I heard this movie mentioned in the Warriors' extras. It's a gang movie like the Warriors and it was produced the same year. Has anyone seen it? Is it good or even worth renting? I'd never heard of it up until now...

Yes it is worth seeing/renting.
It is a gang film, but NOT like the Warriors.
It is more true to life, the gangs are all racially segregated, going to school.
The Wanderers are Italian, and their biggest two rivals are a skin head gang led by a huge guy called Terror, and an all black gang called the Del Bombers.
It explores life in the neighborhoods, and builds up to a rumble that the adults turn into a football game, so they can bet on the boys- -that leads into a riot with a very INNER city group of misfits--they call the "ducky boys"
Some of it is pretty real---some is sorta steriotypical---but it is worth a look.

This is a good gang movie also. These gang's actually existed back in the 50's and 60's. There was a gang called the Fordham Baldies and also one of the guy's who played a Baldie in the Wanderers also played a Turnbull A.C in the Warriors.

I've read the book, but I'v never seen the film. Can anyone who's read and seen both tell me how much the book and the film parallel eachother? If the film is as sexually graphic as the book then I don't think I want to see it Unless it has that Duckie Boys brawl that the book had. 8)

The book is much different than the film. Not as much as the Warriors book vs. movie, but a lot different none the less.

In the book, Despie is a girl that Buddy meets & gets pregnant, not Richie's girlfriend. Buddy's character is also much different in the book. The movie Buddy was based on a different character from the book.

Perry isn't a "new guy" in the book. He's been there all along.

Turkey is a very minor character in the book.

And yes, the Ducky Boy brawl is in the movie, though I think it came out better in the book.

The sex is way more explicit and there is much more of it in the book.

If anything, I thought the book was more true to how a gang of high school friends in the 60's would behave than the movie.

Ha, I never knew that. I'll look out for it next time! I think it's due a viewing soon as it has been a while.

Having said that I have been sent Domino and The Transporter (I have seen no. 2) from Screenselect DVD rental to watch.
