The Twilight Zone

Well, with the anual New Years Twilight Zone marathon on the Sci Fi channel in full gear, I thought I'd talk a little about this ground breaking show. What are some of your favorites, the ones that still stand out in your memory? Some of mine:

Time Enough At Last - The story of a man Henry Beemis (played by Burgess Meredith) who's only passion in life is reading. Unfortunately for him, the everyday duties of life such as work and family interfere with his time to read. One day during his lunch hour he sneaks into his bank's vault to spend his lunch hour reading, and there is a nuclear war. When he stumbles from the vault and realizes that he is the only living thing left, he is quite despondant & contemplates suicide. But then he stumbles on the ruins of the public library & finds enough books to keep him reading for the rest of his life. Now he has all the time he needs to read - time enough at last. Unfortunately he accidently drops his glasses, shattering them and his dream.

The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street - The story of a typical all American street during a late summers day that is thrown into turmoil after a meteor passes overhead and suddenly they are without power, cars, phones, ect. Is someone among them really a monster from outer space laying the groundwork for an invasion, or are the monsters really buried in all of us, in our own fears and predjudices?

Nightmare At 20,000 Feet - William Shatner stars as a man just released from a sanitarium after suffering a nervous breakdown while on a plane. Now he must fly back home with his wife, and he is the only one who sees a Gremlin on the wing of the plane tampering with the engines. Is he really insane, or will his actions save everyone on board?

I'm with you, Marlboro. I watch the marathon every year and tape the ones I miss over the years (the damn DVDs are so expensive for this series) Too many great ones but a few favorites;

I actually only saw 2 episodes of it. The music is still one of the creepiest intros I have ever heard.

"will the real martian stand up"
is that the one with the bus, or train or something that goes off a bridge, because of a ufo, or something to that effect??
and they end up with an extra person, at the diner.
and it's the old guy with the extra arms, and then the soda jerk is an alien as well, and he's got a 3rd eye on his forehead, under his restauarant hat??

A couple of other real good ones on tonight:

The Invaders - An old woman is seemingly terrorized by tiny aliens in a remote country farm. She manages to kill a couple of them and is in the process of destroying their flying saucer with an ax when we get a glimpse of the side of the ship - U.S.A. Space Program, and hear the lone survivor's distress call not to send any more ships because "there are giants on this planet". Tonight at 5:30pm

Living Doll - The original Chucky!!!!!! Telly Savalas is a mean father who becomes the target of his abused daughter's toy doll. "My name is Talking Tina, and I'm going to kill you". Still gives me the creeps.
Tonight at 9:00pm

To Serve Man - An alien armada lands on Earth and humanity welcomes them with open arms. After all, the aliens carry a mysterious book - "To Serve Man" - and they cordially invite people to accompany them back to their planet. Then we learn that it is a cookbook.

Now were talking. My favorite tv program ever made! Been watching since yesterday morn with only a few stops here and there (and a little sleep).

Saw the first show back in 59 when I was a little guy and my dad and I almost never missed a show. Have seen so many reruns over the years I may hold the record.

What did you think of the new Twilight Zone that was on a couple of years ago hosted by Forest Whitaker?

Particulary the remakes of Monsters are due on Maple Street, Eye of the Beholder, and It's a Good Life.

DUDE..that was one of my favorite episodes of The Twilight Zone,truly a classic as well as all the old episodes,when television was good

Didn't that alien play Lurch on the original Addams Family?

I loved the Twilight Zone, I watched it when I was young, but I can't really remember any episodes really, just things here and there.

Actually it was a young Richard Kiel who played the alien. He is best known as Jaws from the James Bond movies The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker. The big guy with the steel teeth!!

********************SPOILERS BELOW**************************

Nightmare At 20,000 Feet - William Shatner keeps causing disturbances on the plane, and when he finally realizes no one will believe him, he pretends to admit that he was most likely imagining it. He notices a policeman who is transporting a prisoner asleep in the back row, so he makes like he's gonno go to the bathroom and steals the cops gun. Then he shoots out the window and leans out towards the wing and shoots the gremlin. Everyone is trying to pull him back in, and since he's half in and half out no one can see the gremlin. They finally get him in and subdue him. In the end, the plane is on the ground and he's strapped on a stretcher, and they're all like, don't worry we'll get you the help you need, and then one of the maintenance guys notices that the wing and engine are all chewed up just like William Shatner had said.

Living Doll - Telly Savalas trips over the doll and falls down the stairs and breaks his neck. We're left to think did the doll really come to life and move there on it's own, or did the little girl put it there to get rid of her abusive stepfather?

They sound deadly!! Man, I wish we got the Twilight Zone. What channel are you talking about when you said 'Tonight at 9:00'? Like, I mean the station.
