Thomas G Waites

Post by union_jack »

Of course he was the only face I knew coming to The Warriors - he played Windows in one of my very favourite horror films The Thing (1982)

in which he has a fate possibly worse than in The Warriors - but over time I've noticed he does a great job of standing out in the film from such limited screen time.

I guess though, of course he would have been cast as one of the biggest stars of the film with the original story line focussing on him strongly, as Mercys love interest, and it seems to me he gives one of the best performances. I watched the film last night for the first time this year and having watched The Thing recently obviously spent a lot of attention on Waites. I'm sure we'd all like to see how the film would've played out if Waites had stayed on the project. I imagine it would have made him a bigger actor. Does anyone know what really happened with him and Hill? Given that he's killed off, uncredited and seems to have lost some screen time in the opening its seems a little severe. I know that they reconciled and everything and i obviously saw what Hill said on the matter in the UDC interview but its still mysterious

As a side note anyone see him in McBain with Christopher Walken? oh dear oh dear..

check out his acty card http://www.imdb.com/media/rm914460672/nm0906640

I'm paraphrasing from memory, but from Thomas himself (at the "aught-nine" Conclave):

"I was young... and STUPID! I just had a bad attitude, almost the whole time."

He cautioned any young hopeful actors in the audience to learn from his error!

Said he, even the very fact that his vest was buttoned was a part of the problem!

Early on, he noticed that everyone else had their vests open, so he thought if his was closed, he'd stand out. Soon enough, he changed his mind and wanted to be like the rest, but was told that he couldn't, as it would affect continuity!

This one little event resulted in a big blow-up!

Also, very interestingly (but not surprising given SAG rules), the decision for Thomas' name not appearing on the film was entirely his own, done out of spite, and anger!

"Learn from my errors!", he again cautioned.

4nik8, nice 1st post in this topic! I could bet that he would be even better in his part if they didn't have to "kill" his character. I know he's good actor, I've seen him in some movies, especially in OZ.

Now when I've watched all seasons, here a short info about his character...

SPOILER!!!

"After a year at Unit B, Henry Stanton started to fight with Irish rapist Patrick Keenan. After sometime, Ryan O'Reily killed Keenan.

After a fight with Jaz Hoyt, Stanton was sent to Protective Custody, where he befriended Cyril O'Reily, who started to tell Henry about Ryan's behavior.

Out of Custody, Stanton tried to become a friend of Cyril, but again Ryan ordered him to disappear. Then, Ryan paid inmate Martin Montgomery to tell Warden Leo Glynn he saw Stanton killing Keenan. Stanton was interrogated and thrown in the hole. When he got out, he asked O'Reily who lied to Warden Glynn. Ryan told him that Montgomery did it. Angry, Stanton got a pencil and stabbed Martin in the neck, making him unable to talk. Henry was then thrown into solitary where he remained for the duration of the season.

When the solitary evaluations came, Stanton told Claire Howell that if she vouched for him, Stanton will allow her to use him for sex. Instead the inmates and him were watching (particularly Greg Penders) and listening to Howell and Carlos Martinez. Upon hearing the act Stanton says 'having sex. Looks like he needs to make a phone call'. Stanton replied with disappointment. At the solitary evaluation hearings, Stanton told the board that he should be released because Montgomery didn't even die, he just can't sing no more. Glynn rolled his eyes and seeing that Stanton is harmless, Henry was released. He joined the theater group at the play MacBeth playing the Third Weird Sister, almost came to blows with Poet and Reggie Rawls, and complained to lawyer Tobias Beecher that the COs were making him work with pain on the back. After Glynn's death, Stanton told Tim McManus that Lionel Kelsch was talking that he killed Glynn."

Jaz Hoyt (Evan Seinfeld) used to train with me at a local gym in Brooklyn. I turned down a semi-serious offer to audition for his band, as it was not really my style - that band was Biohazard

Huh! I know Evan too! How funny? How long ago did he semi-seriously ask you to join Biohazard? Have you heard his new band, Attika 7? They're pretty good!

I've browsed a few blogs and reviews of the warriors over the past months, and some of the replies to them reveal a few snippets of info. Take this with a bit of salt. 1 guy claims he worked with Thomas in the mid eighties in a theatre production. He asked him why he quit the Warriors. Apparently Thomas wasn't happy about Walters decision of making Swan the love interest for Mercy and was pissed that his name would no longer get top billing. The argument supposedly ended up with he and Walter throwing punches.
Make of that, what you will.
