Pretty horrible as the Warriors busting out of the station and seeing the Furies is one of my favorite scenes.

Mine too! Everything about it is perfect. The editing, pacing and the big reveal of the furies and the music building... It was perfect.
And they blew it...
I'll show you how I play

This is not a good week for Warrior fans. First we get the news of Tony Scott's lame ass vision to turn The Warriors into Escape From LA 2006, and now this.

How can you release a DVD with commentary & deleated scenes in one region & nothing in another. I'm not even gonna comment on the comic book crap. I would have happily bought the dvd for the deleted scenes alone and just continue to view the entire movie on the dvd I already have.

Oh well, at least the video game still looks promising.

OK Let's not panic! R2 is not available yet and has been rumored to be great. But, If not, then for me, this dvd purchase will be about the interviews and documentaries. On my first visit to this site I read, and agreed, that there has been painfully little written about the making of this movie from the point of view of the cast and crew. I'm excited to look into that experience and learn something that has yet been unavailable anywhere. Let me further say, I will not watch an altered version of the movie. I've seen all the deleted scenes and love them. But that's why I enjoy them. They're not easy to find and unless you really care you won't. The one scene I would like to see, because I never have, is the cops racing toward the beach after the Riff/Rogue/Warrior reunion. But as far as watching the full length movie, my "regular" DVD gives that experience nicley. The "missing" scenes are better, for me, in isolation.

since i put my DVD in my PC - i took some screen caps and piece them all together in case anyone wants to see how it looks in the cartoonish way of the movie.. there are several so i already made the baseball furies scene, so i will upload in my site sometime soon... there are lots of other things i want to do in photoshop.. (gotta love it!)

to be concluded..

here's the description of the screen caps from the movie so you can understand what is the real difference from this version over the old theaterical version.

pic 1 - after the warriors escapes from the cops into the subway, the train leaves and suddenly freezes..

pic 2 - the pic fades into a cartoonish scene with a quote "They escape, but..."

pic 3 - the "page" turns over the scene and reveals a cartoonish Ajax with a quote "Holy Shit!!!" (there is no voice-over to hear the comic quotes.. FYI)

pic 4 - the camera zooms out and floats over the images of the Warriors and slides across to the right.......

pic 5 - ..........and onto the next pic is the Baseball Furies in the cartoon form

pic 6 - the pic fades into reality.. after the cartoon drawings disappears, the Fury begins his motion by swinging the bat.

Image

what do you make of this? i shrunk the images smaller to save space.. but when the cartoonish images are larger, they look great. what do you think? i can post more if you want.... (my favorite is the Wonder Wheel opening at night, that cartoon reminds me of Sin City type of comic)

Personally I think it is total rubbish. Like Dave said all that excitement of the 4 Warriors coming out of the station until Ajax lowers his head and looks is gone??? Unexcusable. And I am not just saying this because of my avatar!! I don't think I am in the minority here..am I? Nice avatar anyway, joepal.

WOW all I can say is I am freaking VERY DOWN and DEPRESSED about everything I am reading here today. I agree this could have been the most damn AMAZING special edition DVD going and it's been turned into a joke. Oh MAN I am depressed. What do the actors this about all this I wonder???

Dave sounds like you definitely know your foreign DVDs. I am actually looking forward to Titanic, it's actually one of my fave films. But I was pissed when I read we'd get one less disc here. WHY??? I don't know, it just seems like Americans are shortchanged with a lot of media releases. Kind of like how for some reason on many CDs, the Japanese release has another song or two.

TIRED OF THAT CRAP. But yeah I'm definitely gonna get the R2 player if The Warriors is better on R2. No darn doubt about it. And then get all the DVDs I want that aren't here. Like Star Crash!! :)

But yeah, this isn't "The Director's Cut," this is the "comic book crappy cut." A "director's cut" is usually what the director would have liked to have been released, but the studio insisted on various changes (like trimming the length, taking out some gore or sex, etc). I refuse to believe this comic book crap is what the director wanted to release. They're just messing with something that doesn't need fixing.
Big Cyrus. He was gonna run the whole city...what crap that was.

So how many releases are there at this point? Just the Original and the Director's Cut, or have I heard of one more? Anyone mind helping me out here?

Should've payed attention, it seems...

joepal wrote:got the R1 director's cut DVD last night.. i was surprised to see the comic-book intro opening and a few comic-book intermissions in the whole movie and a comic ending (no live action showing the Warriors walking on the beach when the credits roll) and a couple of "turning pages" in a comic format when it changes from one scene to another.. also i noticed there are some "zoom-ins" or "zoom-outs" in some certain scenes to enlighten the mood.. for example, when Luther aims the gun at Cyrus - the scene zooms out slowly.. and when Luther looks at Fox, the camera zooms in closer to Fox face when he stood there watching what Luther has done..

no deleted scenes here.. only 4 featurettes, some are interesting - some are not.. but they did add the opening with cleon and his girlfriend but they didn't show the whole part of it..

watching the new version of the Warriors is like watching Creepshow and i like Creepshow better than this "new" Warriors.

the new 2nd opening scene with the Greeks.. i think it should be left out.

that just killed me right there
pic 1 - people walking on the beach, when the waves crashed into Vermin and Cochise, the screen freezes...

pic 2 - screen fades into a cartoonish pic.. (this beach scene reminds me of Creepshow's episode "Something To Tide You Over") and then it zooms out...

pic 3 and 4 - then it pans over to the right, showing the quote "The End" and it didn't zoom into the pic. when the "The End" fades, the end credits roll.. nothing is in motion.. I prefer the original ending cuz I like to watch the Warriors walking off to the distance..

Walter Hill has just made The Warriors into a kids movie. Sacrilege.

Lets hope he returns to his senses soon.

I've just cancelled my R1 order. Fingers crossed for R2.

if any DVD in my collection that i want the DIRECTORS CUT/COMMENTARY it would be the WARRIORS.
just seems to me, that sooner or later we will see yet another version of THE WARRIORS will all the exras we hoped for.
perfect example..i cant tell you how many times i bought the vhs & dvd of OLIVER STONES JFK..reg pan and scan shit version, vhs widescreen version, dvd widescreen, dvd special addition, dvd srecial edition/directors cut...it never ends.
worse come to worse..do what i do.

if a new version comes out again take the older one send it back to PARAMOUNT HOME VIDEO..and complain.."how many times am i gonna have to buy my favorite movie of all time".." why didnt you release this version the first time?"
if you present this to the manufactorer, they will send you "the newsest release" to replace the old one...ive done it many times, and it works.

and as we all know, there is probably 15 to 20 minutes of outakes..
CONEY ISLAND INTRO
WARRIORS WALKING TO MEETING IN BRONX
MORE SCENES FROM RIFFS INFORMANT
MORE SCENES AT UNION SQUARE BEFORE PUNKS FIGHT IN MENS ROOM

the DVD pakage is not complete in my book , without all these outakes and HILLS commentary...but i guess il;l still be buying it come 10/4.
and ready to send back to PARAMOUNT once yet, another version comes out!

come on PARAMOUNT how mant times am i gonna have to purchase this great movie again..im going broke for christ sake!

"hey...how about the money you owe?"

"FOR WHAT!!!!!" chucks HERSHEY BAR (DVD)
