With this is mind will they rebuild New Orleans or will it just become a ghost town.
I must say I find it unbelievable how ineffective the response from the USA government has been. Justed watched a news reports where they interviewed an couple in their 70's who are living in a car and not eaten for 3 days.
Yes it was terrible, and now finally they are getting food and water starting to be distributed, and relocating people.
I wonder how you look around and realize you don't have anything left?? Takes tremendous courage to deal after that type of thing.
And the fact that without special "flood" insurance, most regular homeowner policies do NOT cover flood damage.
All the people interviewed/in authority say that while rebuilding is going to take years maybe into decades---rebuilding will be starting as early as today in places. So New Orleans is not going to die---not if the people down there have anything to say/do with it. They all seem to say they are going to keep on keeping on.
Hopefully they have the looting/violence under control now, and people can acutally start accessing the damages, and seeing where they are both financially and physically. So horrendous even watching it, is still hard to comprehend.

hey Mike,
i just replied to you in the off topic section, but i'll reply again here! i wish you could go slap my 'boss' around! she's a racist that thinks everyone is below her. she makes me sick!! i don't know how things are going to go this year, but if i don't see her during the day, things tend to go well at work. i go hide out in my room and go to the office only when absolutly necessary!!!
i'm doing some hurricane preparedness today. there's 'katrina' out there in the gulf and it just may make it's way up here by monday. they've already started evacuating the lower parts of the state. the lines to the gas stations are 20 cars deep, as well as the store check outs. we have plenty of canned goods but i should go get some more bottled water and cold drinks. i will go late tonight, around 1:00 AM, there won't be many people out then. we just got a generator a couple months ago so we will have our fridge working, a window unit, TV, and hopefully i will be able to run my laptop off it! the worst part about these storms is when you lose power, (besides losing your roof or house). just sitting in the hot, dark house with nothing to do is really messed up.
i was going to go shopping for warrior figures today. i was going to go to stores and see if i can scarf up on a bunch of the figures. i know they will be cheaper than buying them on e-bay. after war chief's problems w/ mezco, i'm leary of ordering them from their web site. it would be great if i could find an untapped store w/ a lot of the figures. i think i'd sell them to the members here, rather than do the e-bay thing. i know i'd make a lot more money but there are some people here that are really nice to me (like you ), and i'd like to see that they get them at cost.
well, enough of my blabbering on. i better get some work done!! take care darlin', i'll keep ya posted on the storm if it heads our way.
hugs,
di

Tried to give the devil my soul...
She said i had nothing to bargain with...
Oh no way SHM!
That preperation just could not have estimated the force of those winds.
Seriously worried now, I was hoping she made it out of town but now i find she stuck it out.....they're all being airlifted out and there is no way we will find out any time soon if she's doing ok.
I know a lot of you know her very well and converse on a ultimatly personal level, my thoughts are with both you and her.
I really feel concerned and upset at the images I see on the TV...but even more sorrow experienced when it happens to one of us from this most outstanding community.
Another webfriend of mine from Louisiana, finally got back on line, she was one that was in a hotel for awhile, and now is transferred to Dallas--and is in a hotel there, and they had internet, she said she is thankful to be somewhere where there is water, food, plumbing, and AC readily available.
Said she is counting her blessings, but would like to go home, and is not even too sure she has a home to go to. I didn't even dare ask about her pets, she had a bunch of dogs. It is too scarey to think about very much.
SIGH--I hope Warriorchick can check in soon with someone!!!
