warriors special edition dvd differences?
Hi ya, just wanted to say, there seems to be a difference between the American version of the warriors special edition and the English special editon dvds.
The american one only seems to have (as listed) just:
the trailer, 4 production featurettes, introduction with Walter Hill, 1 deleted scene and a better cover than the english one, where as the english one seems to have alot more (also as listed), Audio commentary from director Walter Hill
7 deleted/extended/re-edited scenes
'The Warriors - An Introduction': an on-camera intro by director Walter Hill about the new version of the film
'The Beginning - From Novel To Screen': conversations with novelist Sol Yurick, screenwriter Walter Hill and the producers discuss the challenges of getting the film made at Paramount
'The Battleground - Casting The Warriors': Walter Hill, cast members and others discuss casting, rehearsals and more
'The Way Home - Making The Warriors': Walter Hill and the producers discuss the making of the film, the production design, cinematography, locations, costumes, stunts, editing and more
'The Phenomenon - Releasing The Warriors': Walter Hill and others discuss how the film became a cult classic, and the animated cover.
Just wondered if there was a reason for this?
Maria.

yes if thats the case...ill be going over seas for the REGION 2 disc instead of the REGION 1 (usa). i feel you should have WALTER HILLS running commentary.
DOLE..please post a reply when you find that the region 1 and region 2 are different.
anybody intersted, you can buy a MULTI-REGION DVD player easy now (and cheap) i recently found another one (i now have two players) at a K-MART..think i paid like $30 bucks for one...they play fine.
this will be a must if THE WARRIORS region 1 and 2 DVDS are different..
does anybody know if both regions have the same release date 10/4?..
they usually come out at different times..i hope not

the American DVD has the same featurettes (The Beginning, The Battleground, The Way Home, The Phenomenon) as the UK version. I am not saying I own the UK DVD but the titles of the featurettes are the same.. we also have a Walter Hill introduction saying why he changed the movie into the "comic book" format.. there are no deleted/extended scenes in the DVD but they did only show a brief alternate opening of Cleon with his girlfriend on the boardwalk, introducing each member of the Warriors in broad daylight - that scene is shown inside the "The Phenomenon" featurette.
what's left for the UK version is the audio commentary and the 7 deleted/extended scenes.. but i believe they are just re-edited scenes which they change the film into a cartoon.. i think i collected all 7 scenes.. i will check on that later tonight.

here is what i promised about the cartoon scenes in the movie - it begins with a cartoon and fades into reality and back. In the end, it fades to a cartoon and remains there until the ending credits are almost over, it fades to black. Below is a list of those cartoon scenes:
1. Greek opening / new image of the gang / then to Wonder Wheel
2. Rembrandt in graveyard / new image of Gramercy Riff's home / new image of Riff's front door / new image of elevator press button
3. Luther after saying "For what?!?" / Swan looking up buildings where Orphans are
4. Cochise, Vermin, Rembrant escapes to train / Ajax, Swan, Snow Cowboy looks on / Baseball Furies leader
5. Cowboy and Snow looking on to Ajax's arrest / police cars / Swan walking alone to 96th St. station
6. Rembrant's arm is cut / Vermin and Cochise care for Rembrant / Swan inside Union Square station
7. Mercy sitting after the prom couples left / new image of the morning sun / Wonder Wheel and rest of the park in the morning / Stillwell Ave station / moving cartoon train arriving to a stop on Stillwell Ave station
8. Warriors on the beach walking away to the end / Credits roll
i just realize this now - the only cartoon scene that moves is the train moving to a stop on Stillwell Ave station near the end.. the rest of it are still images, just like how you read a comic book... the only new scenes that aren't in the original film is the Riff's home and the front door, and the elevator button. Also for the opening scene showing the Greeks fighting in the war, and a new Warriors gang showing faces of Rembrant, Snow, Swan and Mercy. there are other 2 faces but they are not familiar with the movie's characters (even they act like part of the Warriors gang) at the near end, when the morning sun appears, it looks completely new image to me too. therefore there are 6 new cartoon images in total.
i do have all the screen captures of all these images stated above, but i don't want to ruin the whole surprise for those who do not have the DVD - to be honest with you all, viewing the movie in person is better than looking the screen captures. the only cartoon i like is the Wonder Wheel opening scene cuz it looks very Sin City-ish...

The featurettes on the DVD are done in comic book style (comic backdrops with comic font subtitles).
The one and only!

"moving cartoon train arriving..."
...and that's where I get off with this new "ultimate director's cut".
Maybe it's cooler when watching it but it sounds crap. They are just trying to needlessly update a classic in the Sin City/Kill Bill style and it's sad. What's next? The Godfather...?? There's NO way Walter Hill originally planned it this way back in '79. I don't believe it.
grrrrr.....
