Custom 6" Warriors: Swan

Post by Uriah »

I bought the whole 1st series of figures since I'd been waiting my whole life to get figures from this movie.  Like most of you, I was dissapointed that we never got the whole warriors crew - especially since they would have been easy to manufacture based on all the shared body parts (we were really just talking new head sculpts/tooling/molds).

The new series is OK IMO but because of the limited quantity and new format, it is being met with a mixed reaction and I question whether it will be finantially viable to last long enough for us to get all 9 Warriors this time.

As such, I'm passing on the new line and creating my own 6 inch series that will fit in with other action figure lines like Marvel Legends and DC Direct.  I think this is the only way I'll get all 9 and be happy. The figures will be plastic accept for their vests, which I'm making by hand from pleather.

I might do some rivals if I can find suitable parts but "The 9" are my priority.  I'm starting with either Swan or Ajax and hope to have one done by Monday.  I'll post pics when complete.

Wrestling figures are cheap to pick up and not a bad starting point to practice on.
I like how the second mezco series has interchangable body parts. I thought these would be easier to customize than series 1.

Swan Pics!

Swan is complete - let me know what you think...

He took about 10 hours start to finish. The real work went into making the head, sculpting the hair and of course, the vest.  Not totally movie accurate but close enough to make me smile when I look at him.  I'll probably give his vest some buttons eventually.

I have the vest pattern down now so that should cut a little time out of the process on the rest of the gang - still about 1-2 hours of work for each vest though.

I figure I can knock out 2-3 Warriors a month so I should have all 9 by Oct/Nov at the latest - but I'm in no rush, this time getting all 9 Warriors on my shelf is garaunteed.  Next up... Ajax

Finally, a warriors figure with proper colors

I used these wrestling figures to try making an Ajax a few years ago, but scrapped it when mezco released its first official line.  The figure I used was the american badass version of undertaker.  He already has the black tank-top and fingerless gloves (you can apply a bit of heat to the fingers so they bend shape and make it look like he's flipping the bird).

Good work. =D>

Thanks for the feedback bros.  I'm really happy with how he turned out.  I have pics of him posted on some custom figure boards and he is generating a lot of heat.

Ninth Delegate, Did you use Toybiz wrestlers or Jakks?  Got pics?

I thought about going the Jakks route because it would be an easy way to get base bodies quickly but I really like the slim build of the figure I'm using (gold star to anyone who can guess who it was) - and the wrestling bodies tend to be super buff.  Compared to my other 6" figures, Swan looks like his proportions are closer to reality (smaller musculature, larger head) and that was important to me.  I'm looking for an even trimmer body style to do Fox, Cowboy and Rembrant.

Uriah:  This is the version of undertaker figure that I used as my starting point.
