Bring on the special edition DVD!

Post by SnowJackal »

I'm hoping that Paramount is smart enough to realize the demand for a special edition. Granted I was thrilled when it came out on DVD, but only one trailer as an extra?! Why not have commentaries, cast and crew info, documentaries, interviews, remastered soundtrack, photo stills, artwork, newspaper articles. I would love to listen to Michael Beck, James Remar, and Deborah Van Valkenburgh chat for an hour and a half, not to mention the entire cast too, I'm sure they aren't doing much. And would it be too much trouble to have some decent boxart? I was pleased to see 'The Warriors' made Entertainment Weekly's list of top 50 cult movies at number 16, but I thought for sure it would crack top 10. Still, that should be reason enough for Paramount!

Warriors special edition DVD

Post by StevenFallonNYC »

Unfortunately it seems that Paramount definitely does NOT have a 'heavy rep' for DVD releases with lots of extras, they seem to specialize in bare bones releases for the most part. They have to learn that part of the DVD experience is, after all, the extra features.

I also hate it when the "special features" on a DVD are "widescreen," "theatrical trailer," "subtitles," etc. To me these are just normal features of most quality DVDs.

Truthfully given the fact that Paramount doesn't show me much with their DVD releases, it's amazing that The Warriors have a really nice cleaned up print. For that I guess we should be greatful, but c'mon. If there's ever a movie deserving of a 'special edition' this is it.

What would be best is if the movie would be released by The Criterion Collection. Their discs are usually full of extras and many come with 2 discs. You can visit their website and request movies you'd like to see them release. Of course I requested The Warriors about 2 years ago but the more people voice an interest the better.
