Here's an awesome little comedy that might be one of the most overlooked movies of the 80's.

It stars Tom Hanks (before all those Oscar nominations got to his head and he stopped doing comedy), a pre coked out Carrie Fisher, A pre coked out Cory Feldman, and Bruce Dern in an absolutely hilarious role as a nutty paranoid arms dealer.

The premise of the movie has Hank's character Ray Peterson being convinced by his other nieghbors that the new family living next door to him (who none of them have ever seen) is a bunch of devil worshipping, grave robbing nutjobs.

The true funny part of all of this is that many people who live in the suburbs are just like this. Always peeping out their windows, watching what everyone else is doing. I really reccomend this to anyone who's never seen it or even if you saw it a while back, it's worth a re watch.

That a great film. Seen it loads of times.

That dude with the ginger hair and lack of sleep eyes really freaked me out.

How about "Ray, what are you gonna wait for them to kidnap your entire family, cut out their livers and make some sort of satanic pate?"

"Don't try it sonny, I was 18 months in the bush and can snap your neck in a heartbeat."

"I never saw that. I never saw someone drive their garbage down to the curb and beat the hell out of it with a stick before."

"Hey Ray, the thermostat on a home furnace - is that supposed to go to 5,000 degrees?"

I love Corey in that movie!!! When he (as Ricky) won't take his girl to the movies cause setting up the lawn chairs and watching the neighborhood is better--I just about crack up!! And when he is doing the narration of who everyone is and what they will do--I am falling off the couch.
I love that movie too!!!

Between Corey, Tom Hanks and Bruce Dern-(also wonderful in World Gone Wild-as the pot smoking guru!!!)-who has a real comic sense of things---OMG it is great!!!

Nothin good on the tube tonight, so I'm watching it on dvd now

Bruce Dern absolutely rocks in this movie. He completely steals the show from Tom Hanks.

My favorite part in the beginning - after Walter's dog takes a dump on his lawn & he's outside screaming at him through the window:

"That scum barking rat of yours has just taken his last dump on my lawn. I find one more.....just one, I'm gonna catch him & staple his ass shut."

(then he starts to walk away and the dog jumps up on the windowsill & starts barking at him. He turns back & his wife is holding him back)

"By God, I'm gonna do it right now!!!!!!"

Or at the end, after they've just accidently blown up the Klopek's house and nearly got Ray killed, he walks up to Dr. Klopek:

"You've got a lawsuit on your hands, buddy."

Tom Hanks

Not to get off the subject guys, but since we are talking about Tom Hanks, The Burbs was a good movie, but how about Bachelor Party? :D

Here ya go, SHM - these are for you. The funniest part is that before these scenes Art already ate like 3 plates of pancakes.

I just love when he raids their refrigerator right in the middle of the conversation. And the pineapple kills me. Too bad he didn't start eatin' it.

And yes, Art was played by Rick Ducommun, who was in lots of movies: Encino Man, Groundhog Day, Dogmatic, Die Hard, Spaceballs, Scary Movie trilogy.

My favorite part is when the guy tries to kill himself by cutting his wrists with an electric razor. And Tom Hanks tells him "At least your wrists are kissably smooth."

Bachelor Party is an 80s classic. Great Tom Hanks before he became all serious. Wow, haven't heard from Adrian Zmed in a while!

He is BRUCE DERN
and he has been in most everything clear back to westerns on Bonanza, gunsmoke, and movies with John Wayne-The Cowboys--he is the leader of the bad guys. And lots more movies.

I love him in WORLD GONE WILD-(starred with Michael Pare', Cody in Streets of Fire)--an older Sci Fi type flick where he is a reformed fighting guru, who smokes grass, makes magic, and really really does an outstanding job in everything he is in.

WGW and Burbs are two where he let his comic sense of timing loose--he really doesn't do that in very many films, he is mostly a heavy dramatic actor.
Who does BAD really GOOD---but I love him in the crazy ones. outstanding!!

He is also award winning actress, Laura Dern's father.

The Burbs was a total trip! I'm surprised no one has made something similar, a sequel or attempted a remake.
