'The Gangs of New York' - you're not asking about how many gangs were in 'Gangs of New York'? are you?

if you mean in The Warriors, look here: http://warriorsmovie.co.uk/gangs/

i think there's about 10ish main ones that actually rumble.

let's see, Slaughter Housers, Natives, Dead Rabbits, Pug Uglies, there were 2 called something Guard (like north guard & south gaurd or something).

http://www.herbertasbury.com/gangsofnewyork/ - here's a site with the true story. apparently

The gangs with headquarters in the heart of Five Points were the Forty Thieves, Kerryonians, Shirt Tails, Plug Uglies, Roach Guards and Dead Rabbits,O'Connell Guards, and Atlantic Guards. The Bowery Boys and American Guards

Thats my Finding so far.

I'll be honest the opening sequence of Gnags of New York beats anything in the Warriors. Overall the Warriors is better, but man, that first ten minutes.....

I know its because its more Bloodier and violent but then it gets into the gang poltics part and loses itself.

The first fight is the only good one

I didn't mind the gang politics in Gangs of NY, I just thought that any and all scenes with Cameron Diaz forced the movie to grind to a halt. I wish they would've left out any attempts at adding "love story" elements, and just made it a tough, badass fighting movie. Also, Leonardo DiCaprio should NOT be in films where his character is required to speak with an accent.

Yeah like I said I liked the first part a lot, simply because it's just so contrary to how civilized we as a nation think we are. Yeah the rest of the movie kinda lost itself, Butcher Bill was a great character, and now Daniel Day Lewis totally owns my soul, but Leonardo DiCaprio wasn't good for a role like that, Cameron Diaz's role both sucked and had no reason to be in the film, and they didn't rumble in the end either. THAT was the movie's biggest letdown.

I mean, in the beginning they show Leo grown up, then like some punk he tosses his bible over the bridge into the water. I thought he'd be some nihilistic Clint Eastwood type of character, or atleast live up to Tuco standards, but nope. Oh well...

it's cool how Scorcese isn't afraid to experiment with new-wave techniques and alternate types of music.

Oh yeah, D.Day Lewis was incredible in this movie. It makes me think they should find some role for him in the remake of the Warriors.
