cleon a quick look of anger but then hid it before the Warriors’ leader could see it. “ Lucas, you’re the last one, Cowboy you get in there and give him all you got.” Cleon said. Both Cowboy and Lucas walked into the small arena and were prepared to fight when Fox came running up the alley towards the small group.

“ Cleon!! We’ve got trouble, there’s a group of Panzers armying through our turf. I think they’re headed this way.” Fox shouted as he continued running towards them.

“Alright soldiers, get ready because we’re gonna hit them hard. This is our turf and nobody comes armying through here like that. Lucas, consider this your initiation, don’t get wrecked and you’re in. Cowboy you stick close to Lucas, Vermin give them all a vest, everybody understand?” Cleon said to the Warriors surrounding him. “Fox, you go alert the others I want to send a message to the other gangs that the Warriors have a heavy rep.”

“Yes Warchief.” Fox said as he took of sprinting down the alley to round up some more soldiers.

“Lets move soldiers” Cleon said as he readied himself for battle.

Part three

A group of Panzers were slowly making their way up the street, they were a small scouting party of about 10. Their mission was to see how powerful the so called “Warriors” were. They were dressed in their normal colors which consisted of a camouflage jacket over regular street clothes and they each wore a dark colored hat. They were confident that they would meet no resistance on this mission, in fact they heard rumors that the Warriors were nothing more than eight or nine punks who referred to themselves as a gang. Little did they know that there was ten of these so called “punks” that were hiding in an alley ready to rumble.

“As soon as they’re in sight we’re gonna pounce. Understand soldiers?” Cleon asked his small war party. “We’re gonna show them that we mean business.” The Panzers walked into view and the entire war party stepped out in the street meeting their adversaries head on.

“ You guys must think you’re real heavy don’t you. You come soldiering through thinking that we would just run and hide leaving our pride to be stomped on?” Cleon said loud enough so the whole block could hear. The Panzers stopped in the middle of the street, their confidence left them once they realized the danger they were in. “Warriors show these punks whose turf this is.” Cleon shouted as he led the charge into the group of Panzers. The other Warriors rushed into the group following their leader into battle.

Cleon went right after the leader of the small group. He brought his right arm up and clothes lined his opponent. Ajax was taking on the biggest Panzer while Vermin and Cowboy were busy fighting side by side against two Panzers. Cleon took a quick look to his right and saw Lucas on top of a Panzer who had fallen to the ground. Lucas was pummeling the unlucky Panzer with both of his fists. Swan had his hands clasped together and was swinging his arms like a club. One Panzer rushed at him but was stopped in his tracks when Swan swung his arms into the Panzer’s stomach. Swan quickly brought his arms up and slammed his fists into the back of his adversary’s head, instantly knocking the Panzer unconscious. A second Panzer came rushing at Swan and tackled the surprised Warrior. Cleon quickly rushed over to help his fallen friend. Cleon grabbed the Panzer’s shoulder and spun him around, Cleon then punched the Panzer in the face. The Panzer was stunned and Cleon used the opening to grab the Panzer’s head and brought it crashing down into his knee. The Panzer crumpled to the ground and Cleon held out his hand to Swan.

“Thanks Warchief, I wasn’t expecting that second one to jump me like that.” Swan said as he took Cleon’s hand and pulled himself up.

Swan and Cleon both looked and saw the two other newbloods taking on a Panzer each. Titus was blocking his opponent’s punches and was obviously not pouncing on his opponent when there was an opening. Titus finally got bored with his opponent and threw a right hook, it connected with the panzer’s jaw instantly dropping him to the ground. Elias was fighting like a madman, throwing punches left and right sending his opponent reeling backwards. All of a sudden Elias’ opponent spun around and started sprinting down the street. Elias was about to give chase when Cleon shouted.

“Let him go newblood, I want the Panzer’s to hear about this fight. I want them to know that we don’t play around.” Cleon said to Elias. At that moment Cleon hadn’t seen Snow. He turned around in time to watch Snow throw the remaining Panzer into a couple of trashcans that were sitting on the sidewalk, Cleon looked around and saw that all the Panzers had been wiped out and he let out a sigh of relief as he saw that all his soldiers were still standing.

“What a bunch of f****n wimps!” Ajax said as he looked at the group of Panzers sprawled across the street. Rembrandt walked out from an alley nursing his founds from his fight with Elias earlier.

“You okay Rembrandt?” Cleon asked, a look of concern on his face.

“I’m okay Warchief. I was a little lightheaded from the fight earlier.” Rembrandt replied.

“I’ll let it slide this time soldier, but next time there won’t be any excuses, understand?” Cleon said harshly.

“Yes Warchief.” Rembrandt replied with a look of embarrassment on his face.

“Ha-ha we really whooped those guys didn’t we?” Titus said to break the tension.

“You’re lucky you didn’t get wrecked this time Titus, next time don’t play around with your opponent, just waste him and move on to the next one. That goes for the rest of you too, I don’t want anybody getting wasted because of stupid games like that.” Swan said to the group.

“Yes Warlord, I understand.” Titus said while looking at the ground, his head hung in shame.

“Since you newbloods helped us out I’m going to go ahead and call this fight the end of your initiation. You three are now fully fledged Warriors.” Cleon said to the newbloods. At this time Fox came running out of an alley with Cochise right behind him along with a few other Warriors.

“Aww we missed all the fun, how come you guys didn’t save any for us? Fox asked jokingly.

“Come on soldiers, lets go celebrate.” Cleon said as the group headed back to their hangout.

Part 4 Its a really short part

“Okay Boppers, it seems as if we have a new report on whats going down on the streets. Apparently a group of Panzers tried to roll through Coney Island earlier tonight, but they received an unfriendly welcome from that real live bunch called the Warriors, sorry babies. This next hit goes out to those Panzers who tried to out muscle the home team.” The smooth silky voice of the DJ said as a small group of people crowded around a small radio.

“Listen up boys, I just got word from the Panzers. They have offered to pay us a good sum and a little bit of turf a few blocks from South Beach if we destroyed these so called Warriors.” A man said as he walked into the room. Everyone present turned and faced the newcomer as soon as they heard his voice. He was the biggest one of the group and everyone present knew who he was. His name was Apollo and he was the leader of one of the biggest gang in South Beach, the Sons of Apollo. He was dressed in full gang colors which consisted of a black bandanna being worn as a headband, and a black leather vest with an arrow piercing a red sun with the words, “Sons of Apollo” underneath it.

“How are we gonna do that Apollo, word on the street is those Panzers got wrecked real bad and that those Warriors don’t take s*** from anybody.” A short Sons of Apollo said.

“Those Panzers underestimated the Warriors, rushed right in without even thinking out a plan. I’ve got a better idea, I’m gonna take out their leader, I’ll invite him here to discuss an ‘alliance’ and when he least expects it I’ll shove a knife in his back. Then we’ll invade their turf, without their leader they’ll be lost and will fall quickly.” Apollo saidto his soldiers. Everyone in the room applauded their leader’s idea and they all began to get prepared for the coming invasion.

“Whoo those Panzers were weak man. Did you see that one I was fighting, I was like POW, BAM and then he dropped like a sack of potatoes.” Lucas said to Elias they were walking around Coney Island “ You know what, I’ve got an old girlfriend up in South Beach that I visit every now and then. I bet a couple of her friends are probably hanging out with her too, maybe you could bag one of them. Lucas said with a grin on his face.

“Man is that all you think about? Ha! Yeah I’m down with making a trip up to South Beach, that’s just across the river ain’t it?” Elias asked.

“Yeah man, all we gotta do is take the subway. C’mon lets go.”
Lucas said as the two Warriors headed towards the station.

Part 5

Three figures were standing in an alley next to the South Beach subway entrance. Each one wore a black leather vest that said “Sons of Apollo” on the back. Two of them were smoking cigarettes while the third was drinking from a bottle in a brown paper sack.

“Hey Malachi, when are we going to see some action? The one with the bottle asked.

"Chill Reamus, the boss wants us to stay outta trouble for awhile. He says he needs everyone of us if we are going to destroy these Warriors, so be patient.” The one called Malachi said. Malachi was the oldest one in the group, in fact he had been the one who told the other two about the Sons of Apollo. Malachi had been with the Sons of Apollo for almost a year and a half now and hoped to be made into a lieutenant one day. Malachi was also on good terms with Johnny, who was one of the Sons of Apollo’s lieutenants. Johnny didn’t really hang out with the other gang members, the only people he ever let visit him was Apollo himself, Carl who was the other lieutenant, and Malachi. It was rumored that Johnny had escaped from a mental institution when he was ten years old and had been on the run ever since. Because of this rumor it caused the other gang members to keep a distance between Johnny and themselves whenever he was around.

“Are you sure we could take these Warriors out, what I they got more soldiers then us? The third figure asked.

“That’s why we’re gonna take out their leader, then they’ll fall apart and won’t be as organized when we invade.” Malachi said “You know Angel, you shouldn’t worry so much. Apollo has it all planned out.”
At the same time Angel was watching two people coming out of the subway entrance. He looked at the vests they wore and read the backs of the stranger’s vests “Warriors” then it finally clicked in Angel’s mind.

“Malachi, look behind you, these two clowns that just came outta the subway. Look at their vests, they’re Warriors, what should we do?”Angel asked quietly.

“Lets follow them and see what they’re up to.” Malachi suggested. Al three Sons of Apollo slowly crept out of the alley and began to follow the unsuspecting Warriors.

Lucas and Elias both left the apartment building where they had spent the past two hours having a good time hanging out with Lucas’ old girlfriend and a few of her friends.

“Man those girls were pretty fly, especially that redheaded one. Those girls were really great, we gotta come here more often!” Elias said as they walked down the street towards the subway station. Both Warriors were oblivious to the three shadows that stalked them down the street.

“See I told you that we’d have some fun over here, now c’mon lets get back to the hangout before the rest of the gang misses us.” Lucas said to Elias, all of a sudden Lucas felt something heavy strike the back of his head, that was the last thing Lucas remembered before he blacked out. Elias saw his friend crumple to the ground and he spun around to face whatever was attacking them. The only thing Elias saw was a person in a black leather vest swinging a piece of wood at his head.

“Now what should we do?” Reamus asked.

“Lets take them to the boss, he’ll know what to do with these bozos.” Malachi said as he picked up Elias’ limp body and started walking back to the Sons of Apollo’s hangout.

Part 6

“ You guys did what!? I told you morons to not flex any muscle against anybody.” Apollo yelled at Malachi, Reamus, and Angel. “I oughta waste all three of you. Get outta my sight!” Apollo roared as the three gang members left trembling, thinking to themselves about how their idea turned out to not be so great after all, after they left a figure stepped out of the shadows.

“So what do you think we should do with these two Apollo? The figure said while pointing at the two Warriors lying on the floor still out cold.

“I don’t know yet Johnny, maybe we could use these guys for information on the location of the Warriors’ hangout. Apollo suggested. “Wait I have an idea, I’m going to use them to lure out their leader, we’ll hold them for ransom and when their leader comes thats when we’ll strike. Then we just dump the bodies and wait till they become disorganized, then we invade and take them out.

“It sounds like a good plan, only problem is how are we going to get a message to them?” A third person said as he walked into the room.

“We’ll get the location from these two and one man will have to go, it’ll be dangerous but it has to be done Carl.” Apollo said to the newcomer. “I want you to deliver the message Carl, I’ll leave Johnny to getting the info out and then we’ll send the message.” Apollo said, he noticed that Johnny had that sick grin on his face when he had mentioned leaving Johnny to getting the information out of the two Warriors, he knew how Johnny tortured their prisoners and he felt sorry for the two Warriors if they didn’t give it up right away.

“I’ll go ahead and take these two and I’ll start the interrogation.” Johnny said with a strange laugh. Apollo and Carl just watched as Johnny grabbed each Warrior by the arm and dragged them both out the door.

Lucas woke up in a dark room, he had no idea where he was, the only thing he remembered was something hitting his head. He tried to feel the back of his head but found out he couldn’t move his arms, they were tied behind his back and he looked at his feet and noticed that they were also tied. He struggled for a little while but finally gave up after becoming tired. He looked over and saw Elias next to him, but Elias was still unconscious and tied up just like Lucas. All of a sudden a door opened up and a figure stepped inside the room, the figure wore a black leather vest that said Sons of Apollo on the back, and a pair of dirty jeans.

“Who the h*** do think you are, let us go or you’re gonna regret this!” Lucas yelled at the figure.

“Oh I don’t think so Warrior, its you who should be regretting coming to this part of town.” The figure said. “ This is the Sons of Apollo’s turf and I want to know where your hangout is.”

“I ain’t telling you anything” Lucas said defiantly.

“Ok, if you wanna play that way I guess I will too, they don’t call me Crazy Johnny for nothing.” Johnny said with a grin on his face. Johnny went over to the wall and picked up a bat that was lying on the ground. He walked over and swung it as hard as he could at Lucas’ legs, Lucas cried out in pain as Johnny swung again and again, until both of Lucas’ legs were broken. Lucas’ screams woke Elias up and he watched as Johnny swung once a baseball bat at Lucas’ legs. Seeing that his fellow Warrior was in pain Elias tried to get up only to find out that his hands and legs were both tied up. He struggled for a bit but couldn’t break free. All he could do was watch as Johnny left the room quietly and watch Lucas’ roll over in pain.

“Lucas! Hold on man, just hold on.” Elias tried to comfort his fellow Warrior.

“Jesus, did you see what he did to me! He broke my legs, he broke my legs!” Lucas yelled. “ I didn’t give him any information though.”

“Where are we Lucas, and who was that guy?” Elias asked when he saw that Lucas had calmed down a bit.

“I don’t know where we are, all I know is that guy is called Johnny and his vest said Sons of Apollo, for some reason he wants to know where our hangout is.” Lucas said to Elias. “ I don’t want to die here Elias, I’m scared!”

“I know Lucas, I am too, I think our only chance out of this is to tell him what he wants, maybe they’ll let us go afterwards.” Elias suggested.

A few hours later Johnny came back into the room and stood over both Warriors smiling.
“So are you Warriors ready to play some more?” Johnny said

“What do you want from us? Whatever it is you want I’ll give it to you just leave Lucas alone.” Elias said to Johnny.

“I just wanna know where the Warriors’ hangout is. Thats all then I’ll leave you both alone.” Johnny said with a strange grin on his face.

“ Fine I’ll tell you where it is, just promise to let us go.” Elias said. Elias spent the next ten minutes telling Johnny how to get to the Warriors’ hangout and the whole time he felt like he had sold out his friends but he also felt that it was the only choice he had if he and Lucas wanted to stay alive. Johnny left the room when Elias was done and went to go see Apollo and Carl.

“Those pathetic wimps just talked, they told me everything we needed to know, I just wish they would have held out longer so I could have had some more fun.” Johnny said to both of his fellow gang members.

“ You did good Johnny, Carl I want you to deliver this message. Tie it to a brick and throw it through a window and then get back here as fast as you can.” Apollo said to Carl while handing him an envelope.

“Yes boss, I’ll get right on it.” Carl said as he left the room and started towards the subway station.

Part 7 the final part

Carl had gotten off the subway and was moving through the alleys of Coney Island, he had already avoided a couple of the Warriors’ patrols and had stayed in the shadows as much as he could. He found a brick and tied the envelope to it with his shoestring. He was about a block and a half away from where the prisoners had said the Warriors made their hangout. Carl heard footsteps behind him and hid behind the nearest trashcan. He watched two Warriors walk by, he thought about jumping them but quickly dashed the thought from his mind when he thought the whole idea through. Once the pair was out of sight Carl crawled out of his hiding spot and continued on his journey. He cut down another alley and found himself in front of a building that had “WARRIORS” spray painted on the side. He looked around for a window and didn’t see any so he walked around to another side until he found a good sized window. Carl looked around to make sure that there were no Warriors around and once he saw the coast was clear, he lobbed the brick towards the window as hard as he could. He took off running but he knew his mission was a success as he heard glass shatter. Carl ran as fast as he could ducking in and out of alleys while trying to avoid any patrols. He finally made it back to the subway entrance and sat down on the seat of a subway car with a sigh of relief. As soon as he got back to South Beach he was going to report the success to Apollo.

“Cleon was sitting with Vermin talking about baseball when the window next to him shattered as a brick came flying into the building. Cleon stood up and looked out the window but did not see the person who threw it.

“Cleon, theres a message on the brick, here take a look.” Vermin said while bending over to pick up the brick.

“Let me see.” Cleon said as he took the brick from Vermin. He untied the shoestring and opened up the envelope. He read the message and a dark expression came over his face. “Cowboy round up the others, we’re going to war! Cleon said throwing the envelope down and walking out of the room. Vermin went over and picked up the message reading it out loud.

“Warriors, I have two of your soldiers captured as prisoners, if you want them back meet me on the bridge leading into South Beach at midnight tonight, alone. Signed, Apollo, leader of the Sons of Apollo.” Vermin said out loud “ Who the heck are these dudes?” He asked himself as he walked out the same way Cleon had.

Cleon was standing in front of nine of his Warriors; Cowboy, Rembrandt, Ajax, Swan, Vermin, Fox, Snow, Cochise, and Titus.
“Listen, some punks over in South Beach kidnapped two of our soldiers. They want me to go alone, but I want you guys to hide in the shadows, I want you all packed and ready for action when I give the word. Swan you are coming with me, I don’t care what it said about coming alone they’ll just have to deal with it. When I give the word you guys are going to try and rescue our soldiers Swan and I’ll deal with their leader. Lets move out soldiers.” Cleon said to his Warriors as he started walking towards the subway.

Cleon and the rest of his group had gotten off the subway right before the bridge and they organized into two groups. Cleon and Swan would cross first and the other group would start ten minutes after Cleon and Swan left. Vermin had watched his leader leave with Swan and started counting down the minutes. After ten minutes passed the second group started across the bridge.

“Man I can’t wait to knock some heads once we get across this bridge.” Ajax said with a grin.

“Lighten up big guy, we’re not moving till Cleon give the word.” Vermin said to Ajax.

“Yeah man, we need to surprise these guys if we’re going to do this right.” Snow said to the other Warriors. The rest of the trip was made in silence, as the Warriors made their way across the bridge their uneasiness grew the closer they got to the other side.

As Cleon and Swan approached the other side he saw three figures standing on the road just on the other side of the bridge, he and Swan both walked right up to the figures.

“Were are my soldiers? What have you done and what do you want?” Cleon asked.

“Oh we don’t really want that much.” Apollo said. “Malachi, Reamus, Angel, bring them out here.” Apollo yelled. Three more Sons of Apollo appeared dragging two people, that were tied up, behind them. Cleon noticed who they were dragging and yelled.

“Lucas! Elias! Are you two alright?” Cleon shouted.

“I’m fine Warchief, but they broke Lucas’ legs. He’s a mess, don’t give these punks anything.” Elias shouted.

At this time the other Warriors had finally reached the other side of the bridge and had crept down to the same level that Cleon and Swan were on. They had managed to remain hidden and they waited till Cleon gave the word, silently watching as three gang members drug two of their fellow Warriors out from behind a building. Cleon looked at Apollo and said
“Look man I don’t know what you want, but if you’re going to waste my time I’m going to take my Warriors back and go home.”
Johnny all of a sudden pulled a knife out of his pants and charged at Cleon, Swan saw him coming and tackled the Sons of Apollo lieutenant, knocking the knife from his hands. Apollo came at Cleon and swung a few punches, they were easily deflected and Cleon saw a small opening and swung at Apollo’s head. The punch connected but it didn’t faze the other leader one bit. The other Warriors saw this all happen and jumped out from their hiding spots.

“Dump those two in the river, now!” Apollo yelled at Malachi and the others. Malachi quickly lugged Elias over to the river and lifted him up. Elias was screaming and thrashing as he could do nothing to stop Malachi from picking him up. Elias felt himself fly through the air and felt the cold water wash over him as he hit the water. He was still thrashing about as he began to sink. Reamus and Angel drug Lucas over to the same spot and they hefted him up on the ledge, Lucas could do nothing because both of his legs were broken, all he could do was scream as they tossed him into the river also.

“NOOO!! You b*****s are gonna pay for that!” Vermin yelled as he threw himself at Malachi. Vermin started swinging like crazy hitting Malachi with a fury that he had never felt before. Cochise came running at Angel and tackled him to the ground. He pinned Angel to the ground and began to pummel the Sons of Apollo member mercilessly. Ajax grabbed Carl by the back of his shirt and punched the lieutenant right in the nose instantly breaking it. He followed up with an uppercut and a left hook. Carl spun around and fell to the ground. Snow picked up a piece of wood and went to help Cleon. Anything that Cleon threw at Apollo had no effect on his opponent at all. Cleon was starting to get tired when Snow came up behind Apollo and smashed a piece of wood over the back of the gang member’s head. Apollo dropped to the ground unconscious.

“Thanks soldier, you did a good job there.” Cleon said to his fellow Warrior.

Johnny overpowered Swan and turned the tables by reversing the pin and now he was on top of Swan. Swan looked to his right and saw the knife right by him, he grabbed it and sliced at Johnny’s wrist. His attacker howled in pain and fell to the ground clutching his wrist. Swan finished him off with a couple of swift kicks to Johnny’s stomach. Rembrandt and Fox both tackled Reamus, Fox pulled Reamus up and held the gang member’s arms behind his back while Rembrandt began hitting the Sons of Apollo member. Fox let go when Reamus slumped forward. When the battle was over all the Sons of Apollo including Apollo himself were wasted. Cleon saw that Apollo was unconscious and decided to let him meet the same fate as his other two Warriors had. He picked up Apollo’s limp form and tossed him over the ledge into the river. The war was over and the Warriors left their opponents sprawled across the river front, they walked back across the bridge and got on the subway in silence. Cleon vowed to himself that day that he would never lose another Warrior like the two soldiers he had lost today. He looked back up at the night sky thinking again about how this meeting across the river had changed his thinking.

THE END

Re: Fan Fiction Competition Round 1: Ajax88 vs. Luther828

Post by GramercyRiff99 »

As those who have been watching the shoutbox may know, this one was the hardest for me to judge. I've read through both these stories several times over the last few days, and I think I'm finally ready to make a decision.
THE CRITIQUE
Luther828: That was awesome. I've read your fic several times, and I had a lot of trouble finding things to criticize. Other than the occasional spelling or grammar error, there is not a lot wrong with your fic. If anything, I'd have to say that you didn't do the voice of the DJ very well. It just didn't seem very Lynne Thigpen when I was reading it, but that is a VERY minor complaint. Other than that, everything was excellent.

Ajax88: Again, very little to criticize here other than tiny nitpicks. For one, South Beach is in Staten Island and the subway doesn't run there. That's just a realism nitpick that nobody except me would care about though, so it doesn't effect my judging at all. Also, we typically don't consider the word hell to be a swear on here, so you don't have to blank it out, just for future reference.
THE JUDGING
I really wish the dice had worked differently when I'd matched people up, cause this was a battle more suited to a final than the first round. Alas, chance is a cruel mistress, and we ended up with a very hard contest to judge. After over an hour of careful consideration, I have selected a winner.

Drumroll please!

*drumroll*

The winner is... AJAX88!

Sorry Luther828, I genuinely wanted to give both of you the win, and I would have if I could have, but it just doesn't work that way. As with the other competitors, feel free to put "I was a first round competitor in GramercyRiff99's Fan Fiction Contest" in your sig, formatted however you like. Good luck in whatever future writing endeavours you have, I'll be reading. Ajax88, you're on to the next round.
