Was the p&p high on the patch?  My patch (excluding postage) was under $40.

an acrylic paint mixed with water would smell less than tea stain...

wait...

after staining, it's heavily oiled, so there's no smell (especially since i didn't use Earl Grey!!)

Besides, I'm fairly certain that the paint is stinkier!

Nah, the paint is odourless.  Another option for vintaging the white skull is to ground some charcoal into powder and dab it onto the patch with a peice of toilet paper (apply sparingly) and rub it in.  This method is NOT weather proof though.
