Re: leather piping
Had to use a retractable tape measure from the good ol' toolbox to get this, so there will probably be a small margin of era for the tape twisting at angles.
For the medium size, I ended up with a total of 173 inches (whatever that is in yards). Add a bit extra for extending pocket to a point.

Re: leather piping
So if we round up to 180 inches (for overage) that equals about 5 yards per vest. I will elt you all know how much 5 yards will be. I will sell them in the pack needed for the vest.

Re: leather piping
My second vest arrived today (thanks, Tricender). The newer size large is identical in size to my old A1 medium. 5 yards should be a safe estimate for the piping for an average sized vest.

Re: leather piping
Having looked closly at the screen grabs on this thread and the one's in the link from Godfather, and also the close up of the auctioned movie vest, I can see the two dots between the diamonds. Are you still thinking of making the piping dotless or going the more complicated movie accurate route?
The dots look smaller than the ones on A1 vests. You can see them on that pic of Cleon. Look to the right hand side of the vest (our right, not Cleons), and focus between the diamonds underneath the button holes. They're definatly there.

Re: leather piping
I was making 1/8" die cut circle not a triangle. My problem is that my factory can only make a yard at a time and not a continous 5 yards we need. I can do five differnt pieces. Right now it is $35 for 5 yards of th piping. This is just for the black diamond cut piping (about 1 yard strips) with the die cut circles. I would be going off of 4niks drawing and the close-up that ninth posted. Before I make a sample (which costs me $$ but I would eat that cost) I need to know if anyone would buy it for this price and this way you would get it (not a continous roll). So let me know.

Sample of piping coming from my factory in Hong Kong. Should have it tomorrow to scan and get your comments.

Re: leather piping
looks good but...
shouldn't the diamonds be more spaced out?
how much?

Re: leather piping
That is why I am asking for comments. I can see that there should be a little more space between the "diamonds". Question is, how much more?? It will be $35 for 5 yards which is what is needed for a full vest.

How much space is there now?LIER ONE wrote: Question is, how much more??
in my sketch, i had 3/8 "...
it's odd, seeing the piping alone, not stitched down...

Re: leather piping
Right now it is about 1/4". I can revise it. My factory never gets it correct on the 1st submit. I would like to know anything else to change. Just an FYI, they cannot do one continous long piece. They will be 2 feet 8 inch strips.
