Hey Lions---just thought I would let you know-Thursday-December 15 on Turner Classic Movies they are going to show West Side Story!! I think it is 8pm EASTERN
That one was one of the first NY gang movies that made me pay attention.

The cop there was simply outstanding for his small minded view of juvenile delinquents---and the issues of race and social/economic problems is the heart of the movie.

Hey girl....I know, I am on it like a sticky piece of gum on a shoe. One of my fav movie. I like to compare it to Rebel Without A Cause. I think Sal Mineo would of played great in that movie. 8)

Just in case your interested I see Target has this dvd on sale for $7.50.

My parents, grandparents and my fav aunt and uncle went to see this when I was a little guy. They made it a big outing so it has stuck in my mind as a good time. Caught it when it was half over this fall for the first time in forever so I shut it off thinking I need to see it from the start.

This might be a good time to.

It is a great movie, and it shows the loyalty of the gangs, as well as the steriotypes. everything fits, even the music stands out and makes the scene better. I have it on VHS but not dvd yet.

I agree Lions---I think Sal Mineo was an awesome actor, and would have fit in ANY movie that he wanted to be in!!! But he did teen angst like no one else.
Rebel without a Cause was PERFECT for him!! And James Dean of course, goes without saying--but Sal did fantastic in most of the stuff he was in---even the Disney stuff, when he played the Indian boy that loved Commanche, the horse that was the only army survivor of Custer's Last Stand, that the army actually got back anyway.
Sometimes I have trouble believeing Sal was a victim of such awful random violence as a murder/mugging. Senseless, such a waste of wonderful talent.

Another fantastic actor who left us WAY too soon was Nick Adams!! He too would have fit in any of these movies and been fantastic.

Hey Lions,check it out???

You should checkout BlackBoard Jungle!!!!
Image
It just came out on DVD,
Image
Vic Morrow and Sidney Poitier are excellent in the film as well as Glenn Ford,It's definitely worth watching beside just the beginning of the movie you hear "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and the Comets as its theme music.

Ohhh, Blackborad Jungle, I love that movie. I also like "To Sir, With Love" which is similar and stars Mr. Sidney Poitier!

Grease!  Grease is the word.  "...Dazed and confused...what are we doing here"-line from (Grease the song)  Come on,  The T-Birds vs. The Scorpions.  How can you hate the 50's?  There are so many great lines-"The problem isn't the dents...the problem is in this rubber band engine""The problems in your mouth"
"Pinks?"  "Pinks you punk! Pink slips, ownership papers!"

I used songs from West Side Story, and Fiddler on the Roof for my wedding songs!
I love muscials---most ALL of them!! With the possible exception of Guys and Dolls, I can start with South Pacific, and go through parts of Xanadu even!! hehehehehehehe  I have all the soundtracks to most all of them.
I was singing the songs from West Side STory before I even knew there was rock music!!
My sister brought it home from college, and I begged so hard,my dad went out and got me my own copy for Christmas that year. LOL  Fiddler on the Roof was the first VHS tape I actually bought retail.
to each his/her own, SHM--LOL
