refraction of light on the camera lens from when the camera flash bounced back from a reflective portion of the vest orb!

thank you! well the vest was around $10, but the patch was around $70 so not exactly cheap, but better than buying a pre-made vest on ebay

I would be leery of using the tea-stain technique, as you could lose the vital contrast of the pale yellow lettering against the white skull...

wait...
after staining, it's heavily oiled, so there's no smell (especially since i didn't use Earl Grey!!)
Besides, I'm fairly certain that the paint is stinkier!

Nah, the paint is odourless. Another option for vintaging the white skull is to ground some charcoal into powder and dab it onto the patch with a peice of toilet paper (apply sparingly) and rub it in. This method is NOT weather proof though.
