SPECIAL EDITION DVD IN THE WORKS??

Post by War Chief »

According to another post in the dvd petition forum (http://warriorsmovie.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2289), Paramount is supposedly making a special edition DVD and that Walter Hill is working on it (I hope the petition on the site has helped!!). Details are sketchy but looks like the deleted scenes will be included. Hill also answered a few questions about the film, which can be found in the aforementioned post. I am not sure as to the credibility of the post, but it sounds genuine. I can't wait!

The topic is misleading... it's a definite statement, while all we have so far is an anonymous post in a forum (I could post "I interviewed Uwe Boll and Paul W.S. Anderson today, and they confirmed that they took over directing and producing the Warriors remake from Tony Scott"... that wouldn't necessarily make this true :P)... "Rumoredly in the works" would be more fitting.

That's true, but I'd like to hope that the statement is true. Maybe there were some witnesses to the event (did it actually happen?). I've also added some question marks to the title of the post, as it is questionable.

That's cool. I'm surprised he is working on the DVD though as he's not known as one for doing commentaries, but that would seriously rock.

==================

Walter Hill / Cast Commentary
All deleted Scenes (with commentary)
Trailers / TV Spots / News Features about the movie's influence
A featurette.
Surround Sound.
Game trailer.
Film stills / photo gallery.

SPECIAL EDITION DVD IN THE WORKS??

Interesting if true. I do hope WH's objections regarding the deleted scenes do not prevent their inclusion among bonus materials - and I do hope, too, that the (certainly worthless) opening with the surf music will not be the only excised scene included... and that the "sheriff" and subway scenes which Sol Yurick discusses in the reprint of the book are going to be included as well.

Speaking of Sol Yurick - I should very much like to see at least a lengthy interview with him. Even better, and preferably, a side-by-side commentary with him and Walter Hill. Or - as was the case with e.g. "The Exorcist" or "The Hitcher" - his separate, scene-specific commentary.

A commentary by the principal actors is a necessity, too - and considering that Michael Beck is probably free these days, he would, hopefully, have no objections here (I'm much more interested in Beck's commentary than the inevitable one from Remar). Barry de Vorzon's take - perhaps, once again, scene-specific - would have been nice, too.

And of course... Luther! Yes, David Kelly must be there. In fact, he should be the one to open the commentary - beginning it with "Waaarrrriioooorssss... come out to waaaa-tch! [Clang-clang-clang!]".... ;)

(One thing that I'm afraid *will* be included and that I want to hear nothing about is some promotional material and perhaps even trailers for the Godforsaken remake...)

I would love to see the making of the movie on the bonus material. Also would like to see as much of the cast in the interviews. It would also be nice if they included the 1970's map of the subway. Can't wait for this DVD!

I wouldn't hold my breath for this as in several interviews Sol Yurick has said how much he dislikes most of the film.

His most recent summary, from last year's reprint, is "overall trashy, but beautifully filmed". He's more generous to it than previously - as he should be. He certainly seems benevolent enough to record at least a scene-specific commentary.

He doesn't think that highly of the novel, either; "not my best book by far", he sums it up in the foreword.

I personally won't believe anything until I hear it from Paramount themselves, but now is the time a Special Edition DVD would make a lot of sense, with the videogame coming out and the remake in the works. A SE DVD could be used to promote that stuff bigtime, although I couldn't care less about the remake. Also, I wonder how many other fans of the film feel this way, but I couldn't care less is the author of the book had a commentary either. He trashed the film and I would like to hear from those just involved in the movie making process. A discussion on the differences between the book and the movie can be interesting somewhere on its own if one is into that look, but I prefer just to enjoy the film as its own film, the book really doesn't mean anything to me. That may not be too popular, I don't know, but I just hope that's what any potential commentaries reflect.

For instance, one of my fave movies is Dirty Mary Crazy Larry from 1974, the car chase flick with Peter Fonda. But that actually came from a book as well, called "The Chase." I never had any interest in the book, I just like to enjoy the film on its own.

I agree with Steven. Since the book has really has nothing to do with the movie, how insightful would Yurick's comments be? I would much rather hear from Beck and Remar.

SPECIAL EDITION DVD IN THE WORKS??

I just came from the "Digital Bits" DVD website (thedigitalbits.com) and under their "Rumor Mill" section, an entry dated 10/18/04 states...

"Industry sources have slipped us some interesting information, revealing a few interesting titles that Paramount is considering for re-release as Special Collector's Editions in 2005. This information is extremely tentative, but you might keep your eyes peeled for new SCEs of Face Off, Airplane, McLintock!, Hondo, The Truman Show, Braveheart, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and maybe... just maybe... Titanic, among other titles, by the end of next year. Presumably, those films released previously on DVD in non-anamorphic widescreen will receive new HD anamorphic transfers."

...now The Digital Bits has a great record of their rumors turning into fact, but keep in mind even though The Warriors was not mentioned, that doesn't mean it won't happen, these titles are just the ones that leaked out. It's promising in the way that, if Paramount is indeed planning a bunch of titles for re-release in SE form, there's reason to think The Warriors just may be among them.

And on a related note, this may make some feel I'm going faggot but I love Titanic LOL and always hated their bare-bones DVD release, that's a SE I will buy! Go easy on me now.

A commentary by Yurick and Hill would be the only reason why I might buy a new edition of this film. And they'd have to be good commentaries, not the usual "Oh, I remember this scene. Yeah, it's a nice scene. I like the next scene, too. Now excuse the 10 minutes of silence, I need to go piss and eat something"

Primevals

Agree with list
